It's time to grow up Mango

Let me save you the next year of your life: the game is not going to become any more fun to you until you look for something outside of yourself.

Someone told me that ever since my post on how to improve socal, socal as a whole has really stepped up since then. I don't really think I did all that much but let's say I did. If one thread was able to do that, what could you do? What impact on smash could you have?

I know you feel like you're the best melee player ever and all that, and sure, you probably are. But for how long? Will you be remembered as such? I doubt it. They are going to be playing Melee 20 years from now! Someone will be better.

So if you really want a legacy, Mango, it's going to be created outside of an individual match, set or tournament. You create it by changing the metagame.

You have the power to touch a whole community. You really want competition, Mango? You have to create it! You have to help people improve and teach them how to learn and then, one day, you will have more competition than you ever dreamed. You can create a whole region of Mangos!

Don't you see, Mango? Humans are pack animals! They all follow the alpha male! And by default you have become the alpha male. So like it or not people take after you. You have that responsibility whether you shun it or not. So you can continue acting like an immature brat, breeding a community of immature brats, or you can set a good example of everything you want out of this community. That's what I'm doing and will continue to do, with or without you.

But I'd much rather have it be with you.

Right now, Mango is pretty much(still) in Rocky 3 status! He is the guy on top that nobody can touch! The only way he's gonna take things seriously again is if someone can beat him for sure! Like Rocky, he well then take a second look at himself and take things seriously to show that he's still the s#!+! Hbox, on a good day, might be able to pull it off! I think the Armada hype has died down quite a bit as well! The only hype/people left are the Mexico twins! WHEN they come up here, things are gonna get crazy!

Mango definitely could help people get better. I rarely see him make posts about melee and what he knows about it which is pretty disappointing. I would love to see him inspire people and show us how to be as good as him!

That's very true, but he doesn't seem to have a passion for helping people like Adam does. It's fine if he doesn't want to spend his time doing that but it would really benefit the community.

I agree with this thread whole-heartedly. Mango's a little kid with amazing talent that doesn't have his head on straight. He has too much talent for his current level of maturity. The sad truth is that people are right, he has the right to be with that way, and he can do whatever he wants.

I think if people want Mango to change though, then they should stop sucking his d!ck so god**** much. Give him **** and make him feel bad for not helping Socal get better, because if not then he'll just keep his "I'll do whatever the **** I want" attitude without feeling any guilt or remorse, which reinforces that behavior (child psychology 101). If you really feel like he is obligated to help Socal get better, then pressure him and make him feel that obligation.

It's ok. The smash community will continue with or without mango. People's overall skill level will keep growing until mango is surpassed.

It happened when ken quit and it'll happen again. The metagame waits for no man.

In fact I think mango's counting on that.

Though knowing mango he'll just john when he loses, if he hasn't become a full-on alcoholic by then.

It's like this:

You're not going to "help" somebody by calling them out on smashboards. If you have real desire to help a person get past their issues, there's no reason to make it public in such a manner. If helping a person is your true goal, this is not the way you should go about it.

Don't hide your blatant attention whoring behind the guise of benevolent intentions.

socal's and maybe more region's "problem" is that they don't ask for help/ have a deep commitment to get better. others aren't humble enough to think that they know nothing and instead get cocky, **** n00bs, but will hit a wall and NEVER get better with their mindset

it's not really mangos fault as much as it is people sucking and not asking better players for advice. or they ask some dumass questions

i refuse to believe people can't become at least rank 20 (exception of 2 people).

also despite him being the best, bad idea to only ask mango for help. its important to get different perspectives

i find most of the dunker crew really helpful to answer my questions about character specific moments. Lovage is really informative about priorities and openings.
