If you want to keep your system data, that is the ONLY way. Any other way may cause data loss. If you don't do it this way, your friend code and downloaded games/DLC won't transfer over.

It doesn't work like that. The games you download and your friendcode is tied to the system. If you try transferring directly and you downloaded say Smash or Pokemon, the new system won't let you play the games.

Game downloads and other system data is tied to the hardware. Trust me on this, you have to do system transfer. If there was an easier way, people would do this. You are correct, you copy to the computer, but you have to do it correctly or you'll lock yourself out of games you've downloaded.

No, but enjoy clawing if you don't have Circle Pad Pro. Beyond that, the only benefit is the textures are slightly better and loading times are slightly reduced.
