i considered carefully if this is worth being a serious topic and i finally decided to make it to one. in other words: this thread must be treated with respect. yeah, i know thats kinda stubborn but maybe i lift the seriousness for future topics. dont forget, only serious posts (you can annotate them with "(serious post)" when you respond), no trolling, and no flaming or off topic since this is a serious topic!

alright so i have an idea to balance out the seeding in tourneys and make it fairer for all participants. you must know first, the placement in the pool decides what seed is allotted to you. top seed or worst seed, you know what im talking about. but theres actually a problem in that process. how fair is it if a top seed, for example a captain falcon player, gets a sheik player as his opponent that has a worse seed? being the falcon player youre already disadvantaged altough it should be the case that the top seed has the easier match. so i think the player`s main character should be considered as well when we do seeding. a famous example was the armada - silent spectre match at pound. armada had the best seed, not losing a single match in pools (btw he didnt drop a match at a full tourney as well [@BEAST]) and then he had to face silent spectre pretty early in the bracket which is an unwinnable matchup for peach. is this the prize for getting best seed? i honestly dont think so and this is a huge deficit of seeding and tourneys in general.

that being said, i would like to hear your opinions on that. should the seeding also depend on the matchups played? so if we have a falcon with top seed and one sheik and one peach with worse seeds the falcon should get the peach player. i actually think thats a pretty good compromiss and im looking forward to hear your opinions on that.

Being able to play to your weaknesses, either by solving problems by covering said weaknesses, or being able to play another character to cover bad matchups, is also a part of being good.
In other words, no johns.

....are you stupid?
i'm not sure i should even dignify this with a response.

but i'm tired and sick so here goes:
1. anyone who has to put that first paragraph in is either a troll or an idiot who can't understand why they're being called dumb. e.g.: smasherlink, maxfire.

2. your example is invalid. pretty much everyone knows that peach v falcon is slightly in falcon's favor. slightly.

3. the whole concept is completely unenforcable. how do you keep ppl from saying they main horrible characters in order to control who they're seeded against

4. this defeats the point of a double-blind pick.

5. finally and most importantly, your success as a player depends on understanding the tournament system, with counterpicking, secondaries, etc. If you have a bad matchup, either play better than them or counterpick better than them.

there is no player-player matchup. every disadvantaged cpt falcon player can switch his character at the beginning of a match, because he didn't register into the tourney with being captain falcon, he could just play sheik dittos with his oponent to show that he has more skill, because it is a form of skill being able to play a variety of characters, so people who can play a variety of characters should be benefited, which they are by the ability to counterpick. btw all your match-up talk is getting old pound =) (serious post)

In the Peach-Falcon example, the Falcon should be rewarded for being smart enough to pick a character that has the match-up advantage.

Theres no real way to enforce this and before everyone starts going ape **** I'm just gonna close this.

You can say all this in theory but then you have someone like me that plays marth/sheik/peach/fox.

Or Vanz who plays like ICz/Jiggs/Sheik/peach/everyone.

Then you can't apply this idea at all for us because a falcon could potentially have a good or bad match up vs me or vanz for example.

And yea this stuff is better for Tournament discussions anyway so yea.

/thread.
