So I figured, might as well make a thread for the handymen/women out there. We all are short on cash and have to fix things in order to save money...

So here's my predicament. Baha and I have a dining room set that I purchased at a garage sale for 15 bucks. Not only that, but the people we got it from bought it at Wal-mart....so basically, pretty poor quality. I reupholstered the chairs, but the table top looks like crap.

Baha and I found a $90 table top at IKEA for 30 bucks in the "as-is" section, it has a couple of nicks in the top of it. It's white laminate, so you can see the wood underneath.

So I'm trying to come up with a clever way to hide these marks. I tried painting it, but you can still see it. Baha is completely against a table cloth (figures, the cheapest way to deal with it and he doesn't like the idea) so I'm thinking something like tiles or laminate flooring to cover it.

Any ideas?

Visiting from above.
If you put the table upside-down, the nicks and scratches would be against the floor, and therefore, unnoticable.

But there are holes in the other side where the legs attach. Baha used his genius mind to come up with that clever idea....until I told him it wouldn't work.

And I tried to take a picture of it, but the camera won't pick it up because it's so white. (That's what she said)

I will never tell. :D
I dunno about your table but if your going for a Large Home Improvement then don't bring your house value up too high because you will eventually have to inability to pay the rent.

You could always steal someone's receipt who bought that exact table and tell Ikea that it came that way. Depends how the scrathes on the table look.

Or, if you dont want to do anything illegal, go with Gamer4Fire's idea. After you paint it, put a gloss over it so it's extra shiny so the marks will be even less noticable.

How about this.

You're the woman so your opinions take priority in the relationship.

Get the table cloth anyway.
Long term relationships usually have equal sides. Although the woman should always be allowed to take charge of the tv remote.

As far as the issue, how bad are the holes? Because they could easily be covered with decorations.

****, didn't see that bit about Baha. But methinks it's going to be either get a new table, havea table with holes, or have a table with holes covered by a tablecloth.

Yeah, we're pretty equal when it comes to this kind of stuff. I've got the fashion and designer skillz, but Baha has veto power. And we don't have the remote problem, cause neither of us watch TV. And if we do, we usually want to watch the same thing. But we only have like 6 channels, so we don't have much of a choice. LOL

I think our hole problem is fixed now. The place mats are working pretty well.
I've got some new problems that have come up recently. Our tub's top drain (the one that catches the water before the tub over-flows) has rust. I unscrewed the top part and found an amazing amount. I'm letting the apartment peeps fix that though, because I don't even know how to approach that.
