So, anyone else here playing HvZ at their school?

For those who don't know, HvZ is basically an ongoing game of glorified tag that takes place on countless college campuses across the country. The idea is that there are humans and zombies, signified by a bandanna either on their arm or head, respectively. The game usually starts with one or two zombies, and once a human is tagged, they become a zombie. Humans carry around nerf guns or socks which they use to "stun zombies" for 15 minutes. Some campuses organize "missions" for the humans.

Basically, it's the most fun you can have on a college campus.

Currently I have four zombie kills and am one of the few humans left. However, there is a large group of zombies camping outside the building I need to go to. My roommate, a zombie, informed them of who I am, where I live, and when I will be there. I don't think I'll make it out alive.

Oh, here's the official website:
http://humansvszombies.org/
There's a pretty cool video on there documenting a schools HvZ game.

Since I'm not old enough to go to college, I've never played a real big game os HvZ, but I mod nerf guns a little, but mostly break things in the process. Looks like great fun though. Good luck in your next game!

Not really, surprisingly. It's really just for fun, and cheating just takes away from the fun for everyone. Everyone is in it just to have a good time, not to win. Though it is basically impossible for the humans to win. Some colleges that have larger groups (RIT had 600 this year, I believe) put in a rule where if a zombie doesn't "feed" for X amount of days, they die.

In other news, I killed two zombies on my way to the dining hall. One was a sneak attack, the other was my roommate trying to ambush me. My kill count is something around 10 or 11 at this point. The human numbers are getting very low.

if i was you, i would've never gone to the dining hall.

you know zombies go there to dine on "brains"

in all seriousness though, how long do these games last anyway?

Depends on the campus rules. My campus I think is doing it either until all the humans are gone or the semester ends.

A few weeks/maybe a month ago I saw some kids running around campus with nerf guns. They were probably doing this (or something similar to this game).

Sounds fun, though I agree with tko that it's ballsy to go into the dining hall.

Do you have to be playing at all times? Are there rules against someone going into your class to "kill" you?

Well, dammit, I had to eat. I was hungry. I'm not going to stop leaving my dorm to avoid becoming a zombie. Besides, zombie hunting is super fun.

Every college will establish different safe zones, but generally it's no academic or dorm buildings. My campus is just no buildings at all, it's 100% outside. But yes, any time you leave your dorm, you must be wearing your arm/head band. Some colleges even have a rule where you cannot be off campus for longer than two days without a legit excuse.

Oh, I must have skipped the part where you said "on my way" to the dining hall. I was under the assumption that it was game on in the dining hall as well.
Oh, no. That would be totally ridiculous. People running around, shooting each other... in the dining hall.

What gun are you using? Have you ever considered modding it? Unless you're campus has rules against modding. But a well modded nerf gun can go from 60-100 ft depending on the gun.

I have some 6-shot hand gun deal. Not sure what it's called. I don't even think it's nerf, honestly.

But I don't think they care about modding it, but it does say not to paint it different colors. I have no clue how to mod them anyway, but I'd love to learn.

I'm actually working on a modified rule set so that this will work in high schools too. I want to play it, but ****it, I'm not waiting another two years to be able to!

My school has this, and one of my friends was pretty into it. He made a nerf dart grenade. When he threw it to the ground, tons of darts splashed out in a circular radius.

Me and my friends have had a few funny discussions before about zombies, you know, what you would do if a zombie apocalypse came.

Get a crap load of canned/non perishable food, find an apartment block with an easily blocked stairwell, hideout at the top, make love to pass time.

Unfortunately since you can really own guns around here it hinders your ability to go outside.

You also have to take in account whether they are 28 days later fast or Resident Evil for the PS fast.

Aidan I suggest a helicopter on the roof. You never know, those zombies are relentless and will stop at nothing to seize your brain(s) so you don't wanna get trapped in that apartment without a backup way out do you? :bee:

Socks are okay, kinda like nades. I loved having sock fights as a kid with my bro. Parents never asked us to the laundry folding ever again

It must be HvZ season, this game just ended on my campus. I did not play since i dont want to by nerf guns and i would rather not throw my socks at people, but i had friends who played who really enjoyed it. For some reason this year the game was only 8 days while last semester it was like 2 weeks long.

This is exciting. The game at my Uni starts tonight at 5!
We should swap war stories once everything is done.

If there were abandoned buildings around, we'd probably do it there.

Well, I'm still a human. Went zombie hunting with a few guys last night. One of them had a nerf machine gun and a "grenade" (sock) belt. It was epic.

they banned a sort of similar game at my high school. where like everyone is assigned a person to "assassinate" by marking them with a sharpie. When you 'assassinate" someone you get the person they were supposed to assassinate. Last one standing wins. It was something like that. They made everyone pay like like 3 bucks to play so the winner got a prize. but anyone caught playing was suspended.

We actually just got done playing this at my school! We had over 200 people playing on campus, and we even had special ID cards to keep track of the kills, the corrdinators really did a good job with it.

The game went two weeks, I lasted 4 hours :c. Then again, there were 70 zombies by the end of the first day, but no johns...
