Hey guys, i was playing my friend last night, and I could beat all of her mains except one, Sonic. it's hard to rack up damage when i cant even hit him, also most of Lucas' smashes are slow, making it really easy for her to dodge. Do you have any advice for me? Thanks!

Sonic a woman? :O
Just PK Fire spam, that's all I get from Lucas mains when playing as Sonic ¬_¬
I wish I could be more helpful, but that's literally their only tactic.

^he's talking about his female friend, who's using Sonic. :l

but spamming PK fire is stupid and avoidable/pshieldable/shield/jump/airdodge/blahblahblahslowprojectile

If your friend is any good and actually does things like punish your landing lag, rolls, and etc, then avoid the situation of rolling by jumping WOP style and keeping out an attack aura with your aerials `.`;

Stay with a shorthop aerial game- shorthop often and avoid being on the ground. Lucas' aerials when timed correctly are a tough wall to beat as Sonic.

Basically, there are some things that make Sonic punishable/predictable: Dsmash, Usmash, Spring>D-air, Homing Attack. You can probably shield and punish a Dsmash, walk away and smash a Usmash, grab/smash/aerial before a D-air lands on the floor, and walk away+punish Homing Attack's landing lag.

If she's being annoying and running to the opposite side of the level every time, then I'm sorry for you `.`;

Ancient Japanese Proverb Say:

USE THE DOWN SMASH

But seriously, it's a good move against Sonic. It sounds like this person likes to rush you, so using Lucas's downsmash as she's coming toward you should interrupt that. The attack lingers, so it's pretty easy to hit with. Hope that helps! :chuckle:

If you're trying to fight sonic with smashes, it's generally a bad idea unless your timing is clear and the sonic is mildly ********.

stick to aerials, tilts, and lucas' amazing jab combo.

and yes, PK fire can slow sonic down. significantly. but i wouldn't rely on it.

like neon said, the lingering down smash can be good for tricks. if you need a kill on sonic though, i would either use the f smash (since it's way faster than the others), punish sonic's dair's forced momentum (when it's used) with a well timed up smash, or use the bair spike

lol

So, the Sonic runs at you, you charge dsmash, and Sonic uses screech stop/side-B cancel in front of you. Congratulations, you win a fsmash to the face!

So, the Sonic charges down-B and you prepare a dsmash! Sonic jumps above you before the dsmash comes out. Congratulations, you win a B-air to the back of the head!

quit trying to strawman, my strawman will beat you.

agreed.

SWF members seem to lack matchup experience fighting against Sonic. Ness boards especially (lol@ side taunt = invincibility frames thread, and also that one thread where a certain Ness main said that Sonic has no mindgames and was in for a large surprise when we had a match)

What the heck is strawman...?

Anyway, I never said charge downsmash. That would be telegraphing. I just meant C-stick it every now and then to disrupt Sonic's speed.

Unless you dislike the C-stick... :urg:

When you use a pathetic example of the other side to support your argument.

`.`; for example, you correctly caught how I threw in that you 'charge' the dsmash, which was the element that made it a bad example. However, actual Sonic mains tend to be wary of their opponents' range and won't run right into you without feinting, being ready to shield, or something, since his priority doesn't allow for sloppy crap like running into a high priority move. "You might as well be charging it for all I know, because I'm expecting it to happen."

Anyway, if it worked once, it probably wouldn't work another time if the Sonic player isn't being dumb.

I know. I should stop trying to make funnies.

Spamming PK Fire is stupid because I always win. Other things they do which you should avoid is using smashes unless you know they're going to hit. Seriously, all of Sonic's approaches are cancellable. Smash recklessly and you'll get punished for it.
For some reason they go for the spike as well when I'm offstage. I know he has two spikes (Dair and Bair?) but Sonic has multiple and pretty safe ways of recovering, so following a Sonic offstage will probably put you in a disadvantageous position.
Short hopped aerials and tilts seem to bugger me up. :\

Agreed.
Charging any kind of smash against a char as fast as sonic is begging for punishment

PK fire is not meant to be spammed or to stop sonic. Sonic is too mobile to stop with that. It is meant to slow him down a little bit and for lucas to retreat/space away from the amazing speed. Anyone spamming PK fire without mercy is goin to get *****.

What can i say: high risk high reward.
But anyone trying to use dair spike on sonic is a fool.
Bair is powerful enough to be acceptable

f-tilt will kill sonic's range, and jab will kill sonic's speed.
stick to those.

if you're lucky you can even punish his few laggy moves with a nice grab

Although I have somehow never faced a human sonic, I'd think projectiles would be your best friend against him.

PKSpam is not that great vs sonic
the first pk fire will hit, the sencond pk fired will be dodged, and when you are about to use the third pk fire, sonic will be in front of you and punish
