Shadow Light Master
Smash Journeyman
This thread is about Meta Knight.
The thing is, when Brawl first came out, I was so pumped when Sonic was announced. Same with Toon Link, Meta Knight, and Lucario. As a matter of fact, they were my most anticipated characters. I told myself I was going to use Sonic no matter what, and that nothing would stop me, and I would be a Gimpyfish and a rarity, and practice with Sonic until I was a formidable force.
As soon as Brawl came out however, there were serious kinks in my plan. i did not stay true to myself. I found Lucario did not fit my style (and moved to Pikachu later and dropped him too, more on that in a second), and that Sonic was low-tier material. Although I found Toon Link to be great, and he's still my main to this day, the thing is, I felt (and still feel like) I'm a tier *****. I mean, TWW is tied with MM for my favorite Zelda, and thus Toon Link is my favorite, I still can't deny that I main him because he is effective in the metagame. Had the positions been reversed, I know I'd have dropped Toon Link in favor of Link, as I dropped Sheik, and because of this I feel like a hypocrite.
Meta Knight was always my favorite character from the Kirby series, but the Kirby series itself was only like my 4th favorite franchise. I will not deny that my decision to secondary him, as I've decided now, wasn't influenced by the tier lists. I was excited at his inclusion in Brawl, and was excited that he's good, but the fact of the matter is, I know I will drop him if he is nerfed bad in the next installment. The fact that I've let go of my second favorite character in the Brawl roster (Sonic) is proof to this. And it sickens me. Because I know I'll do it, and that this means I'm slave to the metagame.
As I mentioned earlier, I dropped Lucario for Pikachu. I don't regret this, I've come to enjoy Pikachu, but I came into problems versus the Mother boys and my fellow Brawlers told me I was much better with Toon Link. I subsequently dropped him. I knew I had to cover up Toon Link's weaknesses, and thus out of necessity and not wholly out of love, I've decided to pick up Meta Knight.
As I said, I am a fan of Meta Knight, but not as much as I am of Sonic. The fact that I've decided to use him instead of working on Sonic saddens me. It proves my love is shallow and weak, and that even though Brawl won't allow Gimpyfish to spawn, that I was even to weak too try to be one.
I'm sorry Smashboards. I'm sorry GameFAQs. I believe I'm a tier *****.
Forgive me.
