The Ice Climbers should return in the damn Wii U version, there is no excuse besides from Sakurai's delusional image that both versions need to have the same roster. There is no cross play between the two, so what is the point? All he's doing is letting the limitations of 3DS punish the Wii U for no justified reason.
We don't know that for a fact, though. It's not likely, to be sure, but please be careful about speaking in absolutes before we have absolutely verified data to that end.
Also, as I've already said: fair is fair. It isn't nice or fun, but it's fair.
Lucas was a semi-clone, his Standard Moveset was completely different from Ness. And Roy is a lot more distinguishable from Marth than Lucina is. The thing with the clones is Melee is that they would have the same animations and look the same visually, but they actually behaved very differently. Resulting in very different metagames. Roy was very different from Marth, and even Pichu was in a whole another league than Pikachu. They are much more unique additions than
this.
Ugh, i get sick just looking at it.
Roy isn't a very popular character outside of Smash, though. He's a great character, don't get me wrong, but his fanbase exists almost entirely within the Smash community. Fire Emblem fans don't care for him at all and, at least from my experience, most of them are much, much happier to see Lucina. I'm sorry, but it makes no sense whatsoever to bring him back based solely on the fact that he's a veteran. If you want to have another Marth clone, there are a myriad of other choices, including Leif, who was originally going to be Sakurai's choice, and possibly even Chrom, if you really, really want him in the game.
Basically, Roy was only chosen because he was intended to promote the new game, and his fighting style is almost entirely unique to Melee. He does wield the Blazing Sword in his own game, but he's generally regarded by fans as a poor Lord with uninspiring stat choices. Lucina is at least extremely important to her game and relevant to the series, as she bridges the gap between the classic games and the new games by masquerading as the Hero-King Marth whilst also bearing her own unique mannerisms and attributes that other characters, not least among them Marth, do not actually possess.
Lucina also plays entirely different to Marth in terms of playstyle. The lack of the tipper and the shorter character model makes an enormous difference and opens great amounts of potential for interested players.
I wanted to believe in Sakurai, he gave us
words of faith. Only to later crush it with his feet, he had earned my trust and he shattered it to pieces.
This statement from him left a scar in my heart.
After all this, i don't know if i ever want to invest in Sakurai's product.
Ever again. (I'm buying Smash Wii U used)
I'm not going to begrudge you your opinions, of course, but if you're really that upset by the whole thing, I would advise you to step away from the games anyway - for your own sake, if nothing else. Take some time off and just relax. Sakurai isn't being deliberately malicious, and if you think he is, then I'm sorry, but I can't bring myself to agree with you. He's just a guy doing his job as best he can - the fact that he can't please everybody and has taken on the responsibilities of series director all the same is something he's just had to accept, and I think we'd all sleep better at night and be more open-minded and civil about it if we did the same, too.
Mewtwo is by far one of the most requested characters, he's up there in the same league as Ridley.
This nonsense is the real reason we didn't see Mewtwo come back. Which shouldn't even be an excuse, because he can easily just remake Mewtwo from scratch. When Project M clearly was able to do it, Sakurai can't?
I'm 99.9% sure he's bluffing to cover his tracks and throw people off of the scent. I really, really don't think he's done with Mewtwo yet.
