I want a gaming PC. And my friend whipped this together. He said it's good but I wanted to get other peoples opinions on it.

How long will it last me and can I play high-end games? Those are the two main questions.

Thanks for any help.

Yes, that computer will play pretty much anything.

But I wouldn't spend so much on a case. That thing's like $150-200. You can get a great case for around $40. It's a part that doesn't really matter, anyway.

Also, what's with the separate Solid State hard drive AND a normal hard disk? SSD's are super awesome... if you're doing operations that are disk bound. And gaming just isn't. CPU and Video card are about the only thing that matters with games today. And both of those are great for you.

I wouldn't bother with the SSD, just use the hard disk on your list. A Blu-ray player is also totally unnecessary. The only reason you would possibly want that is if you already have a large collection of Blu-ray movies and REALLY want to watch it on your computer as opposed to your TV. Otherwise you're wasting your money there.

To add to your, well, case, AltF4, I picked up a really nice CoolerMaster Mystique for free when it was on sale with open box discount with a 20$ rebate. :b:

16gig of ram is ultra overkill, dont go past 8 if you only intend on playing games.

1000w is similarly overkill. a good brand 600W system will power that.

Tbh, I spent a good bit on my case, the corsair 600T, and the thing is amazing. Made building the computer much easier as well.

True, but if you're willing to splurge, I recommend 16 gigs. A little bit of overkill on a custom built PC is nothing to be shunned. You need all the future proofing you can get.

except youre future proofing by quantity, not quality. by the time any game needs 8 gig of ram to run 100% smoothly, the speeds will probably be considerably higher than what you can buy today. Sure ram is cheap, but it will be a long time until that much ram is needed, I'd wager the entire computer would need an upgrade to play new games properly before 16 would be needed.

I don't recommend ridiculous overkill, but a bit of planning for the future is always nice, cause you never know what you're financial situation will be when you need to upgrade.

For example...like 11 or 12 years ago when I built my computer, I opted to only get 1 gig instead of 2 gig to save a bit of money. Back then, even 1 gig was overkill, but now here I am years later, a broke unemployed student realizing how much better off I would be if I had just dished out a bit of extra cash when I had it and gotten 2 gigs.

To be fair RAM is super cheap nowadays.

I got 8GBS for $50 on a NewEgg sale.

See? Like I said dirt cheap. Although 16GB is extreme even for future proofing, unless your running a ton of virtual machines for some reason. 4GB is all thats really needed atm and has been for a while. I got 8gb in mine.

Fun Fact: My cousin works in the robotics division at Carnegie Mellon University. His "laptop"(more like a mobile desktop tbh), has four processors and 32GB of RAM in it. And it uses all of it.

Hahaha, Frotaz. If they have $0 they shouldn't be looking into buying computer parts

Those are good, and powerful. :)

They will take up a lot of power and run hot, though.
