...it could either be very good, or Very bad for the competitive smash community...

someone just asked one of the editors on IGN's wii channel(that guy rick or w/e) if he might be willing to do an article on the competitive side of smash....to explain things in more detail about just what it is, what the *real* changes from melee to brawl were, both the good and the bad about both melee's competitive side, and brawls...

so... if he agrees....it could turn out as a very good thing for competitive players(seriouslly the fox only FD only meme and "wavedashing is OPed even though i really don't know what it is" crap is still very common from the casual side.)or a very bad thing.....informing people more about the competittive side, and showing em we're not as evil as they all think we are, could be a good thing....but at the same time, it could backfire and end up being very very bad....

All you post about is Brawl, XD. You care too much about what people do/think, btw. :3

i'm on a site about smashbros....

what did you expect me to talk about? the weather?

and besides, this is about both melee and brawl.

IGN is a big site.....getting the competitive side fo smash known about there, and talked about there(in a good way) could be a very good thing for the scene, whether its brawl or melee, first and foremost it might shut people up using the dumb stereotypes of "Fox only, final destination only" or "wavedashing is OPED!" and might actually get people curious about the scene, instead of hating us for no reason.

bringing in a bunch of new potential players is always a good thing.

People say wavedashing is an overpowered technique? o.O
as crazy as that sounds.....yes.....yes casuals actually think that wavedashing is an oped, broken technique, most of em don't even know what it is honestly, but they've heard about the competitive side using the term for so many years, taht they seem to just assume that you have to learn this one technique, and suddenly you are some kind of professional melee player that will win crap loads of tournaments and money..

This is IGN, so it's a bad thing.

IGN editor Rich, has replied saying he might be willing to do an article on the competitive side of smash, he wants to know of ANY well versed, Hardcore, Well written/spoken smash players in the competitive side.

i've never been good at writing up professional articles or the like, does anyone know of someone that might be? he said he'd be unlikely to do it for brawl, but might be curious to do it about melee, so we'd need someone who is definatly well versed/well experianced in the melee scene, while at the same time not going to sound extremely biased/harsh on brawl.

(just for the record i do prefer melee myself, but it'd end up looking very bad on the competitive side of smash overall if the whole article basicly went straight down the path of "brawl sucks, melee is better" )

Tell the dude to get his *** on Smashboards and do a nice Q&A thread.

**** he can do it in UB it'd probably explode with popularity.

OMG WE'RE ON IGN!

Then I'll CG > Spike the blog when it goes over the top with Melee vs Brawl trolling.

ya'll are lookking at this in the worst possible way....

Keep in mind IGN is probably the biggest gamign site on the web

getting competitive smash noticed, and hopefully in a GOOD view, with articles from actual competitive smashers to give people a better understanding of something hardly any of em know anything about, or have only heard very bad rumors about....getting people to know the truth, that we're not as bad and evil as we've been stereotyped as, is a good thing.

That's because we're always prepared for the worst!

I dunno, I mean if the dude puts some good time into the article and actually gets all the facts and stuff right, then it would be fine, but considering the workload a high end IGN journalist probably has, I can't see the article being much more than a meagre afterthought, and with such little time invested, it'll probably be somewhat vague and misinformed.

that is why he was asking the users from here at SWF to write it for him basicly

or something along those lines

i'm guesing it would more or less be like an interview or something from a competitive player,

either way, getting some kind of coverage of something other then "these evil weirdo smashers that do nothign but glitch the game and play nothing but final destination" would be good coverage.....

Man it's funny because I think once IGN mentioned wavedashing and called it a glitch.

First order of correction obv.

It is a glitch... I thought everyone understood that. It's a glitch that we use but its definitely not something they planned to be in the game (keyword: Planned. I realize they found it before releasing the game, but it was still accidental).

That being said, I agree with link here. Any coverage thats not just repeating "No items, Fox Only, Final Destination" would be helpful.

err..actualy wavedashing isn't a glitch, its a physics exploit..

its the same thing as the brawl eskimos death grab, not a glitch, just an exploit of the physics that the players took advantage of.

either way, like you said though, it wasn't intended to be used, but its by no means an actual "glitch" such as something like.....the mortar slide in brawl, or the freeze glitch with ice climbers in melee, a physics exploit is in some ways similar, but yet still very different.

but yes....we definatly have a huge chance here to fix the smash community's bad image that its been given over the years.

Okay... I guess its a 'physics exploit.' But honestly, it holds the same, if not a worse, connotation to casual players being called that.

But yes, we should get a good collab going with some of the top melee players to send to this IGN man. It'd be a good read for the more open-minded people (and us as well :D ).

heh I remember in like 2008 or something I wrote ign saying "why do you ignore the competitive community and pretend it doesn't exist? Arrrrrrrg!"

I mean, I even knew at the time that they're casual smashers, and for the decent reason that they have to cover tons of other video games as well. But part of me still wants more exposure to competitive melee (who cares about brawl lol) from sites like ign

either way, getting some kind of coverage of something other then "these evil weirdo smashers that do nothign but glitch the game and play nothing but final destination" would be good coverage.....
agreed, we pretty much have nothing more to lose at this point. I really hope the editor agrees to do it. There are tons of smashers out there who'd easily be qualified and really understand competitive smash. Just off the top of my head I'd love to see dmac, rockcrock, waffles, wobbles, etc. do it just to name a random few
