Calibur Champ, as you probably saw from Kubuu's vids, going under FD was not a joke. Having it win the game against a Marth was. That's what I was referring to.

The GERM, those are awesome tactics, I'm gonna incorporate them into my playing style (well, if I get to play against a decent Samus anytime soon).

Chaoser!!! I remember you. Did you get banned? What's with the new name?

Not too many new Link vids, Garde has a bunch on his site, and if you get the DC++ thing, you'll be seeing a bunch of Link vids.

Hey garde, Do you have an AIM account. If you don't want everyone to know or something, just PM me alright. I have a nice vid of me vs. my friend Trebor(ZelgadisQmega), Link vs. Falcon.

Im not too sure but I think Links hookshot is a spike. Im not able to try this out yet because of me being grounded.

Okay lets say for an example, Roy knocks Link off FD, Link trys to recover with hookshot, Roy is coming in for the spike, Link then shoots his hookshot to the wall but it also hits Roys head. Roy then gets spiked. I say this because it worked for me with Samus when I was playin a Roy. But Ive been just very curious if it works for Link, unfortunately I cant do it it because of me being grounded. BTW the Samus Grapple Beam spike is recorded on my crew members video tape. Im not sure when he will have it up though.

I just want to say thank you for taking the time and doing this guide. I just read it for the first time, and wow.

The tricks section should definitely be read by all players.

I don't think that Link's air hookshot works as a spike like Samus's Grappling beam can be, because the hookshot seems to just knock your opponent backwards (I may be wrong, as I haven't hit an opponent in the air from every single angle). Anyway, it shouldn't be purposely used as a spike, anyway, because changing when and how you use the hookshot or grappling beam can make you miss the edge and put you either in a bad spot or a non-grappleable (word?) spot, which makes you worse off than a normal hookshot/grappling beam would put you.

Does anyone suicide spike with Link. Well I really shouldn't call it a "spike" because it's not really "spike", but it should be and it kinda works, I guess, but some people would call it dumb, some would call it risky, and others, a good edge-guard tactic. What you do is: when you knock somebody off the edge, get as close as you can to the edge and turn your back to your opponent, so when the opponent gets close, you can jump off the edge and do an air-down+A on his head. The reason you turn your back is so just incase you miss, or he dodges, you'll be facing the stage and you can button mash and do a quick jump, to an up-air dodge, to a hookshot to get back on. hehe, it's pretty dumb I know, but it works. This basically only works on FD because there is no way you're getting back on without a hookshot, unless you button mash the whole way down and hit them but you don't want to take a chance now do-ya.

Yo, you and I think MAD alike GERM. That tactic has seen mad playtime in my game. As a safety measure though, try to Z drop a bomb before you go off the edge so that you can bounce off it if you miss OR jump high enough off the stage so that you come out of your stab just in time in case you miss. But yeah man, hopping off the stage to go in for a down stab is fresh. Another thing you can do is the bomb drop + fadeaway forward+A in the air. The bomb brings em up, and the forward+A knocks em away.

Man, too bad you live all the way in brooklyn. It would be crazy fun to have a ditto with you. It'd be like playing myself in a way. I always wondered what would happen if I cloned myself and played my clone in a Link ditto, I think playing you would be the closest thing. I have a lot of weird s%#t up my sleeve though, but I'm sure you do too. Though we have a lot of the same strategies, I'm sure that our styles are different in how we use them, as well as strategies we'd rather keep to ourselves. If you plan on going to TG6, I'll be happy to show you my Link.

Awesome Garde. Very nice. I have all those videos you have on you site, and when I watch them now (after having read the guide) I can see your practical application of combo's and such. It is good to see you practice what you preach. Some don't, but you have. I generally use Link as a decoy character to throw people off my routines with other characters, such as DK or Samus, but I'm considering practicing him now, so that I can once again catch my opponents off guard with a display of applied knowledge. Very thorough guide I might add.

Do you have any other vids?

Garde can you give me the link to your site so I can get your videos of you playing as Link. I play a very good Link as well, and I would like to see your gameplay from mine. Also if anyone knows where the link is to his site, please post it up so that I may be able to get these videos as well too.

Yeah, I noticed that Links hookshot isnt wavey, like Samus. Still havent tested it yet, unfortunately. But someone can go to training mode and go to The Great Star FOx level and tell the CPU to jump, while you hookshot to him to the wall of the fin, to see if it turns to a spike. And you guys forgot to mention not to fast fall when you do that risky down+air Down Thrust. Cause if u do fast fall, your a goner with that move unless your fortunate enough to hit them.

It's not a spike.:o

The thing that probably happened was that you hit your opponent, and they...well got hit. And fell. I've done this dozens of times, before i even thought it was a spike. When someone's grabbing the edge, and i hookshot them, the just get hit. If they have fast enough reaction, they'll up+B in no time. I guess you friend just didn't see what happened, and he was too low to make it back. But it's not a spike.

Though a neat little thing about the hookshot is that it will ALWAYS do 6%. Even if you only use that move, it never gets weaker. Just 6%, all the time. I'd say some in-game hookshot tactics should be presented, but i think we've gone over that somewhere back in the thread. Wouldn't hurt to bring 'em back up though...:)

Hmoob Koob: Just go to one of Garde's posts, and click on his sig to go to his vid site.

