this here is a place of elitists... so be wary of asking questions.

uh. Read threads first. I'll add links later if you need them.

But... read the one Colaya gave... it'll be most of everything you need to need. Watch videos of good players such as Vietgeek, Roy R, Neo... just surf the video thread.

If you have any specific question, Dan/Pierce7d made a Q and A thread. Ask it their. The community will try to help you. if not attack your ignorance and such.

Truth. Myself included. But you're new so I can't very well blame you for it. =]

Firstly, welcome to smash boards.
Secondly, welcome to the marth boards.

As it has already been said, colaya, use that link to read up on marth. I highly recommend you take in as much as you can before asking questions. The general policy that makes us termed "elitists" is if we think it's a question that you obviously could have found the answer to yourself by either thinking about it slightly or using the search function, expect to be ridiculed. But honestly, it's not too hard. Honestly, take this advice to heart, but substitute youtube with smash boards....and don't be the guy in the comic.

Anyways, Piece7d has an amazingly awesome thread. It's called the ask a quick question thread. This is where you go FIRST when you have something that you think might result in some ridicule. We are MUCH more lenient when it comes to posting there because that's what the thread is for. Quick questions and quick answers.

So overview:
1) Post smart and THINK about your posts
2) Use the search function
3) Don't complain about Marth's weaknesses. You will be redirected to the meta knight boards(god tier in case you didn't know), and questioned why you play marth. Most likely by Emblem Lord since he likes to be a bit more blatant about it.
4) Welcome to smash boards. And welcome to the marth boards.

Too true. I'm can't speak for everyone, but I can speak for myself and say I'm really not elitist at all. We here on the Marth boards are often sarcastic to keep our spirits high because we get a lot of really redundant questions, which are created in new threads, which clog up the page and make it harder for people to find the good information, which creates more redundant questions, and it goes on in a cycle. Remember, if you're posting a question, you're asking someone to do you a favor by answering it to help you (it's not like we get paid to help you become a better Marth player).

We ENJOY helping you become a better player, but meet us half way, don't frustrate us by asking stuff that's pretty accessible that we've already answered, and don't clog up our boards with useless threads. Also, don't give out false information, because then we have to make corrections. Is that really asking so much? Think about it, you'd be frustrated too if you were trying to keep a community well informed and people kept asking questions for which the answers were already posted and easily accessible.

We're mostly friends in here, and we want to help you. Welcome to the Marth boards!

I wish people would stop asking questions on elite boards. Its just because I hate to see n00bs get flamed like that.... :/ oh well what are you gonna do. As long as forums are up and running it will happen til the end of time. But welcome to the Marth boards! If you need help next time just use the search function or ask me in a PM, I dont mind so much...

Quit stealing my ****ing name. Srsly.

In any case, spacing is key. Make sure you can hit fairs while staying out of grab range, and dtilt is a great way to limit the other person's options. This is all covered in detail in other threads though.

Haha... kinda. My name is chris, but the melee thing only took 4 letters, so i shortened it, and my 13 year friends all laughed at how funny we were. Then i just kept using it.
