Remember back when assist trophies were introduced in Brawl? Since then, assist trophies have been potrayed and seen as deconfirmation victims. However, being an assist trophy can be a step for a character to become playable. However, some assist trophies may just take longer to be promoted to playable characters.
Well, here's the list of types of deconfirmations.
Background Character: No longer deconfirmed since Smash 4.
Boss: No longer deconfirmed since Ultimate.
Character in move: No longer deconfirmed since Ultimate.
Assist Trophy: Since Brawl
Pokeball (pokemon only): Since Smash 64
Third Party Character: No longer deconfirmed since Brawl.
Non-Videogame Character: Since Smash 64.
Fan Character: Since Smash 64.
So what would happen if assist trophies never existed? Well, only pokemon would be able to be deconfirmed, starting from Ultimate.
