So I was wondering how to get from Japan to California without flying. I asked Google Maps.

I apparently have to drive to Canada, then Kayak 3,879 miles.

No problem.

Sorry but, swimming across the Pacific Ocean>kayaking the Pacific Ocean.
Put in From: China To: Taiwan and check step 55.
Edit: if you put in From: China To: Japan it says on step 42 to jet ski across the Pacific Ocean, also.

If you swim, make sure you jump out of the water every few seconds. Otherwise you'll drown ;)

Because you told it to avoid flying :p
I suppose if you wanted a really hardcore trip, you could unicycle... I mean I can hit 3 miles before needing a break- imagine a whole cross-continent ordeal XD

The only thing you should be googling about Japan is Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

Not true at all. Not sure where you got that funny idea. :p

Anyways.... anyone else know why google gives you a random-way-to-travel water? :s Seems pretty fail for directions..... even mapquest isn't that bad (AFAIK)

Seriously? I know most board-communities manage to give some slight impunity to rules and such... Maybe not this one? o.O

I'm guessing it's a type of joke for people curious enough to request crossing the sea without flying XD I mean, Google is also the company that made the "recursive loop".

And they pretty much own the Internet... So they can get away with whatever :p

No, I'm not immune to rules, far from it.

This isn't even on topic.

What I find funny is how SuSa gets booted from SS for trolling, then goes around and starts trololololing all over the board and OH WAIT LOOK WHAT HE'S DOING HERE WITH HIS REACTION TO MY POST.

Unfortunately for you guys, what I posted was entirely vague, there isn't even any context behind it for you to infer anything. Was I saying we should nuke Japan or that it's something important that you need to really know about?

All profound questions, all of which come up with the answer that I'm one step ahead of all of you.

Ooh, I did not know this.... On the other hand, at least it was in the User Blog and not some other totally off-topic board...

Smart :p But the combination of two such places that share such characteristics as being
1. The victim of a nuclear bombing
and
2. Easily recognizable as such in a variety of social classes
would merit the perceived implication that you were trying to make a trollesque statement.

On the other hand, I never claimed you did anything wrong :p Just stated that I thought that you'd have a little bit more cushion for rule-bending. I concede on that point though, lol

Because researching and learning about Japanese culture is entirely useless.

The only thing that matters in their culture was the fact they were bombed. Right?

I got kicked from the SS for being a rude *******. One who wasn't even entirely in the wrong. Private messages? It is only assumed that the message is private, due to it's name. It's an unspoken agreement between the two. You know what I saw in the SS before leaving? Multiple quotes of PM's - where no permission to post it, using it as evidence, was given.

Don't bring the SS into this. Keep it on topic:

Google maps likes to troll people traveling overseas..

You're a mod. I expect you can at least do that. Right?

I know about the jet ski - and the swimming.

But do you realize it's having me drive to Canada before I begin kayaking?

WHYYY GOOGLE? WHYYYY!!!
Its because lots of chinese go to canada because immigration is a lot less strict there, and then a generation later go to the US for school or W/E
cause Canada->US is way easier tahn China->US immigration wise

Well considering you took it off topic by pointing the finger aggressively I think I'm perfectly entitled to make a little rebuttal, preserving my own integrity goes outside the bounds of topic direction. Besides my country wasn't the one that bombed Japan so hey no residual guilt yay.

But on the topic of Google maps, it's software and software always has limitations. It doesn't take a lot of parameters into account, it just provides the best method from what it's given for its calculations. That's not called trolling, because it isn't trying to intentionally rile you up.

In the case of Google, it's a form a joking. They've done it in the past. The masterminds that work in the Google complex could very well fine-tune this adaptive software to say whatever type of gibberish they wanted. They've done it MANY times before, and the back-linking, commuting, and general control over the direction of all internet traffic gives them the power to do whatever they please.

That, and they have a good sense of humor. Check it

Notice how I didn't aggressively point a finger. I told you that's ****ed up, why? Because it is.

Want me to point a finger?

Teran, you're a douche.

Yah, it wasn't even my generation. So no guilt. Yay.

So.... why not stick to one method? Why kayak? Why jet ski? Why swim?

Could just say find a way across the ocean. :awesome:

EDIT:

Grump solved it.

Google has an awesome sense of humor.
YouTube

On April 1, 2008, all featured videos on the UK and Australian homepages, and later, all international homepages, of Google-owned YouTube linked to a video of Rick Astley's song "Never Gonna Give You Up", causing all users of the website who clicked on featured videos to be Rickrolled. This was the first year YouTube participated in Google's April Fool's Day tradition.

That's not finger pointing, that's just flaming. :teranchu: <-- Look it's based on me how cute

Notice the use of the word residual.

So.... why not stick to one method? Why kayak? Why jet ski? Why swim?
It's cheaper than jetski (not to mention jetski wouldn't have enough fuel), and faster than swimming. :denzel:

England is America's ally. You are guilty by association.

And back in my day, kayaking was the only way to get to Japan. Had we known the new generation was going to be such ****ies, we woulda never invented the aeroplane.

Ummm because blogs are very open ended, that's why?

I would explain again about the nature of blogs, but after modding it for over a year and having to explan it right now to an 08er, I think I'd rather shoot myself through the testicle with a nailgun.

people asking for directions for cross-continental trips on Google Maps are silly. thus, Google gives them silly answers.

end of thread?
