If another "surprise" video game fighter was added, how would you react?

Let's say there's a video game character out there called X (no, not Mr. X). X is a character many people know about yet almost no one expects will be in the game. X has been used in video games for a long time and is considered by some to be a gaming icon. When revealed, X is a total surprise that no one anticipated but is shown to have a unique and fun to play moveset, as well as coming with a beautiful new stage and awesome soundtracks. However, since no one expected X to be in the game, the community is starting to divide. Some people say X was a pleasant surprise that lives up to Reggie's comments about all of the newcomers being unexpected. others say that X "stole the spot" of more anticipated (non-assist trophy) fighters such as Geno, Banjo & Kazooie, Bandana Waddle Dee, Impa or Dixie Kong, and that Sakurai is ignorant, selfish, control-freaky and/or "out to get" their fanbase by refusing to put their favorite into the game, similar to how some people reacted toward Piranha Plant.

Since we already has a newcomer like X (Piranha Plant), how would you feel if something like this happened again? Would you be pleasantly surprised, or would you start to think that the newcomer selection isn't as good as some people hoped? Or does it depend on who X is?

Well, when Piranha Plant was revealed, I was laughing my ass off. Even though I thought there were enough Mario characters, I didn't mind Piranha Plant's inclusion. I think it would depend on who the character is, but I'm personally content with who I have to select.

Pleasantly surprised. It's no secret that I've been getting a little sick of "obvious inclusion" and "flawless leak" predictions lately, so something to shake up the scene would be nice.

depends on who it is but in general I am all for someone no one sees coming

Depends who it is. If the character is a HUGE star that we never considered due to various reasons then I'm down. If it just feels like advertising for a game another company wants to push, I'll probably personally skip the purchase.

Even without the X scenario, this will happen. 100%. It doesn't freaking matter who's added to the game at this point, a huge chunk of the fanbases for these characters will take it personally and get unreasonably angered. I've seen it way too many times. Even if we get one of those highly anticipated characters, the fans for one of the other characters will be furious. It doesn't matter how great of an addition X is, as long as it's not Y, it'll be perceived as an insult to the fanbase by some people.
