When I first played melee I was amazed by every detail, from a cape blowing in the wind to jigglypuff being playable. As I played game more I thought peach could be nearly game breaking if someone figured out how to perfect the float and compared everyone in detail from weight to jump height(before I knew about tournments and stuff).

As I learned I felt it was all about mindgames and went through other thoughts till I recently came to how I see this games as playing to counter them(no real style or long term plan) by means of adapting and getting in their head and to have perfect spacing(main focus) and hit when you can.

Just saw how huge the spacing game was recently and became aware how power it is.

But how do you veiw melee today when you think about it offen?

when i first saw melee i thought woah cool, look at the characters double jumps:awesome: , but seeing it now i think its a lot of mindgames in competetive play, then again i don't play competetively so my opinion may be wrong

I asked for your opinion silly head, no need to worry and make us waste a little more of our time telling us your opinion might be wrong either way you win humble points to spend on ego enhancements.

well that's basically my opinion
aside from thinking the game is great, and feeling a sense of pride in knowing that i understand it better than most
when i think about melee i just think about every way i can/need to improve in, which is how i've always viewed it since i got competitive in it

prior to that i don't remember much of the game, probably wasn't much of a focus in my life until i started getting competitive

It would be pretty follish to believe you truely understand anything which leads you to wonder are you half way there or where as far as the big picture for anything goes. So at least that's one mistake you haven't made

At first I thought the game was hard. Then I realized it was harder. Smash is basically like a Metapod.

I remember when this game came out.

Local tournaments was the hype and people would say its just a game. we will play it then forget about it. Then a decade later you see that amazing set with Armada and Dr.pp. It just goes to show you that Melee isn't what it looks to be. it isn't just the game the developers made.

Melee to di wurl.

5 Years ago I was proud to be one of the three best players in the county.

Now I'm proud to be one of the top 2500 players in the world.

ssbm was the reason I wanted a gamecube.
when I was a little kid my dad brought a ps2 home with ZOE and Jak and Daxter, it was nice, but no where near what I thought would be amazing as Super Mario Sunshine or Super Smash Bros Melee.

As an 7 year old I scavenged every single penny I could find, made sure I got good grades and saved up for a year to buy a gamecube. Not too long after that, it was my 8th birthday, I called my grandma up on the phone asked for Super Smash bros as a birthday gift. and I must say, from the time I first put that disc in, to when I stumbled upon the competitive community in 2008, I've never been disappointed.

fun fact: I wanted to main kirby because I thought it was so cool how he could take other peoples powers and how he could "fly"

once my spacing becomes better i will break teh game and own everybody using dr marios down tilt. its the best move in the game if you have good spacing.

I use my gamecube over my wii just because I like saving that extra minute and a half turning on my wii and navigating a menu, when I can just turn my cube on and get to the point.

When I first bought Melee back in 2000 something, I was interested only in Hyrule Temple and how many different items there were. I mained Kirby and thought that he was one of the characters in the game. I was always intrigued by the quality of the graphics. My friends and I would always joke about how Mario's denims were so nicely done. The screenshot/special mode was also so exciting. An adventure mode? NO WAY!!! There was just so much to casually love about the game; from illegal counter pick stages to broken items to coin battles etc...

Nowadays, I think all matches should be Fox dittos, no items, 4 stocks, 8 minutes, Final Destination. On a more relevant note, I view the game in a more competitive/tactical sense. It's fun having all the items, but I want to play a game to maximize my player utility and that means winning. Winning meant watching old Youtube videos of Ken, Isai, PC Chris, Bombsoldier, Captain Jack, and M2K (and many more '05 peope). I realized that narrowing the game has made it a more fun game.

I was so intrigued by the different options because I know many non competitive people were. Sadly, these are the people who will only be playing the game for a year then quit. By limiting the options to a more competitive view point, I desire to play the game much more. It made me want to become better because being good was more fun.

Melee is still the best game evar.
