Question. When are tournies/smashfests going on these days? Saturdays still? I'm looking to get back into coming out, but I can't really switch up my work schedule for saturday until this semester ends.

Salutations, I recently moved from Puerto Rico to Columbus and someone directed me to this thread, hoping I can find someone to smash with the area, I mainly play Melee, but would love to practice Project M as well. I'm going to be reading over this thread in hopes to find information on the scene over here. Hope to meet some of you sometime!.

I think I saw you post in GA Melee already -- I hope you've found some folks by now, but if I'm just imagining things, definitely look for GA Melee or Georgia Project M on Facebook!

Anyone near Dallas/Paulding county willing to take a big dummy under their wing? I'm casual scum from the Brawlverse who wants to get into PM, but I lack three things: A setup (likely to change), the funds to travel long distances for smashing (less likely to change) and friends who play PM (the reason I'm here). Real pain in the butt.

Hello. I live in Athens and play 64 pretty exclusively. I hang out at Wonderbar a lot, which is a bar on East Washington that has a 64 with smash bros, golden eye, and mario kart. If you like any of those games you should try hanging out there. If you see a skinny guy with a beard and shabby clothes jumping up and down while they play and challenging people to 2v1s for free drinks, that's me. My name's Wyatt.

I'm obsessed with Smash 64 and have been speed running it for the past few months. I'm thinking about organizing a 64 tournament in Athens but it's a little complicated because I am in a band and run a record label and there's always way too much on my plate. However, if any of you Georgia smashers would be into coming to Athens for a tournament let me know, as this will definitely influence when or if I set one up.

I will say though: I hate APEX rules. I hate when people only want to play with the items off and refuse to play on half the stages. It just seems to me that the more variety and unpredictability there is the more it rewards creativity and quick thinking, versus super fast tech skills and a narrower range of characters. Not to say that players like Isai and Superboomfan aren't really incredible to watch but I think for the average viewer and for more casual players it just creates a more varied, entertaining, and level playing field experience. But that's just my two cents. I'm always into doing whatever makes the most people happy.

The first tourney I do in Athens will probably be a one night event at a bar downtown so it will probably have to be fairly condensed and limited to like 20 entrants or something. So it'll probably mainly be local players but it's probably a good place to start. If anybody in the area wants to give input and help organize something, hit me up. Tom from Go Bar is a friend of mine and I can talk to him about it at my birthday party next week.

Really thinking about getting into Project M. Brawl was too slow for me so I never kept playing but just heard about PM and it's really caught my interest.
Is there a group somewhere around Georgia Tech? That's where I go to school and it'd be easy for me to meet up with them, if not then Atlanta in general is fine.

People meet up and play in the Klaus Computing Building...thing...every Friday night, actually.

Yeah, I haven't seen Cute Cats or Technique in the Tournament Listings recently. Like bright said is there a schedule for the GTech Smash events? I know they are supposed to be bi-weekly I believe.

They're typically visible on Facebook; while I understand that a lot of people avoid Facebook like it's some kind of plague, I also know a few people that have a Facebook that is 100% only for Smash.

Resistance is futile.


I'm just going to assume you don't have to go to GTech do participate in the smashing? Also do you have like exact times this stuff goes down?

You don't have to - just join the Georgia Melee page or the Georgia Project M page, depending on which game(s) you're interested in -- there are also little smashfests and less big events that you're going to consistently miss out on because you refuse to utilize Facebook.

If you only want to attend larger events, then hopefully you check Smashboards often, because the reality is that you get significantly less frequent info, here, as well as way less exposure to players in general.

So the GT melee group plays melee and a little PM on Fridays at 8pm in the Klaus building. Room number changes because they're not always available, but they say the group leader usually posts what room they're gonna be playing in. Again, they said mostly melee but usally have at least 1 Project M setup.

Techniques have been unable to be bi-weekly due to the TO being swamped with finals

We generally try to keep things cross posted, but so few of us who are actively involved in the community even open smashboards on a monthly basis.

I'll try to keep it updated but this is pretty much an incredibly outdated resource in all ways =/
I'm also not in charge of this thread and i don't have editor rights so the best i can do is cross post our cover photo + copy paste the event info every once in a while.

you can make a facebook account purely for smash and use it for nothing else. it's kind of what we used to do on smashboards XD
