i just discovered a potentially very important or combo-able technique with the ice climbers that will hopefully prove benefitial to your game

i was laying around with wave dashing > icicle offstage and i discovered this:

if you wave dash backwards, off stage and once u fall off the edge, press b (for icicle) you turn around (sometimes... not perfected yet), then use squall to recover. your next move should be: running jump (b) icicle. but the difference is that now u jump an extra couple feet or so,,, or w/e the proportions are. either way, its a noticable difference and you get extra height on your jump. unfortunately ice climbers don't have a very good air game and this might not be all that important because of it.

but it does make you wonder what combos could arise from it.

comments plz, try it out

You can't just use Squall to recover after falling off the ledge, it doesn't give you enough vert hight. And are you saying once to you get on the ledge to do a running block, or what?

no
nothing like that

i'm saying u spam b to get back up.. and if u have nana, its alot easier, but not impossible with just one icey

u wd off the edge, backwards, press b and spin around in the air, now ur facing away from the board, u'll see it work cuz the icicle will go one way and u'll look the other, now quickly jump and squall to recover.
then do a running jump icicle, you go much higher, the icicle stays at the same height though...almost like u kick it instead of hitting it w/ the hammer

its hard to describe it... u gotta try it, and i know someone else will see what i'm saying

eright i figured this out!

...what a great way to spend a friday evening... grounded

newho... what happens is... when you wave dash into a jump off stage, then icicle, miss the edge and recover by squall, your next jump>icicle will allow you to jump full height and gives you no delay for creating the icicle. what this means is you jump higher, and the icicle acts like its being hit where you pressed b, you don't get the little boost from the the icicle creation as you normally would, after that all your other icicles are normal

i hope this helps someone

after much thought and consideration.. i realized it really doesn't help you at all... much

unless you for some reason want to hit a guy w/ the icicle and land on a platfor at the same time
then it might come in handy... otherwise.. its just a useless technique that is unique to IC

I've been trying to figure this out for a while but I give up at this point. I recommend making a video..it's just way too confusing right now.

Wow, I feel so dumb for even clicking on the first on hahaha. Goos **** Hozart, using FD lol. Neal and I tried this out with no success, please tell me where we went wrong.

-WD backwards off the stage (facing towards the stage)
-Fire an ice block away from the stage (now turned around via ice block)
-Hammer Squall back onto the stage
-Immediately dash
-Jump and fire an ice block
-Achieve no super jump.

Make a video of it or show it off at a tourney

I think I actually did this in a match on Saturday. It was a teams match. For some reason I found myself WD'ing backwards off the stage, so I figured what the hell, let's give it a shot. Fire Ice Block -- wow, Popo turns to face away from the stage but the icicle fires towards the stage. Interesting. Ok, now jump and squall back onto the stage. Everyone is concerned with my teammate and ignoring me, groovy. After landing, run, full jump ice block. And ya know what? Maybe the ice block did come out of my feet instead of my hammer.

I couldn't reproduce it later with Azn Lep, mainly because I couldn't get the inverted ice block to work.

this is the post i made, 3rd, and it makes more sense.. plus its easier to do than the other, where u flip around in midair

1) WD or run (yes you can run too) facing either way towards edge of stage
2) when you are close enough you can either fall, or jump, still holding momentum so you do pass the edge
3) icicle in midair then recover with squall (side b)
4) run towards the middle of the board do a full jump and somewhere before the peak of the jump, icicle again
5) this should allow you to get maximum height because you are not lagged by hitting the icicle, and the icicle acts like it was hit where you pressed b

i hope this helps some more
