How to deal with Diddy's bananas.

Quite annoying.

Played someone online (no lag at all, surprisingly), and they picked diddy. He then starts picking bananas and starts chucking them at me relentlessly. I would trip, roll back, but he'd already be on his way to come in and **** me up or just check another at me.

I then tried going aerial on him. Only thing is, bananas **** you in the air, also. I had no idea what to do. One of the most frustrating fights I've ever played. I even tried to throw them back at him, but alas, there was another banana on the ground between me and him so I couldn't do anything except try and pick that one up. I just have one banana to throw at him, whereas he has an infinite amount.

Olimar pros, what to you do to punish this? If there really is any way to. I know one can just counter pick with any starfox character, but come on. Olimar has to be able to stand a chance against an effing monkey.

Use the nanerz against him. I play an awesome diddy everyday and it is so key to playing against him. Either use it against him or don't let him pick them out at all.

Also, SH downthrow a naner into FF fair and recatch naner and repeat is awesome

I stand still and let them come to me.
He has two bananas? He throws both, he dash attacks to pick up one of them by your feet.
That's your signal to grab him out of dash attack and get that dthrow/(usually fair) out.
I'd just repeat this and maybe get some fbs out.

Well I fought another Diddy (with no lag again surprisingly O.o) and tried something new.

Whenever he picked his bananas, I loaded him up with Pikmin. he soon got the idea that if he was to pick bananas, he be getting Pikmin to the face.

I also tried using the bananas against him, but those bloody things are (imo) the hardest item to pick up. And using them against him can only help a little bit, especially if there's another banana on the ground limiting where you can move around.

I basically have come to the conclusion that you need to camp the effer.

I use the bananas a ton. This matchup takes experience to learn, and I feel that I can play against any diddy very well as a result.

It's Diddys 2nd hardest matchup. Diddy should be the one with the issues, not the Olimar. Thrown pikmin intercept bananas in every way but ones used for grabs.

Diddies usually throw the bananas forward, so i just throw a pikmin to block his nana, and i jump over him, and if he tries to hit me while i am coming down from the air i Nair or WAC. This works for the Diddies that just throw nanas forward, but others are very tough to beat, you have to outspan him and keep the space close so he doesn\'t get a chance to pick his bananas. choose the Stage Lylat Cruise and BF this makes his bananas less effective,but they are still dangerous.

Throwing a pikmin forward usually will not work. The Diddy I play will shorthop to a perfectly aimed nanner that you cant intersept with a pikmin. Just saying... it arcs over the thrown pikmin

What I said is usually against a decent to good Diddies. The good Diddies, they just amaze me their Nanas. The only way i beat them is by Cping with BF or LC.

BF makes his nanas useless because when it hits me it goes up to the platform. So he can\'t continue to do this across the stage.

LC is always tilting thus making his throws off.

Only like 2 Diddies have ever beaten me, I just don\'t stop throwing my veggies at him. Diddies are fun to face.

I used to fight a decent Diddy Kong, I couldn't do much for his bananas and I usually lost...my best bet was to obviously steal their bananas, and like Blackwaltz said stand still because trying to approach them will lead to either Bananas or the ever so annoying Dash + Usmash "combo."

This matchup definitely takes time to learn, but its actually fun when you get the hang of it. :D

Prediction is the key really. You can sh nair or sh fair to catch the nannerz, shield when they throw the nanner and punish the dash attack, or my favorite abuse the bananas yourself. If one of the bananas is in your control, it messes them up a TON until they manage to get control of it again, and all you have to do really is punish them when they go for it. Also, atleast from my experience, Diddies love dsmash, and its ridiculously easy to punish if you predict it coming.

Again, predicition is whats going to win you the match.

On topic, if you really hate a certain match-up, the best thing you can do is pick them up as a secondary. Even if it's only a temporary secondary, maining a character will do wonders for your understanding of their tactics etc.

That's why I picked up R.O.B. a while back, I just hate fighting them!

Be as confident about picking up those banannas as he is.
Its all about nairs that pick up the banannas or dash attacks. Never try and walk up to one to get it.

Olimar has a dash attack that's identical to Diddy's. Learn to glide toss (I'm sure the diddy boards will have something regarding that) and practice manipulating nanners w/olimar. you should be set. practice catching them with dash and airdodge.
