I was watching the Squirtle vid Tobias put up (Shellshifting/SWD) and he mentioned hyphen-smashing.

I think I may have overlooked this tech when I was reading the compilation thread, so what exactly does it consist of?

That's all that is?

I figured that out the first day I played the game >_>

Why would they bother with such a pointless name?

Hmm. Hyphen smash:

- smash

Maybe the hyphen symbolizes motion. You know, like when cartoon characters run, there are lines that trail behind them. This hyphen represents the running, and the smash is the verb. Thus, hyphen smash = running smash, symbolically.

I agree, that's a really superfluous way to name a running smash. :)

on the name: running = dash, and dash is another name for hyphen. the namer just thought hyphen sounded alot better than anything else like dash smash, etc.

sorry to bring up old ish

but i though hyphen smashing was specifically a dash ATTACK into an upsmash via the c-stick

something that cannot be done with the basic attack button, and a combination of both attack
just asking because im not sure

as a TL, i've been trying to see if these video i've been watching feature him boost smashing, hyphen dashing, or simply doing a running upsmash

Is this the Sliding Up-Smash(like Mortar Slide) or the Dash -> Lagless Up-Smash glitch that Falco can do(I'm not sure if others can do it)
