Just practice. If you keep on practcing and still can't use Ike, than he isn't a good character for you.

You're too sloooooow~~~

If Ike was fast, as his problems would be over, lawl.

1st off, learn to fair correcting and to abuse the IASA frames to jab.
2nd learn to love nair, for it auto cancels, and its Ike's only true combo to either jab, bair, or grab.
3rd, never use forward smash until you are good with Ike. Its a mind game for moderate Ikes, not starting out ones, so rely on tilts for kills.
4th. You'll need to learn to use bair. OoS do a SH bair. And RAR bair. Run off bair from platforms.
5th. QD can be used, but its a moderately skilled Ike tactic, newbies should concentrate on Nair, Fair, jab, grab, and bair usage.
6th. basic Jab combos: Jab cancel to jab, grab, tilts, or down smash.
7th. Recovery is one of Ike's bad points, so Learn to one peak aether (Having the tip of aether at the ledge), also learn to predict how the opponent plans to edge guard you. Keep in mind, QD isn't great to recovery with unless its a good mind game.
8th. Do not use dair when coming down, you'll get punished easily. In fact, avoid ALL unessessary laggy moves. Use a quicker move when you have a choice.
9th. Nair, Nair, Nair, does wonders against air dodgers and great for chasing rollers.

Try to work on those 9 things.

Ussi's list, plus this
#10 - Ike is great at edgeguarding. Super armor, lots of spikes, lots of range, etc. Find edgeguard tactics you like. My personal favorites are Aether and Eruption SA.

You CANNOT attack a good player. You have to punish him, or if anything jab and use aerials on him. Do not become an F-Smash spammer, they miss and when they miss the enemy has an eternity to do anything they want. Use, as said above, spot dodge to get in positions and trick them by deregulating your jabs like 1,12,12,1,1,123,... etc. Learn Back Air, it is the most helpful when fighting a retreating enemy. Also learn Retreating Forward Air, to get your opponent while he is coming toward you and while you are retreating. Also utilize neutral air and down air, down to gimp and neutral to hit a questionable target with certainty. You will fail if you use smashes with abundancy. Use this grasshopper, and practice.
