Homing attack misses on these Characters

I was messing around in training mode and just picked Sonic. Snake was already selected by the CPU.

Went to Battlefield and tried HAing. I missed. Tried again. Missed. And again and again. And missed, twice.

I was like "WTF, so this 'lolmyuptiltisbrokensoismyftilt' character has this advantage over Sonic as well?!".

Well, apparently, yes.

After some testing, I found that:

- Capt. Falcon;
- Pit;
- Snake;
- and Zamus.

All have this "repel shield" for the HA.

Olimar and Jiggs should be mentioned as well because of their small hurtboxes (strangely enough, Meta and Kirby get hit easier than Jiggs), which make them hard to hit.

Well, that's it. If anyone want to try it, pick one of the mentioned characters, go to Battlefield (the easiest setup for testing), drop to the middle of the stage and HA.

For more "fun", put the other char in the mid of the top platform, position yourself in the mid of either of the lower platforms and HA away.

Nintendo still hates Sega. :p

Kudos to jigglypuff-with-guns-avatar guy for the topic title (sorry, was lazy to hit the back button and check your s/n)

yesssssss well i didn't know about the other characters but i was in a small tourney and had just fought a wolf and after i fought a pit and it was horrible cuz i had a bad habit to HA.

well turns out it was extremeellyyy hard to hit bit with the homing attack. and most of the time he'd just suck me in with his blades or hit me i hated it >_< dam wolf....

homing attack has blindspots on all characters. i cant remember exactly, but if you try on FD for example, stand about 2 ftilt ranges away from any character and let HA do a full charge, it will never hit. you gotta remember homing attack has to follow a curve, there will inevitably be lots of different positions relative to sonic where he wont hit since the curve of HA is too great.

trueness above ^^

i had a similar experience, on fd. if i stand in a certain spot, and HA i miss, than i take two steps closer, and do it again and it hits.

also. many characters (i know samus can) can just duck the HA

I know the properties of the HA, okay? I know there are "blindspots" for it and etc.

Have you even tried testing what I mentioned in the OP? The HA acts completely different on those chars (okay, maybe not "completely", but it still acts differently).

Ok I tested this stuff with Snake. Looks like Sonic Homming Attacks over Snake's head and don't hit him if he is standstill... If he is on a platform and you are in a diagonal position with him, you'll miss. HA goes over his head, don't hit, then stops leaving you wide open... If Snake crouch on ground, you'll miss even if he is 2 bodies or so away from you... Weird.

I don't especially mind missing granted I land in front of the person; HA -> bounce -> Fair works from time to time.

I've seen it miss a few times. Plus, even if it does hit, the CPU at times blocks the attack, rendering it useless.

Are we still discussing this?

The attack is designed the way it is because let's face it.... if it went to exactly where the player was standing it would probably miss more. Do you think your opponent is going to be moving around or standing still like in training mode?
