"Input Assist mode" should be called "HDTV mode"

Input assist will help you with some things, but it's definitely not an all encompassing HDTV mode. All input assist does it buffer the input until the next available frame. It only works when you're in idle movement. It won't allow you to LCancel if your character already hit the floor, or powershield any faster. It'll actually work against muscle memory.

I figured it would work against you if you ever left that set up, but wouldn't it make it a little more fluid if all you played on were HDTVs?

during upconversion we can lag about 50ms. 3 frames is about 50ms. Input Assist is 3 frames... I think the math works out. Also I just want to call it something other than input-assist so my friends that play brawl can't find it and turn it on.

For some things yes. For example, on a TV that would lag 2 frames, if I want to dash attack RIGHT when I land, then a 2+ frame input assist will help me. Let's say I play push Left+A when I assume my character hits the floor, as I would hit it on a CRT. Then yes, the input mode will input the dash attack for me on the next available frame. The problem exists with such things like accidentally doing an aerial attack offstage as Ike (in Brawl) and falling to your death because the attack is very laggy.

As I said before, it won't help you powershield that Falco laser. You'll still be 2 frames too late and won't be able to powershield it, regardless of input assist.

I've never heard of upconversion lag being 50ms. That's kinda ridiculous, but some sets do lag that high with 480i signals and crappy post processing. Input assist is basically "input buffer", but that would be even more confusing.

I see. Well, that clears that up, thanks for your help ShortFuse.
