Ash Ketchum, because, even though both characters claim to depend on their friends a lot, they deal with this idea in different ways.

Tai is rather humble and determined, hoping against all odds to win the day, whatever. Faith keeps him going through the tough times. When he's alone, he thinks about his friends to keep his spirits up.

Ash is an arrogant, ignorant jerk with only the most tenuous and vaguely defined goals in life. He is driven by the force of his own ego, which is considerable. His friends keep him out of trouble and correct his stupid mistakes, but whether he's with them or not, he's usually thinking about himself.

The way I see it, this fight has to be one on one. Neither of them can have any help, whatsoever, from their friends.

Even with their various and sundry "mon," Ash wins. Why? He's certainly the less capable or intelligent of the two. He usually makes very poor decisions. But Tai is an emotional basket case. Without the distant hope of his friends somehow helping him out or showing up at the end of the battle, he'll despair, do nothing, and eventually (so long as Ash avoids killing himself) lose.

Ash's ego may be a weakness, but it does manage to keep him pretty emotionally stable, if simplistic. Tai is too much of a drama queen to really handle himself in that sort of a fight.

Before they got to begin fighting, I shot mel Gibson with a bazooka, cause, to be honest, I don't really like Mel Gibson.

^Likes orangutans, posts funny stuff in the "Ruler of the land topic", thinks my aunt is cool. Has an avatar of a girl wiping off a tear, which goes very well with the name Haha Monkey (wiping off the tear from laughing).
