I'm as much for Ridley as the next person - probably even more so, all things considered - but I think we're being a bit hard on ol' Sakurai.

He did give everything he had for this game and pushed himself to the brink of physical annihilation to see it comes to glorious fruition.

There are very, very few directors who would go to such extremes for the sake of pleasing the fans.

I'm also totally positive that his reasoning was PR speak and that he's just too proud and stubborn to admit that, behind the PR speak, he tried and wasn't satisfied with the results. It's that attention to detail and commitment to quality that I admire about him, and even if I do disagree with a hell of a lot of his sentiments, I still think he made a top-notch game with some truly wonderful characters.
None of that changes the fact that we waited years to pay top dollar for a game that didn't give us the content we expected.

It's not as if the disappointment magically disappears and the game becomes more fun because he tried his hardest and endured physical obstacles for the game.

The game is very fun but the frustration stems from how much potential this game had that it didn't fulfill.

That is totally and utterly subjective, though. I can quite faithfully say that this game delivered exactly what I wanted and more.

We could've gotten far more DKC content if it wasn't for Sakurai's priorities. I'd trade all the Miis and PacMan for a cloney Dixie Kong alone at this point. The saving grace of this game is that it at least announced Mewtwo (the most requested character for this game, period) as DLC quickly. And that's also reason am getting Smash, or at least am saving up to get it now.

The Jungle Hijnyx stage is literally the most effort Sakurai put in DKC content for this game. Kremling Kritters in Smash Run is nice, and really appriciated, but I can speak for all here we all expected MUCH MORE from the Kremling's return.

As of now, I have little hopes for King K.Rool to become a DLC character down the line. Unless Retro is already working at Returns 3 with Kremlings as we speak, and Sakurai is planning on releasing a newly 'fresh' version of the King in Smash. A similar situation of what the Isaac supporters are expecting (new Golden Sun game = moment when Isaac gets his DLC announced).

Personally, I think Sakurai is just gonna give us Mewtwo, and then a lot of other questionable popular characters with the peaks being Wolf, Lucas and maybe Ice Climbers. Hopefully also Dixie Kong (right now I'll take her in any form, Diddy's moveset + unique Up B? Hand me that ****!) and Impa (who I will also take as a Sheik clone, or hybrid Zelda / Sheik about as unique as Swordfighter Mii). More is not what am really expecting. Sakurai has always had his way of leaving out a lot of stuff people ask for

More Donkey Kongtent would be nice, yeah~

I personally love surprises, though. It's why Smash has yet to disappoint me. Never thought I'd actually be a fan of R.O.B. and Shulk until they showed up and I just swallowed my pride and played 'em all the same.

Am just gonna call K.Rool the 'Diddy of this time'. Referring to the fact Diddy should've made it into Melee, and that that would've made Melee that much better for me.

He was probably planned due to having no throphy at all, but Sakurai never really said anything about it. The Rare buy-out could be a huge part of the problem. But if it was, why was Rare so heavily creditted, and how did K.Rool and Dixie got throphies, and Klap Traps where on Jungle Japes, as well as the DK Rap being one of the tracks in the game. So no Diddy in Melee still baffles me in every way.

AFAIK the only character we know was "scrapped" for Melee was Dedede who was cut in favour of the clones.
Not true.
If we're going by cednym's words about the old Famitsu articles, Dedede was planned as backup in case Intelligent Systems didn't give the ok to use Marth. It was stated that the time it took to make the clones was the same as it would have been to make Dedede, but by the time the clones were decided on, Dedede was already long out of the rotation (since Marth was given the greenlight).

No offence but you had pretty low expectations then.

A lot of people don't criticise the game because of what they see, but it's what you don't see that's the frustrating part. The game is great but that's because it's basically just Brawl 2.0. What people love about it is just what was in the previous game. You could have just patchhed Brawl 3 or 4 times and you would have the core of Smash 4.

I think the 3DS version is largely to blame for why the Wii U version didn't come close to fulfilling it's potential. If there was no 3DS version to develop we probably could have got 40+ new genuinely HD stages. Instead we got a list of 46 which mostly includes past and non-HD stages. Seriously there's probably less than 10 actual HD quality stages that Brawl couldn't have processed.

The majority of Smashers only play 1 player to unlock stuff, but the only 1 player mode that everyone cared about a lot is the main adventure mode. People were expecting a massive adventure like SSE (even though SSE sucked) with amazing HD cutscenes. Instead Sakurai said he didn't want to do cutscenes because of people loading them onto Youtube. Instead we get random modes like Smash Tour and the Orders which most people will only play to unlock stuff, not because they find them fun. At the end of the day he still didn't give the fans what he wanted.

