I would pretty much use the GC controls, with mild alterations.
L+R= Shielding
A= Standard
B= Special
X+Y+ up on the control stick = Jump
+pad= Smash

On the GC it is either L/R+A or just Z, but on the 3DS it will either be L/R+A or something like SELECT.

I will most likely use the default setting, as long as I have a button to jump and can turn tap jump to off.

Not going to lie, but I'd want to play it as close to the N64 version of buttons just so I wouldn't confuse myself:

Analog Stick = Move
D-Pad = Taunt(s)
B Button = Regular attack
Y Button = Special attack
A and X = Jump (sort of like the og C buttons)
L and R = Shield

I would probably trade X out for grabbing though.

Analog Stick=Move/Jump
D-Pad=Taunt
A=Standard Attacks
B=Special Attacks
L and R=Shield
X and Y=Grab

I think here pretty good controls.

Does the CPP have 3 shoulder buttons? Cause then I wouldn't have to get used to grabbing with the L button

Yes, it does. A ZL Button, a ZR Button, and a new R Button (since with the CPP attached, the original R Button is now out of reach for the player)

In that case I'm not getting a CPP I'm not even left handed ._______.

L = grab (I never use L for shielding... Or anything for that matter)
R = Shield
X = Jump
Y = Jump
B = Special
A = Attack
Directional pad = Taunts.

Considering Sakurai's emphasis on variance in game controllers, I'm certain he'll add the cpp... Unless he runs out of space (Which, I doubt he may. Someone needs to use 4gb gamecards sometime.)

Also, I'm surprised people already thought up of the control scheme I thought of O_o

Who the heck jumps with a button when you can just tilt upwards?

For me, it's probably gonna be something like this:

Circle Pad- Move
D-Pad - Taunt
X- Jump
A- Jump or Grab
B- Special
Y- Attack
L- Shield
R- Shield or Grab

Oh, and I read some earlier posts, so if I get a second circle pad (circle pad pro), then I will probably use it for smash attacks, too, like a C-stick, thanks for the ideas, guys! :)

I'm excited for the first portable smash! Don't let me down, Nintendo! ^_^

I so wish Nyko would have released their Circle Pad extension. It's looks way better than the 1st party CPP.

I want to use the CPP for the use of the extra buttons, but it just feels awkward.

Smasboards suck
Hmm, probably will try the default first before I make a decision.

I would definitely use the 2nd circle pad for smash attacks like the C-stick on the GC controller.

Still wish Nyko didn't cancel there extension. The only one available is Nintendo's unless you make your own like this guy. And it would be easier in smash bros. if the 2nd circle pad was below the 4 buttons to deliver accurate C-stick smash attacks:

This is probably very weird to those of u who played smash 64 and melee, but I've only played brawl, and this is my control scheme:
B: jump
A: grab
Y: attack
X: special
L/R: shield, taunt

A/B: Jump
Y: Attack
X: Special
R: Shield
L: Grab
Circle Pad for movement, D-Pad for taunts
If Circle Pad Pro is supported (which it will be) then Right Pad for quick smash, ZR for Shielding and R for Grabs.

This is how I played Brawl with a Classic Controller so I could use aerials quicker.
Very good control scheme

It has been 3 months since I lasted posted, and I have decided... that I will just use the default controls. :awesome:

I actually have a 2DS, so it might be challenging, but I will get used to it. It isn't like I am going to take the 3DS version of Smash seriously. I will not even take the Wii U version seriously. Haha.

im hopin that they compensate for the lack of a real controller like SF4 did. it could hae been better imo but nintendo is smart. they'll probably think of something.

Hmmm,

Probably something like this:

A: Standard attacks
B: Specials
X: Jump
Y: Grab, maybe?
R and A: Grab
R: Air dodge/sheild
L: Air dodge/sheild, or L-canceling if it comes back
Circle Pad: Dash and Smashes
D-Pad: Tilts

Although with the Circle Pad set up like this, it might be hard to do a smash instead of a dash attack.

I think that Having A as Attack, B as Special an X as jump emulates the GCC's layout well as far as the action buttons go... if you ignore the missing secondary jump button.

With R and L as Shield and Y as Grab, i think it can work. D-pad will probly be for taunts...

I'm debating whether using the circle pad is a good idea...
It's probably going to be slowly ruined from all those smash attacks.

I'll change one of my jump buttons into my grab button, like I did in Brawl. No need to change the A or B buttons. Maybe I'll turn off the control stick's jumping too. I need to get more used to using the buttons alone. Normally I use a mix of both. And I'd use the D-Pad for the Smash attacks if possible.

I'm doing standard beat-'em-up layout.

A - Grab
B - Jump
X - Special
Y- Attack
L - Shield
R - Grab
D-Pad - Taunt
Tap Jump OFF

It's what feels right for me tbh. I'm too far gone to revert to default.
It's pretty awesome though. Having B at the base of your thumb and Y at the tip makes SHFF(L)s slightly faster.
