I'm pretty new to MK and I've been practicing for a few days now.

It seems that I keep killing myself with a MK...

I think I'm Shuttle Looping too much or something.

Should it be used often? I keep trying to pressure people with it on the edges.

Hi there. Well I'm fairly experienced with MK so I can tell you know what you might be doing wrong. Well firstly I must say that the Shuttle Loop is not the best and only attack that Meta Knight has. To pressure people with it on the edges there are certain aspects you must be notified of. Firstly when enemies are at the edges they have about one second of invincibility and you can see they are glowing white when they are invincible there. At the moment you must NOT shuttle loop. You'll go straight through them and will have absolutely no chance to recover. At that moment recommended actions to take are to jump towards them (using the multiple jump) and if by the time you get closer to your opponent its invincibility goes you may shuttle loop him/her and will hit the wall (or lip) of the stage and the higher the percentage the faster they'll drop. You'll also have recovered. However it is more unreliable to use the Shuttle loop there because better players will not edgehog (stay the edge to prevent your recovery) but will come and attack you and then recover. If you want to the recover most often the best positions cause the side-B (drill rush) to be the best recovery move. You will attack oncoming enemies and cannot get killed easily during the action. Plus you will travel very far. It is a reliable way of recovery. Note you can tilt the drilling upwards or downwards. Using the shuttle loop will not always get you high enough to recover and will just keep gliding to your death. I think you're dying too much with Mk because you're using the shuttle loop at the wrong place and at the wrong time. Look for when you're opponent is vulnerable to attacks and check that you're at maximum three Meta Knights away from the stage and at maximum one Meta Knight below the stage. However if you are in a stock brawl and your opponent has only one stock left, a risky yet very effectively to clean out the stock from your opponent is to continual aerial attack them out of the stage and then while they're expecting another aerial attack from you... shuttle loop them! If you have taken them far close to the edge of the stage (the KO zone) and have a damage percentage higher than about 40% then Shuttle Loop there will just leave them mercilessly dead. However with this you won't be able to recover at all (honestly) so it is highly recommended that you interpret the best time to shuttle loop them before they dodge and you are left to die.

Well I hope I answered your question. If you have any more questions I can help you comprehensively.

Thanks

HD

That goes away with practice. The first week I was playing MK I suicided a lot, but it went away fast.

Also, HD, learn to use paragraphs please. Your post hurts my eyes.

As a character, MK has very little tactical depth and is easy to learn. That being said, the chief aspect to learn about him is saving yourself from a suicide. Never use a special off of the ledge unless you know you'll be able to reach the platform afterwards. Don't do a shuttle loop offstage unless you know that your opponent is perfectly lined up for it. On the ground, Mach Tornado --> Shuttle Loop ALWAYS works. There are many other awesome edgeguarding techs on the guides on this board. Learn to glide properly, and above all...PRACTICE!

Kids kids you're both wrong.

The only tactical characters in the game are Snake and Olimar.

Kidding aside, all characters require a sense of strategy to play. Some just have a higher learning curve than others.

I've been playing Meta Knight for about a month and I still have trouble with the following.

Knowing when to Drill Rush rather than Shuttle Loop to recover
I'm terrible at gliding
I kill myself when I Shuttle Loop people

When you need to get back to the stage fast and you don't have time to glide there. It's also his best vertical recovery (surprisingly) so you should also use it when you're way under the stage and you probably won't make it back up with Shuttle Loop.

I'm terrible at gliding
Practice. One good (but impractical) way to practice gliding is to start at the top left corner of Hyrule Temple and try to get to the far right side without touching the ground by going through the "hole" on the lower part. Or you could just glide under FD, Battlefield and Smashville lol (Smashville would be the easiest of the three).

I kill myself when I Shuttle Loop people
Practice reverse shuttle looping.

Your gliding exercises have helped me out, I'm already starting to see improvement.

Now to practice reverse shuttle looping!

lol my friend. Thank you for addressing me correctly and I sincerely apologise. I do know how to use paragraphs but it was obvious at the time that I was too busy brain-storming that I couldn't use the sense of paragraphing. Once again, my apologies