At this point now there are probably 10 or so characters in the roster that nobody wanted. Instead of those 10 we could have had characters that people actually wanted like K. Rool. But for some reason Sakurai thinks that surprising the fans with gimmicks will please the fans more than giving them what they actually wanted.

Of course there's also all the bias, but there's no need to go over that again.

Complaining is what makes the series improve. Complaining is what got tripping removed, got MK nerfed, and made the game more balanced in general. Frustration with this game rightfully goes beyond the lack of DK rep and the general bias in the game. It's just not a truly HD level game.

Yeah, wow, look at all of those expectations that weren't met!

I see where you're coming from and I agree with the core of your argument, but you're quite honestly playing the Strawman card pretty strongly here. If you and others are dissatisfied with the game, fine by me! I will quite happily champion your cause and say that this game needs more content because that's what you want. That's giving your input. That's democracy, and you're right, making a stir about it is what gets things changed. I appreciate that.

What I would ask of you, though, is that you calm down with the apologies. I'm not belittling your opinions or telling you to abandon your cause, I'm just telling you that I personally am satisfied with this game and am essentially content with what we have right now. More would be welcome, sure, but I will accept what we have for the time being. Just be patient and make sure your voice is heard - things will get better in time, I believe that they will.

@ BKupa666 BKupa666 , apologies for derailing the thread like that. I take full responsibility for what's happened over here.

While there's plenty to be disappointed about, I always say that we can't forget the stuff that's to be celebrated. We got Mega Man and now Mewtwo, two of the most requested fighters, and even the west got thrown a bone with the always fantastic Little Mac.

Also, having now obtained a Wii U and Smash Bros, I'm just gonna say that Smash Tour is literally no fun. Hoping to get my mitts on Tropical Freeze in the near future.

I had no idea what was going on when I played Tour to unlock Pacland. I haven't heard a single person say they enjoy Tour. And yeah for all the complaints we have there were some amazing new additions this game. For example I thought Jr. getting a mecha and getting Koopaling alts was way too good to be true. That's one of those things that fans think of that'd be insanely cool but you'd never expect Nintendo to be that smart to do. The movesets of the unique newcomers are really creative and interactive. You can tell Namco had a big influence on the movesets because the movesets of the vets are way more dull in comparison. There's also things like custom moves and Mii fighters which were excellent additions too. Omega stages is another cool feature too.

As for Tropical Freeze, it's an amazing game but I can't bring myself to finish it because I find the controls too slippery. I find the Kong's movement to loose and akward, they always seem to slip off edges. I think it's compounded for me because I came straight from playing the SNES DKCs, which have very tight and responsive controls. TF's music is amazing too, but some of it is a bit on the cheerful Mario side of the spectrum. DK's music is famous for it's serious tone and it's ambiance. I don't understand why they go towards the cheerful trumphet style music, when all the franchises revered for their music don't use that style.

Smash Tour is a waste of disc space as far as I'm concerned. It's a total cluster**** that somehow manages to be worse than Mario Party, and that is one hell of an accomplishment.

I'll admit I hate leaks, but from what everyone says and the gameplay I've seen, I think I would have vastly preferred Tower of Smash to Smash Tour.

No worries @ Wintropy Wintropy . College finals are currently occupying 150-200% of my mental energy at the moment, but I'll be back and continuing to work on this thread's OP by this upcoming week's end.

I don't like Master Fortress. 8.0 and beyond - Uncanny Valley. It was right after the third wave and I had to go into the literal bowels of that monstrosity that I thought - "Gee, if we got King K. as DLC, are we going to subject him to this torture?" Probably another reason why I play Classic mode at Intensity 7.9 at max.

Also @ LIQUID12A LIQUID12A , I do agree that what made Tower of Smash an interesting point for me was that it sounded like a mode that would have existed. Also on another point about that fake leak - Does Dixie Kong's chances still hold strong even if we know she has a Smash Tour trophy?

Well guys, kind of a nostalgia trip for me this afternoon. I went home after being at college this weekend and saw this.

This really holds a special place in my heart, as this was my little trapper keeper in elementary school. I stored everything in this guy. DK64 was one of the games they always had at my daycare when I would go. Just thought you guys would like to see this.

The best thing is that i'm getting DK64 this Khristmas. That's the game where K. Rool mistreats his minions right?

Off topic: Every time I find a little mac main and whenever I hit him at 54% or more i hear his grunts. Funny thing is, his grunting makes me laugh a little and i save a replay of it.

Sorry if it's disturbing to hear though. Now back to K. Rool's topic.

That is correct, I think you'll enjoy it too, it's one of the underated game classics that it seems most people tend to overlook.
