Hey guys, I've been going through a lot the last few months and kinda been in a funk. Smash has kinda been outlet in which I can just chill and be out of the house.

Anyway, I've had some complications and can't go to school this quarter. I've also been thinking about switching majors since I'm starting to think that Culinary is not the right path for me. However, I do have a job and I've requested more hours. I'm kind of a afraid I won't be getting the hours I'd want (which is like 30-35ish). I don't really want to pick up a second job and I've wanted to take this time to be young and adventurous. Hopefully I'll find something I enjoy..

That's why I ask you guys, the pool room, what can I do? What do you like?

Fun hobbies?
Inexpensive destinations?
Nifty ideas?
Career recommendations?
How do you guys get out of funks?

A little bit about myself to give you an idea for what I could possibly like:
- I'm a pretty social person, unless I'm like.. high.
- I play guitar, and recently picked up harmonica.
- I used to be active. I was in muay thai classes and working out a good deal. I'll probably be working out more this quarter. Any good work out routines you guys love?
- I used to skateboard a lot, but over the years I've kinda lost interest
- I love travelling, especially for Smash
- I like being out in public and I enjoy the outdoors (its too cold though)
- I'm not a huge gamer, I only play my DS on trips or if I'm really bored, and the only game I play a lot is smash. I'll kinda play Call of duty like every two days.

I work tomorrow, and then i have to wait till saturday. I have a ton of free time so anything to do during the week would be great. I plan on waking up earlyish just so I don't feel like I've wasted an entire day. I just recently had a relationship end "for real" and I've been really bummed so I'm trying to keep busy. All my friends have classes during the day btw.

If you're going to have a lot of free time to yourself (and don't mind being alone), I would suggest writing. You sound like a person who likes to have alot of people around, so it might not be the best suggestion for you honestly, but try it out. You might find that you like it.

Just make sure you don't write while high.

Don't be like Towelie.

/silliness

As for an actual suggestion, how about becoming a musician? You'll need to do plenty of travelling to make a name for yourself (go to concerts, go on the road), so that fits in with that. You'll meet and talk to plenty of people, and will need to deal with all sorts of folk, so that meets the social aspect. You can even form a band, so you can be in a social environment even when not performing for people.

Of course, it all comes down to whether or not you feel you are good enough at playing to be successful, and whether you think you have the musical ability to write your own songs and lyrics (Jam's suggestion ties in with this :p).

I do enjoy time to myself, but i felt like i spent so much time to myself last quarter since i had class early in the morning and work until close. I would really only go out during the weekends then. Anyway, It's inevitable for me to have time to myself though. I used to write poetry (lawlz) and songs when I was younger, but it was always cliched or just plain bad. What type of writing would you suggest? I do enjoy being creative though.

Yes, I like having a lot of people around, it's somewhat comforting unless I find them arrogant or dumb. I will start though. The only problem is that my vocabulary isn't great and I'm not that articulate.

Just make sure you don't write while high.

lol. I used to write my papers for class high. I'd always do well. That was the only time I could be somewhat articulate.

I'd also like to add that I enjoy being artistic and try to have an open-mind. I used to enjoy drawing and such when I was younger, I just kinda fell out of it though. Perhaps I should try this?

Thanks for the feedback guys. I'm about to go to work so I'll check back later tonight!

Well, I'm the type of person who prefers time to myself, which is why I enjoy writing so much. I'm alone at my job alot, so it gives me plenty of time.

As for what kind of writing, that's entirely up to you and what you like. I write short stories because that's what I like. Don't worry so much about your poetry or writing being cliche, because we all have to start somewhere. Getting your thoughts down on paper is the most important part; you can spend forever editing your writing to make it better, but you actually have to write it first.

if you want to go somewhere cool. it will be a long road trip and i bet you have never been there,

go to Zions National Park here in Utah. right now might be an ok time. you would be able to go up the canyon and a few hikes.

then you could go chill with xsyven and me down in southern utah

Hmm.. since you like the outdoors so much why don't you go out to your nearest park and do some exercises such as jogging, running, walking , etc.. personally I love to bike ride, it always soathes my mind away from my problems, plus it's good exercise.

Or you could always give skateboarding another chance, who knows, you might actually find interest within it once again and you'll actually get better at it.

