Just answer where appropriate.

How long did it take you guys to become...
1. Competent (good understanding of the game, application of ATs, match-ups, etc).
2. Competitive (consistent and decent performance at tournaments).
3. Highly competitive (constantly win/top tournaments).

And how'd you guys do it?

My answer:

1. A few months, it was so long ago and I was constantly shifting games (no johns). I just practiced the ATs in training, read smashboards and played lv9 computers lol

1. 6 months before i actually had any idea what was going on

I've still yet to achieve points 2 or 3.

Like jonas said, it's more of a zen philosophy in the sense that this moment is the only moment, and you can only improve as much as you can right now. Every moment you're playing this game is a transcendent instant of incandescent revelation, that lasts simultaneously an nansecond and a lifetime

As stated before, it's not exactly a point

1. Competent (good understanding of the game, application of ATs, match-ups, etc).
6-8 months after playing my first tournament

2. Competitive (consistent and decent performance at tournaments).
1 to 1.5 years

3. Highly competitive (constantly win/top tournaments).
Never got there

If that's actually what I said, I don't know what I was smoking then.

1: 8 months

2: 1.5 years

3: Not yet lol

My path is pretty normal for someone who tournies alot in the midwest. The coasts should be a few months faster.

1. Started in 05. Became very knowledgeable of the game around 2007.
2. Summer-2009. Out of every in-state tourney starting from summer 09 that I've entered, I only placed below top 8 once.
3. I'm only recently getting there, but I still need that extra push to win in-state, let alone OOS.

for some reason i think everyone else has much lower expectations of themselves, lol "top 10 = decent?" Ok I guess. :|

I come from TCGs where you're ****ing terrible if you can't get top 8.

1. Oh boy.. uhh.. 5-6 years? Well.. objectively I always wanted to get better so I was always competitive with friends. And then eventually we wanted more so ya, I played the game since it came out but getting into competition took.. 5 years.

2. I'd say 2 years. When I started competition, it took about 1.5-2 years to get really good and start to beat really strong opponents.

3. I did win some tournaments but.. consistently no way. Forever trying though. =)

Comment: Hardwork pays off right? lol.. >_>

1. It took me about a year to become confident.
2. I think I'm competitive enough to where I've become a tournament viable player and I've been going to about ten tournaments over the course of 2 years.
3. I've never won a tournament before. I'm still working on #2.
3. I did win some tournaments but.. consistently no way. Forever trying though. =)

It's really tough to win consistently with Ganon though. Ganon seems too slow at high level play.
