Well,I'm a pretty good meta-knight user, and tomorrow I'm gonna go to a 80 player tournament. I'm gonna play single and double (with a falco) and I need some helps:
I've already played with some of the best players who are gonna play tomorrow, and among them, I've got some troubles with some stuffs:

There will be a very good lucas player, I've got no problems at all fighting him on the field, but once he trowed me out of the stage, I can't do anything because of his pk thunder: mk's slow and short jumps allows that upB to touch me every time I try to dodge it >< I've thought about using the cape as a recovery to dodge it, but I haven't tried yet (I've trained well to use it as a recovery, just in case^^).

There will be a falco player too (who is my partner), and I've got troubles with 2 things: his chaingrab (of course -_-)==> when he chaingrabs me at 0%, he can deal me around 50 damages with ending his 40% grab with a down air. Is there a way to DI it and reduce the amount of damages?
==> when I try to attack him/ grab him while dashing, he answers with his shine, and I can't do a lot of things about it because of the fact that if I run and shield (in order to faint him), he can quite easily shieldgrab me -_-.

There will be a good kirby player, and I don't know much about the matchup, the stuffs that bothers me are that: his back air got a veeeery long range, and his chaingrab combo lead me to 41% if grabbed at 0% (he can't cg me if I'm not 0% though).

there will be a very good peach player, here is a link to one of his vids, so that you can tell me If he makes some repeated mistakes (though, he is one of the best players in my country, and is the favorite of the tourney, winner of the last tournament)
http://fr.youtube.com/watch?v=lrZaaAaJ8Ec&feature=related
(you can see other vids with him in "similar")

and that's the matchups and stuffs I lack the more informations of.

I need some advices for our doubles too: is there any stuffs to do in double (sbr rules, 4 stocks ff on) with a falco and a mk?

and I need some advices too from the pro or almost players here, about stuffs like "how do you handle stress in a tournament, what do you eat... stuffs like that lol.

Thanks for reading, please forgive me if my english is poor, I'm french (for those who wondered, we're not the bests at brawl though^^) and please answer me as fast as you can: the tourney is in about 12 hours ><

For the Falco, you need to space your approaches so that when he shines it'll miss you. Then you should be able to attack him during the lag. As far as the CG goes, you can jump out of it at 36%, but it's inescapable before then. For more info, we have a thread about this matchup recently. I doubt it's still on the first page but it shouldn't be too hard to find.

For Lucas, try using the Tornado or the Drill Rush to recover if you're having trouble against PK Thunder. Dimensional Cape works I guess but it's kinda slow and doesn't go as far as the other two. Alternatively you could Shuttle Loop into a glide and outspeed it. Generally I'd have to recommend getting him off the stage first since he's not terribly hard to gimp.

As far as doubles tactics goes, you and your partner could try the bait & switch thing where your partner stays backs and camps with SHDL while you go in and try to keep the other team away from him while dealing damage to them. The only concerns with this are whether the stage you're on would allow such a strategy, whether you could pull it off without the lasers hitting you, and whether you could do it while only taking a modest amount of damage.

That's all I can help you on. I don't know a lot about Peach in Brawl but it does look like that guy definitely knows what he's doing. As far as Kirby goes, I didn't even know he had a chaingrab on us, so that should give you an idea of how much I know about that matchup.

And your English is fine by the way. I've actually seen posts with worse English by Americans on here.

lol, thanks for my english, I try to improve it as much as I can^^
and about what you said about lucas, I sadly can only say that you are wrong all the way: that freakin' thunder counters all mk's b:the shuttle loop, tornado, drill rush.. all of these can be countered ><
the only one I haven't tried is the cape, I think it could work, but not all the time -_-
after reading few posts in the tactical section, I've thought about attacking the thunder with a fair or a dair... it could work, but it would take some good reflexes I don't have yet, but, who knows... maybe I'm gonna be godlike tomorrow and stop every single thunder with my aerials^^

and about kirby cg==> it's more an unescapable combo with grabs than a cg: if I remenber well, it's: front grab, up smash, front grab, fsmash.
I think that I can di it by trying to the opposite side of kirby, but if someone could confirm it, that would be cool.

Okay, first off, the Kirby CG, also known as the Gonzo combo, is Fthrow>UAir>Fthrow>Uair>Fsmash. However, you can DI away after the first Uair, so most Kirby players will instead do FThrow>Uair>Reverse Utilt>Bair, and I'm not sure if you can DI out of that, but you might as well try.
Also, Kirby will probably hit you with Dthrow>Utilt>Utilt>Usmash (Give or take a Utilt, and maybe throwing a Dair>throw in there, though that's tougher on MK). If he does, DI out, as Kirby's Utilt comes out insanely fast and has high priority. Due to the hitstun, you're bound to be hit a few times before you can Dair him, and if he's smart, he'll have Usmashed you by then, so DI out, no matter how tempting that Dair is.

