Okay first off, please read this:

http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=199108

Second of all, the reason I am posting this here is because I don't have set-out summaries of Kirby's performance in the elements of Brawl. So, I was wondering if you guys could do it, considering how you guys are the authorities on your own character.

Use this thread to discuss it, and then please post your results in the "Element of Brawl" thread linked above, using this format:

ZONING
  • On the ground
  • In the air
  • Off-stage

SPACING
  • Extreme long distance
  • Long distance
  • Medium distance
  • Short distance

KILLING
  • Killing power
  • Gimping potential

Thanks a bunch.

Zoning:

Ground: Sufficient and good, but not great ground moves, and no good way to ground approach. Rating: Below Average (2)

Air: Great aerials and aerial game, with a reliable meteor smash. Not great for approaching, but f-air and b-air are his only reliable options in this area. Also, his disjointed feet allow for canceling of many other moves. Rating: Above Average(4)

Off-stage: Great offstage game due to multiple jumps, and able to stage spike with multiple moves. Meteor smash is reliable, and f-air and b-air provide good pressure off-stage. Great recovery. Off-stage: Above Average (4)

Spacing:

Extreme long disance: bad spacing due to no projectiles other than slow final cutter. Rating: Unbearable (1)

Long distance: same as extreme long distance. Rating: Bearable (2)

Medium distance: good spacing can lead to many combos, grabs, and aerial hammers. Rating: Bearable (2)

Short distance: great spacing in conjunction with tilts, especially down and f-tilts. also, ground hammer requires spacing for those who use it. Rating: Comfortable (3)

Killing:

Killing power: A few moves able to kill, however, many are also staple moves that almost always are used to rack up damage, resulting in a lower ability to kill later on in the match. (Eg: b-air) Rating: Average (3)

Gimping potential: Great gimping potential with kirbycides, meteorsmash, and great off-stage game. Rating: Amazing (5)

^^^ Edited to reflect scale. Overall rating: 26.

Hope that gets some discussion going, if some of my facts are wrong, sorry :D

He forgot to mention...zoning and killing are graded on a 5-point scale: Amazing, Above average, Average, Below Average, Terrible

Spacing: Comfortable, bearable, uncomfortable

EDIT: Just ratings, explanations coming later

ZONING
On the ground - below average (2)
In the air - above average (4)
Off-stage - amazing (5)

11 out of 15

SPACING
Extreme long distance - bearable (2)
Long distance - bearable (2)
Medium distance - bearable (2)
Short distance - comfortable (3)

9 out of 12

KILLING
Killing power - average (3)
Gimping potential - amazing (5)

8 out of 10

That gives Kirby 28 out of 37, putting him on par with ROB (and justifying the H2YL tier list placing Kirby above ROB :D)

I might put Kirby down to uncomfortable at medium distance, he gets zoned like mad against characters with range and really wants to get closer. Killing power is arguably above average

ZONING
  • On the ground 2/5: i've seen better ground, like snake, MK, DDD etc. have much greater coverage
  • In the air 4/5: bair, uair both are great, but not all of kirby's arial have as many uses (aka nair)
  • Off-stage 5/5: kirbycides, arials = amazing

SPACING
  • Extreme long distance 2/3: final cutter has its uses and is a progectile, and somecopy abilities
  • Long distance 2/3: see above
  • Medium distance2/3: fsmash, dtilt, dsmash and a few more
  • Short distance 3/3: many of his combo starters are short distance (aka grab)

KILLING
  • Killing power 3/5: kirby has some serous kill moves in the hammer ,fsmash, and dsmash, but some like DDD have waaaaaaaaay more
  • Gimping potential 5/5: just awesome...
my writing in blue; 28/37 in my opinion.
EDIT: I just realized, my rating is EXACTLY the same as MK26's :dizzy:

Actually, Kirby could get 3.5-4/5 in killing power. F-smash, D-smash, and Air Hammer aren't his only options. He also has U-smash, B-air, U-throw, Stone, and Ground Hammer. Even though all of them 'cept the first one are either situational (yet mindgamable), or need higher percent than the other ones. In other words, he has moves that kill early, moves that kill at average damage or a little late, and moves that kill very early but are harder to land.

Well...3 refers to 'Average', and 4 refers to 'above average'. Is Kirby's kill power average, or above average? I'd venture to say merely average. Sure, he doesn't have as much trouble killing as, say Sonic or Jigglypuff...but he's completely outclassed by the heavyweights, several of the middleweights, and the high-tier lightweights MK and G&W.

Average, and therefore 3, seems about right.

^ yup...kirby ranks on the upper middle tier in terms of power...

Wait...What?! Kirby gets outclassed in Kill power by MK? :dizzy:

Last time I checked, MK ranked low tier and relied almost entirely on fast combos to rack up damage for KO's...

Actually, Kirby could be above average in kills. F-smash & U-smash kill around 120% (an estimate), Air Hammer 100%, Stone and Ground Hammer earlier than that. But his killing ability isn't just how early he can kill, it's also how many ways he can lead into his killing moves.

Survivability

Recovery: How easily a character can recover after being knocked away but not killed. This doesn't simply include how far a character can recover from, but also how well they perform in a battle situation.
Staying Power: How easily a character can survive while in his/her/its kill percentages. This not only includes a character's weight/falling speed/etc. but also the options a character can do to prevent himself from being killed by keeping the opponent away or punishing a failed approach.