Jamstunna: I'll definitely pick up writing, who knows, I might actually pretty good.

Slave1: I'll put that on a list of future destinations. I don't want to travel too far by myself in the middle of winter lol

Omegakoopa: The problem with going outdoors right now, is that it's super cold and snowy : / Perhaps in the spring. I might try running in the snow or something.

Ryan: Been there done that. lol jk. anddd no

Jerm: I don't know, I've just kinda lost interest in skateboarding. I only skate when I have friends to do it with, and since I moved into an entirely different city, it's kinda hard to find someone to skate with. I only have one friend up here that I know skates, but he kinda quit.

Thanks for the feedback guys!! keep em coming

Stay away from chemicals and intoxicants for a while as they tend to be bad on your mental state in the long run.

What I do when I have a lot of time is immerse myself in games or a really good TV show (usually an anime, although I am very picky)

Or I start working out more and play sports, mostly tennis and soccer, whenever I can.

Find something you like, a long term project you might have whether it be writing a book... finishing a song... or painting on a canvas...

Anything and try to get it done.

If what is hurting you is your breakup get rid of anything (or hide it out of sight) that may remind you of her. Leave her out of your day-to-day thoughts and focus on positive stuff that will help you deal with the fact that she is gone, but there will be better for you.

I understand you told us a great deal, but can you pinpoint mostly what your "funk" or slight depression is mostly focused on what cause?

Edit: also why do you refer to yourself as inarticulate?

Are you foreign?

Your location says you're in C-bus. Do you go to OSU by chance?

Also, do you like camping or doing anything out doors? If so kentucky has a few nice places to go hiking, white water rafting, and rock climbing and it's fairly inexpensive too. If you want to get out of your area you could also consider visiting chicago or indianapolis. Seriously, indy actually has some fun stuff to do if you're willing to drive a little bit. One last thing, if you like traveling for smash you should check out COT4 in the tournaments page. It's out here in philly and it's from feb 7-8 if you're interested.

That's about all I can think of right now. Usually when I'm in a weird funk I make an appointment with my psychologist, go swim laps, pick up a book (anything that's not related to what I'm doing in school, even text books), or just mess around on my piano/clarinet. Oh yeah, and I blog. My english teacher told me to start blogging last semester when I was really down and depressed. Blogging is a great way to work things out in your head. Don't worry about it being trashy or really emo. Just get it out of your system.

Think of a a blog as an internet journal. You can either have a website like blogspot host it or get your own domain. It's just webspace for you to write about your self or things you're doing. I personally use facebook notes because I want people to be able to read what i'm thinking at the moment. I think it helps keep me more connected to people and it keeps me a bit more grounded. If I know other people are going to read what I have to say I tend to think it over more carefully. Sometimes I don't but for the most part it helps me work things out on my own before I post it. I'm really picky about who I accept as a facebook friend too so I'm not worried about who see it. My life is an open book for people to read.

Vorguen: I played a lot of smash last week lol. I got kinda sick of it and need like a two day break. I need a new game that can keep my interest. Call of Duty WaW sucks lol. I've been watching my favorite show (arrested development) since it's too funny and cheers me up a bit. And no, I'm not foreign. I mean I'm asian, but I was born in america. I guess I'm articulate, I just compare myself to some of my friends who IMO are geniuses when it comes to writing. They're also super pretentious.

Takumaru: Nah I'm not going to OSU, but Columbus state which is like 8 minutes away : p I do love camping and the out doors, it's just unfortunate since it's winter. As for COT4, I plan on going to it, I just have to request off work. I also have a blog that I've been writing in lately. I usually just write in it when I'm feeling confused or down. It's nice cause I don't feel comfortable opening up to other people like that snice I'm afraid they're going to judge me and see me differently.

Do you like RPG's? Pick up a Final Fantasy that will keep you occupied long enough. haha

If you like other story-based games pick up maybe a Zelda game instead or something. You can try the old school ones if you never played them get a ROM and an emulator for Link to the Past for Super Nintendo or something.

Video game players telling a video game player to play more video games?

Rediculous.

Do what you enjoy, for me that's DDR/Brawl/FPS's on steam (TF2/CS:S/L4D)