For Lucas, to my knowledge, you can't stop it. You're best bet is to outmaneuver it. You have a LOT of jumps, so try Air dodging it, perhaps fast fall the air dodge to make sure your through all the way.
Sure, the cape can work, but it takes a LOT of practice making it work, since the invincibility period is very short and the distance isn't so great. Personally, I use the cape when I'm up in the air and aim it at the ground to land and confuse the opponent (No one expects you to do the cape, especially without the attack (even though the attack is practically begging for punishment)).
You could also try to start a glide around it, since you glide faster than the thing flies.

As for the Peach, meh, you shouldn't have too much trouble. When she goes into her hover, Fair and Bair outrange all of her moves except maybe the Fair, but that one's so slow it shouldn't matter, and the tornado should destroy her at that height. However, she might start using the toad to counter, so make sure to mix it up. Use your aerials both for offense and defense.
You can also try to SL/Glide attack her out of the hover.
Try to shield the turnips if she uses those.
When she's offstage, follow and gimp. MK is the best gimper in the game, use that to your advantage.
If you get caught in the Dair>Dair>Dair like that Wolf did, then DI out of it (like you can DI up above her or behind her) then use an aerial.
On the ground, I believe your Dtilt outranges all her moves, and Ftilt is amazing regardless.
Your Dsmash is one of your best killing moves: Use it.
Finally, if all else fails, you can always plank her.

Finally, where in France is this competition, and where can one get info about tournaments in France? My bro lives in Marseille and can't seem to find any.

(PS: If you need it, I can translate this into French, though I don't really know all the technical terms/acronyms in French, but you'll have to warn me within the next hour.)

I did understood everything, thanks^^ but the tournament was in Paris, so it's pretty far from Marseille, and your bro can't do much about it.
The peach actually won the tournament (this guy is our local m2k, he wins almost all of the tournaments he enters>< even if I think that he would actually loose against the us top players, he's awesome with his mindgame^^), I was like 20th over 85 people, and my teammate made us loose the tournament at the beggining -_-
I won like three games in the winner's bracket, then lost against an excellent snake (even with taking DDD in final destination as a counter, he won by short><), and then I played badly against a lucario in the loosers bracket (suicide when leading, like 20% for me and 70 for him, then I lost because I lacked of concentration).

And even now, while the tournament is over, if you have some advices about stress and stuffs like that, I would gladly hear them^^.

well, you could be right... but my teammate wasn't my usual one (he couldn't come), and our team was WAY worse than when I play with my usual teammate.
and we lost a game in which I played god-like, but my teammate had been cg+spike 2 times... 2 easy kills at the beginning (and I saved him from another one later).
In this game, I dealt twice the damages I took, made all the kills but one, and only lost two lives: my teammate stealed me one life (I will never blame him for that though, it's pretty easier to play 2v2 than 2v1^^) in the end, I lost my second life and it was a falco ditto, almost the same percents, but my teammate didn't know much about falco ditto (that's why he got killed so easily)... and got screwed by far -_-
I was pretty infuriated after this game, because I didn't play that well for ages in this one, and we lost though.

Hmmm... I can't personally give much tournament advice since, well, I've never been to one yet (Haven't had a chance yet >.< ). I guess the only thing I could suggest here is to have fun. My friend (who I rarely get to play since he lives out of town) has an excellent Diddy, and I notice that when I start playing without enjoying myself, sacrificing fun in a desperate gamble to win, that I start doing really ******** things out of frustration and losing, and it's only when I start relaxing, having fun with it, that I really am able to play well.

As for the teammate thing, don't go too hard on him. Sure, it sounds like you played much better, but you know, having been on both sides of that situation, he was probably as mad with himself as you were, so best to give him advice and hope he does better next time (and practice with him more!).

As for the Lucario match, that's really too bad. I know how that goes though... I tend to do that when I'm a stock up (I'll own the first stock then accidentally miss the ledge with FC, walk into a spike or something like that).

Looks like you didn't do half bad though. Good luck for the next one! (By the way, if it isn't too much trouble, could you message me when the next one occurs? I'm in Paris every now and again, and usually when I'm there I'm bored out of my mind, so a tourny would be nice if it happens at the right time.)

Bump^^.
(I think it's better to bump this thread than create another, since I've got another tournament on sunday^^)

==> The tournament I'm attending is a double tournament (64 players, 32 teams...)
The rules are: random stages, no cp (yeah, that's stupid).
The stages are: delfino, FD, battlefield, yoshi's island, smashville.
4 stock, team attack on, 7 minutes.

The organisers forgot to ban IDC (looool), So, if you've got an idea on how I could use it in double, please say it (but I'm pretty lame at doing this, so don't expect I can hold it more than 5 seconds... with luck ><)

==> I am going to play with my usual teammate this time, a wolf player.
(if anyone has an idea on how we should play together, tell me, we have got a lot of experience playing together, but maybe we didn't thought about what you're going to say).

