My girlfriend has entered this contest and I really need people to vote for it. She's a very hard worker and I wholeheartedly believe that she deserves this. I came to the smash community because you guys are probably the most chill people out of any video game community and believe it or not actually really reliable. Even if only a few of you vote it'll be greatly appreciated. To vote for the essay there's a button at the bottom of the essay and one next to the number of votes that's fairlly hard to miss.

Thank you for taking the time out to view and read this. Much thanks in advance! You guys are the best! <3

Thanks! Keep em coming!

Also she'll probably eventually find this thread/blog on her own. She tends to take a peek at my SWF account from time to time. :x

Lol. He knows me too well. <3

All votes will be calculated some time in June, and I'm hoping to get at the least 250 for now.

Thank you for everyone that has voted so far. I appreciate it. :)

I didn't find it a masterpiece or anything, but it was a good, solid essay. I gave it my vote.

Gotta admit, that's one sucky essay. How old is she?
If you want to offer criticism, then offer criticism. No need to cut someone down. This type of essay is on par with something you'd write on a college application. No one ever submits Pulitzer level pieces or anything like that.

In that case the US has got a long way to go. Simply reading the essay would've made a difference.

Being in her classroom has also instilled a new feeling of trust in the newer adults I may encounter in my life, coming from an earlier thought that just can't trust anybody.
Wut?

When discussing such events (One example, the passing away of two twins she gave birth to),
Again: wut?

This essay is nothing but random positive terms to describe a teacher, that is for reason considered "more than a hero". The essay has no logical structure, and the introduction doesn't even remotely address the subject of the essay. Considering the length of the "thing", I can't even consider it an essay. It's absolutely terrible. I'm Dutch and I've written better stuff. Even in my english class this would be considered below average and random.

Edit: for real: how old is she?

You're probably right. But the truth is, personal statements in the U.S. are more often used to evaluate an applicant's character than their writing skills. Some people are even asked to write one when they're buying a house. Even on college applications, making yourself seem like a good, contributing citizen is more important than getting all the grammar right.

Yeah, you could say that it's the wrong way to do things, but that's how it works in the U.S.

I believe you. I'm a product of U.S. society, and this essay is much better than some other pieces of writing I've seen from high school and college students. Some kids I graduated with could barely read. A lot of my friends are smart people, but if they ever had to put their thoughts into words, it would be a trainwreck. What that says about us as a society, I don't even want to know.

To be honest, that doesn't surprise me. However, I've known US education isn't amazing for years (except unis etc.). It's probably a result of privatized education. Judging people of their character seems quite unusual to me, I've never heard that. It seems like an interesting approach.

@Rhan: no offense. I don't know her, but I was just in a troll mood. And no need to respect my opinion. Anyway, I voted, Gl.

Just so...I know I stood up for myself..

I'm 18, and I'm very well aware this isn't a master piece or anything. The format of the scholarship is really turned into more a popularity contest, so, I beg your sweet pardon if I didn't "perfect" it for your viewing.

For what it's worth, I had written sometime last year and it fit the essay's prompt for the scholarship.

Please go troll somewhere else.
