Has it been verified that... hm...

I began Dairing facing away from the edge... and it seems that spacing becomes less of an issue, and if (without invincibilty frames) a character is adjacent to you (opposite of the original direction Marth faced) it's instant spike. and there is no spacing involved? or am I just being lucky...

like... eh...

As in... for instance, FD: your on the right edge, facing left. you dair and your sword protrudes right. and if a character touches your sword where ever. it's instant spike?

do you get what I mean?

So... Are you asking whether the backside of the d-air swing has spiking capabilities instead of only the currently believed sweetspot which is straight down? Not sure. I'll test tomorrow

The backswing of the Dair is much larger then the forward/down way. All you have to do is tipper and they will be sent straight down. You can even tipper with the wayyy end of the dair in the back.

Backwards is easier.

What I mean is even if it connects sloppy, all you need is to tipper and itll still spike. Practice on level 1 cpu's or so.

The tip hitbox on the back of the sword is larger and it goes in the big arc behind you giving a lot more room for error. Its also easy to space if you bair before hand to turn around

The biggest mistake with the dair is that people dont tip. As long as you tip it will spike.

Yes you're pretty right. Obviously you have to tip regardless of what direction but I would say it's much easier facing away from your opponent. The spike then initiates from when Marth's sword is extended fully downward until it's all the way to his left. Anywhere in between those points will spike. This makes it easy to do things like edgehogging and then dropping off>double jump>spike if your opponent is below or next to you. If you try to spike facing your opponent then it' easiest to get them on the downward motion right BEFORE his sword is extended fully downward. It's waaaay different from a Marth spike in Melee but once you get the spacing right it's not hard. Practice on low level CPU's.

yes, you must sweetspot the dair, it is just wayyy easier if you are facing backwards, but it is still possible to miss. The tip hitbox on the back of the sword is larger and it goes in the big arc behind you giving a lot more room for error. bair's make it easier to do by turning you around for spacing. even if the connection is sloppy, it will still spike them with the tip. practice on level 1's or so. it's waay different from a marth spike in melee but once you get the spacing rights it's not hard.

Am I seeing doubles? I agree that the dair spike is executed more easily if you are hanging from the edge, push away and DJ into a dair with the back. It is not an guranteed, one must still connect with the tip, howwever the arc is much larger.

the backside def has a greater hitbox for the tipper, but i would really try and master the very front side, because it allows a much more fast spike. i can even sometimes hit my opponent across the entire stage and just run, short hop, instant dair, spike. really it depends on the situation, just i think the front side will mainly be used in any combos.