And I need advices about how to fight the pro teams that are going to come:
-The peach I told you about before, the best french player (he mains marth too), will team with a mk/kirby (he mostly plays kirby), so basically, their team will be peach/kirby...
-A good falco (Blad01, you might know him if you use to look at the falco board) who seconds donkey kong, will team with a snake/mk (mostly snake, according to what I know about him, but he seems to have a really good mk).
-A G&W+ZSS team (the one that annoys me the most... because of that:
http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=qGBKBrZ1Cdk
The G&W can kill me at 0% with a dthrow... so I'd better not miss my tech...

-A marth/ROB (The n°2 french player, he plays the two of them greatly, he managed to deal 6-0 to the peach/marth player last time they fought in a tourney with his "new" (at that time, like one month ago), but I've played him for 4 hours a week ago, and I consistently beat his ROB (like 2/3 of the time), but when I fight his marth, it's more like 50:50... So he should focus on marth while facing us)
Will play with the french n°1 samus...
I almost don't know anything about samus, so, if anyone could tell me how to deal with her, please do.

And maybe (the best french brawl team, so far) A snake+DDD team.

So, I know I'm asking for a lot of informations, but if anyone could give me any advices on "how to fight them in doubles", I'll be glad to read your posts^^.

Btw, fromundaman: another big tournament (78 persons suscribed so far) is going to happen in two weeks, so, if you are in france at this time you can come (mp me if you want some details about it)...

Hmmm... I don't really know how to help you for this one. I don't know Wolf well enough to know how to team with him. Pretty much the extent of my wolf knowledge is how to **** him as Kirby... Speaking of which, I think that Kirby might have been the one I critiqued a month or two back

G&W can't kill at 0%... He can do that chainthrow, but if you practice it, you should be able to tech it fine.

The MK/Kirby team can be pretty bad, since both can gimp, and Kirby kills well while MK racks up damage. Other than that, I don't really know how to fight these teams... sorry.

Also, I probably won't be in France for a while now.

lolol that peach player wsant so great. the french need to step it up

im joking. there are some obvious flaws with that peach vs wolf i saw like he used all 4 smashes in a row upsmash to fsmash to downsmash and another fsmash. if your using mk you shouldnt have trouble with this. practice with some good friends and watch vids of our top players.

advice on the tournament? lol im going to my third tournament ever in about 2 hours. im going to eat a good hardy breakfast and maybe listen to some music. concentrate and only think about brawl. once in a match im going to review the matchup and focus on a plan then just play with what i know and do waht works and take out what doest

Criztakidd... Please take a look at the date of the video before talking... It's very old, he plays WAY much better now.

Then, we placed 5th in today's tournament, loosing 2-1 in the winners semi-final against a double mk team (lol), we almost won... if only I didn't suicide^^
Then, we lost 2-1 against the bucket team, in loosers semi ( we were very close to the win, again :s)
But, after this tournament (which was the "first one" for my partnair), we could analyse why we lost, and we're going to improve a lot.)

And, from what I've seen, there was no team far above the others (talking about french top players, not about the other scrubs, of course).

But what we are very proud of, my friend and I, is that we were the one who made the favorite team loose^^.
==> the team who use to place first, the snake+DDD wasn't here, then the favorite team was the one with the n°1 french player.
His teammate switched his main: he now plays pit, and everyone in the tournament, even the organisers were like: ok guys, see you in grand final...
And, just before we played them, someone said that from the quarter, we had to record the games, but the only wii which had the "infinite" replay code actived was already used... So, we (the other team and us) asked the TO what to do.
He said to leon (the french "n°1" player)==> well, we don't care since you'll be recorded in the grand final...
Then, we won a match, they won the second, and for the last match, in the end, my team mate got killed, I was against the two of them, I killed the pit who was at 100% (god bless the fresh dsmashs^^)
I was at 70%, Leon, the peach, was at 90%, and I won 130 to 170-180%...
There were like==> aaaah, it's because you spammed, you spammers, you play mk, looser^^ (well, the other players who seen the match sayed==> wow, totally impressed by your mk, these guys are jerks, liers etc... We were like... LOL, we won, you LOOSERs ;p.
Then, they were quite hangry, and they loosed their next game (and I think that they would have won if playing seriously, but, whatever...).

(yeah, that's ridiculous to post this, but I had to... for us, it's like if a random team defeated azen+m2k in team ><.)

But, if you wondered, the mk+wolf team works great: a friend of us, who is of a lower level (I win like every game against him, by one or two stock...) had to team with a wolf, and he decided to play mk with the wolf (he even took the same color as we usually do, green^^), and he placed two or second (we went away as soon as we know our rank, but he was in the winners final (well, he clearly was in the easy side of the tournament (I don't know how to say it in english, but he was not in the side where the most dangerous teams were, but even with this, they managed to defeat the bucket team that annoys me, so they did well in team^^).

as a conclusion, a mk+wolf team works wonder (even if there are a few teams who could annoy us).
