How many Smash Bros. fans are actual fans of Nintendo?

I remember making a thread on Reddit awhile back on if you're a fan of the game your main comes from, and a handful of people actually said no. Not only that, but I have been seeing a good chunk of negative comments in Zinith's character threads. (More than I was expecting, anyway.) So, how much of the Smash Bros. fanbase actually likes Nintendo? Do you think Smash Bros. is actually held back by its use of Nintendo characters?

I'm a fan of Nintendo. My first console was the NES with Super Mario Bros. and Kid Icarus. I've owned the Super Nintendo, Nintendo 64, GameCube, Wii, and Wii U. I still own the original Game Boy, Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance, and Game Boy SP. I've never owned a Nintendo DS, but my brother does and has the Nintendo 3DS. The only non-Nintendo console I've owned was the PS3, and that's because I wanted to play Little Big Planet, since my friend owned it. I ended up buying Batman: Arkham Asylum, Batman: Arkham City, Little Big Planet 2, Uncharted 2 and 3, and Saints Row the Third. Unfortunately, something happened to my PS3.

I'd consider myself to be a fan of Nintendo, I guess. I remember having a dream to work in Nintendo when I was younger, but now I'm going for more achievable goals. I like a lot of their franchises like Super Mario Bros., Pokemon, Metroid, Fire Emblem, and Animal Crossing.

I've always held this belief that Super Smash Bros. should only have Nintendo's All-Stars, like in the 64 version. But then lesser known and 3rd party characters came into the fray, and then I just stopped caring about it.

Seeing how Super Smash Bros. is a huge crossover of both Nintendo and non-Nintendo characters, I would imagine that most Super Smash Bros. fans are actually fans of Nintendo, or at least the games that they originate from.

Yes I'm a fan of Nintendo. I remember my first was the GameCube. I loved it so much. I used to have Mario Sunshine, Melee, Mario Kart Double Dash, Spiderman, Sonic Mega Collection on it. Man, those were the days...

I've been a fan of Nintendo since I was born, basically. The only games I had played were Animal Crossing, Pikmin and Mario/Mario Kart/Mario Party games. When I started playing Brawl I had tangential knowledge of the other Nintendo games, but only that they existed. (For a while I thought Captain Falcon was a Star Fox character because of his role in SSE)

Though at this point, I feel like all the good Nintendo characters are pretty much all in Smash already. Which is why the vast majority of my character requests are 3P at this point.

Nintendo is the only gaming company I truly love and trust with my money whenever I buy something from them (especially when thy keep on bringing out GOAT games for each console and handheld they create). As for the characters in Smash right now

I've been an avid Nintendo fan for as long as I can remember. No matter if I play on PC, PlayStation, or Xbox, I always come back to Nintendo. I've played almost all the series that are represented in Smash and enjoy most of them.

Series I love: Legend of Zelda, Fire Emblem, Mario, Mother (Metal Gear and Sonic would also be in this section, but they're not Nintendo series)

Series I like: Metroid, Donkey Kong Country, Star Fox, F-Zero, WarioWare, Kirby, Yoshi, Pokemon, Kid Icarus, Animal Crossing, Splatoon (Final Fantasy, Mega Man and Bayonetta)

Series I'm indifferent to: Duck Hunt, Ice Climber, Mii games, Xenoblade (Although I only played X, so I'd like to try out 1 and 2 one day.)

Series I haven't played: Pikmin, Punch Out!!, ROB, Game & Watch (Street Fighter)

Definitely a huge Nintendo fan here. Zelda might just be my favorite game series of all time, and I've gone out of my way to beat every game in the series at least once (with the so-far only exception being Tri-Force Heroes, 'cause I wasn't convinced it was worth playing alone). Mario has also been a part of my life since I can remeber too, there hasn't been a main-series Mario platformer I haven't at least enjoyed. I'm very much into Metroid too, love both the 2D and first person games. Also the Donkey Kong Country series is ****ing brilliant. Also I love most Kirby games and even got into the anime at one point. The ****ing Kirby anime guys. Also I've been extremely dissapointed with both Star Fox and Pokémon lately, but I used to be a huge fan of those too. Kid Icarus Uprising is the best handheld game of all time and this is an objective unarguable fact you're wrong.

So yes, lol. I'm definitely a Nintendo fan. I frequently play almost all of the game series that Smash characters come from, and that only increases my enjoyment of the game. But I don't like Smash just because of that either, I'm a huge Smash fan as an individual game too, and I actually played it before I got into most of Nintendo series, including Zelda and Metroid.

I love Nintendo and love Smash for the celebration of Nintendo it is. Really saddens me to see that not only do many fellow Smash fans not love Nintendo also, they want Smash to stop being a celebration of Nintendo. From my personal experience, almost no Smash fans I know IRL care about anything Nintendo other than Smash and maybe Mario or Zelda. Anyways...

Never played FE, Metroid, doesn't play Pokémon anymore, everything else I don't play. I have played Metal Gear, Final Fantasy, PAC-Man, and Street Fighter though. Its obviously smart for Nintendo to include more 3rd party because Smash isn't going to grow with just Nintendo alone anymore.

i can hardly imagine a world of video games without nintendo, since they are the ones who revived gaming back when things were looking like it might die out.

i honestly find it odd that anyone could NOT be a fan of nintendo, since without them, there likely wouldn't even be gamers nowadays.

i love mario, zelda, metroid, etc... i still remember seeing the first smash commercial... it was a dream come true, and these games have been a huge part of my life since then, always been fun playing smash with family and friends, pitting our favorite characters against each other.

now, i'm not saying nintendo is perfect, they are human, after all, but you'd be a fool to think they don't make high quality games and that we don't have them to thank for the industry being where it is now.

Smashbros obviously isn't help back by it's, use of Nintendo characters, that is just silly. Nintendo has such a large variety of interesting characters and that clearly shows in smash.

I think you could argue Smash is held back by Sakurai considering how insistant he was on keeping smash a non-competative game but appears to be opening up to the idea.

My username says it all, lol. Nintendo has been my childhood, a lot of franchises I like come from it or are associated with Nintendo. Fire Emblem is probably one of my favorite franchises ever, and I have owned most Nintendo consoles.

Aside from smash I do play alot of fire emblem, zelda, and more recently splatoon and arms, I will also normally check out new entries for mario kart, mario 3d platformers, and animal crossing. Also want to try out Xenoblade and Advance Wars soon too so overall I would say I am a smash and nintendo fan.

Even though the Sega Game Gear is what drew me into video games in the first place and I've been a Nintendo fan ever since I owned the Nintendo 64. If anything, I've been a fan of Super Mario, Legend of Zelda, Pokemon, Fire Emblem, Xenoblade and many other Nintendo franchises.
