This thread is about Meta Knight.

The thing is, when Brawl first came out, I was so pumped when Sonic was announced. Same with Toon Link, Meta Knight, and Lucario. As a matter of fact, they were my most anticipated characters. I told myself I was going to use Sonic no matter what, and that nothing would stop me, and I would be a Gimpyfish and a rarity, and practice with Sonic until I was a formidable force.

As soon as Brawl came out however, there were serious kinks in my plan. i did not stay true to myself. I found Lucario did not fit my style (and moved to Pikachu later and dropped him too, more on that in a second), and that Sonic was low-tier material. Although I found Toon Link to be great, and he's still my main to this day, the thing is, I felt (and still feel like) I'm a tier *****. I mean, TWW is tied with MM for my favorite Zelda, and thus Toon Link is my favorite, I still can't deny that I main him because he is effective in the metagame. Had the positions been reversed, I know I'd have dropped Toon Link in favor of Link, as I dropped Sheik, and because of this I feel like a hypocrite.

Meta Knight was always my favorite character from the Kirby series, but the Kirby series itself was only like my 4th favorite franchise. I will not deny that my decision to secondary him, as I've decided now, wasn't influenced by the tier lists. I was excited at his inclusion in Brawl, and was excited that he's good, but the fact of the matter is, I know I will drop him if he is nerfed bad in the next installment. The fact that I've let go of my second favorite character in the Brawl roster (Sonic) is proof to this. And it sickens me. Because I know I'll do it, and that this means I'm slave to the metagame.

As I mentioned earlier, I dropped Lucario for Pikachu. I don't regret this, I've come to enjoy Pikachu, but I came into problems versus the Mother boys and my fellow Brawlers told me I was much better with Toon Link. I subsequently dropped him. I knew I had to cover up Toon Link's weaknesses, and thus out of necessity and not wholly out of love, I've decided to pick up Meta Knight.

As I said, I am a fan of Meta Knight, but not as much as I am of Sonic. The fact that I've decided to use him instead of working on Sonic saddens me. It proves my love is shallow and weak, and that even though Brawl won't allow Gimpyfish to spawn, that I was even to weak too try to be one.

I'm sorry Smashboards. I'm sorry GameFAQs. I believe I'm a tier *****.

Forgive me.

Do you enjoying playing them? That's all that matters.

I like Mario games as well as most of the characters but I don't main any of them.

Yeah, I think Meta Knight is awesome, I love how fast he is and how you can manipulate his position with ease, and his play style is really cool in an era where we have been met with the death of the combo. I'm just crushed to know my passion is so shallow.

EDIT: Oh, Kirby games. Yes! I loved Tilt N' Tumble, unlocked everyone and beat the game with everyone in Canvas Curse, Beat Nightmare in Dreamland 100% on Normal, Expert, and even with MK (lol, no reward). As a matter of fact, I lost my copy of Amazing Mirror and had to hunt for days for a used one. I picked it up because it has Meta Knight! Also, because it's non-linear style gives it a lot more depth, and the new abilities are just plain fun. And when are they going to bring back double combo abilities from 64? They were awesome!

I hate Air Ride though. >_>

I say that doesn't matter at all. As long as you enjoy playing.. that's all that matters.

I see no need to apologize.

The key to this problem is to main two characters. One you really like. and one thats top tier. For me thats lucario and snake.

Well, there are three main reasons for choosing a main:

1) How Good they are
2) The series the character is from
3) How fun to play as

There's nothing wrong with number one, it's the most common. In a perfect smash world, I would be maining Captain Falcon. I think we know why I don't. But I think the best way to choose a main is looking through a list of all characters that you consider "good," and choose your favorite from those. Sometimes though, people are simply better with low tier characters.

And you aren't a tier *****. Unless you main Fox in Melee and Snake or MK in Brawl, while thinking people playing low tier characters are noobs.

You pulled a SEGA on Sonic! Son of a... mommy.

`.`; play with whoever fits your style and winrate the best.

I can't play MK or Snake for my life, but I win the majority of my matches with Sonic (and to a much lesser extent, my "secondaries", Falcon and Ike), since the playstyle apparently suits me and I can outplay opponents better with Sonic than I can with other chars.

PS.

so you made a thread to baww about choosing a main? .__.;

I have an opposite confession. I love MK to death, Kirby is probably my favorite franchise, with Meta Knight and/or Kirby being my favorite character. However, i don't use MK because i think he's broken and should be banned, and he's extremely overused.

I dunno, that might've kind of sounded like sarcasm out of nowhere, but i'm for real... I wish MK sucked so i could play him.

Seriously, you're better of with a lower character that fits your style than expecting an insta win when you choose a top tier character.

You're right. Speaking of that, I'm switching my main... To Jigglypuff. I just win with her more than top tier characters.

1) Do you LIKE playing as Meta Knight?

If no, go to question 2.

If yes, good for you!

2) Why don't you like playing as Meta Knight?

If it's because he's a top tier, then realize that you shouldn't let other's opinions affect your own.

If it's because you don't like how he plays, stop playing him.

Well, I have a report to make. I tried out Meta Knight seriously for the first time yesterday, and I had a blast. He's everything Sonic should've been. I love his speed in not only movement, but his fast, nearly lagless attacks. He can combo, and I feel like I'm playing Melee again, or at least a version of Brawl where you can combo. It's great. His grabs have awesome range, and his bair and fair are perfect for approaching. I'm just having a blast.

Metaknight is seriously a fun character to play. I mean I moved around a bit until I realized that metaknight is like the best character in the game. Winning = fun so why not play to win.

Just wanted to make a note on this week of me playing Meta Knight. He's insane. He's so freaking crazy, I love his fast playing style, **** it's almost like I'm in Melee again. He's just a crazy mofo. I love it, after this even Toon Link seems too slow!