Calibur Champ: To prevent fast falling when you're doing the "suicide spike", don't press down+A, just use the c-stick.

When i usually down thrust when it hits i usually have time to use Link's up+b move to grab the edge of the stage. But i don't go too low under the stage because it takes awhile to get out of Link's D-thrust. Some of you might have known that already though.

Sup all, sorry for being absent for a long time. I've been really busy lately, and I haven't had much time to do anything really. Today I just did slave labor for 11 hours. Seriously, I was hoping in and out of a flatbed truck for 11 hours picking up and dropping street signs for a ****ing half marathon that's held tommorrow. The race director gave us **** for wanting to leave after 11 hours, when we were originally told it would take "2 hours, maybe 3." ****ing bull****...

Anyways, glad sabreant liked the guide, and anyone else that's slightly new. My guide is old, and I've gotten much more experience since it was written, so there are several things I need to delete/change/add to it. I might undertake that once my senior portfolio/project is done.

Hmoob, click my sig. The vids are 6-8 months old, I have no new vids at the moment that can be posted, although I have a tape of me, JtDL, and tMoC playing against one another that I will hopefully convert in the next few weeks/months (depending on when my mom gets the DVD player/VCR that she wants to get).

As Ricky says, the hookshot is not a spike, neither is Samus's.

Germ, I tend to go for sex kicks, f-airs (preceded by boomers or bombs most of the time) to keep people away from the edge. I've used the d-air against people using their up+B's to get onto the ledge many times before, however. If that's what you're talking about, I know what you guys are talking about, and it's great for surprising enemies who are thinking "Yes! I've made it to the ledge!"

SabreAnt, I'd love to show you what my Link can do now, if you were impressed with the vids of my Link 6-8 months ago. I'll try to get those vids up asap.

Thanks for keeping this guide alive in my absence, guys. It's awesome for you guys to do that, I'm going to try to post more, but I'm really busy still, just saw all of those emails in my box saying "GO TO YOUR ****ING GUIDE AND POST ALREADY"

Later all...

Awesome. Tell me Garde, who is your secondary character? I would imagine Y.Link due to the blatant similarity, but you might surpirse me. Do you use Samus well?

The only thing similar between YLink and Link are their movesets, not the way the movesets behave... But yes, I'd consider YLink my secondary, along with Falco...

Since everyone else made lists, I'll go ahead and list mine...

Link
YLink
Falco
Ganondorf
Falcon
Fox
Doc
Ness

SabreAnt, I actually suck with Samus, and would not even consider trying to use her if it weren't for her insane bomb jumping recovery (that Link can't quite match up to :/ ). Too floaty...

Heh, probably unlike the others here, I suck at just about everyone else I listed. Well, I suck with Link, too :p, but that's besides the point. I mean, my Link is my best by a huge gap. YLink is only close due to the similar move sets (meaning less adapatation is required, and no Falco Phantasming off the edge :p). Kubuu, staying as Link is awesome, I wish I could've done the same, but my dedication ran out a while ago and I decided to try out other chars... :( So yeah, my skill has deteriorated a lot from when I used to only play Link...

Good to see you finally get on the boards, Barret. Thanks for the comliment, btw. :)

My Y.Link skills are starting to surpass my Link's in some areas which i fight. Like Edage guarding, which i find kind of confusing.
Because when i use my air neutral a, it seems that Y.Link has more knock back then Link.
And has a advantage over him in jumping.

Still Link is my boy:)

Hang in there Garde. Don't give up on poor Link, he needs you. I played just straight Link for about a year and a half with not even touching another character, but I learned that a lot of my Link techniques and ideas derived from using other characters. I wouldn't be even close to how good I am now if I didn't experiment with other characters like Luigi, Falco, and Mewtwo. Not that only playing Link is a bad thing, but rather playing other characters really speeds up your skill process, mental strats, and helps you be more diverse, not in characters, but in strategies, especially playing with faster characters Like Falco and Fox. Playing other characters and knowing there moves well, also give you a hand in figuring out strats to beat them with a certain character, in my case Link. That's really why I play other characters, to figure out the best way to beat there a$$ later.

I still rank Samus on top, even though my skill for both Marth and Link have probobly exceeded her. After my sabbatical, much practice as Samus will occur.

I have never been dedicated to just one character in my whole Melee playing career. Just like The GERM said, playing as other characters shows you what weaknesses you can exploit when going up against that character. I also feel that playing as other characters makes me feel like a much more well-rounded overall Melee player.

And Garde, even with your "deterioration" of your skill, my Link can still be mutilated by your Link on any day of the week. ;) (i.e. you are good, and I'm not so good)

I can't really brag about it, cause a few of my characters are pretty crappy, but i try and play all of 'em. Link's always been my first, but when i got the game, I went through all the characters and trained with them. Even now i'll just go to training mode, chose Link, and pratice the cancelling and stuff with him. Then i'll just pick a random character and work with them. Depending on how i feel is what characters i'll chose. Also my strategy for other character is brought over to Link. Like right now, i've been playing around with Luigi, and have found out he can pull a ton of air move with only one jump. I then go to Link and pratice the same thing, like if you do a neutral right after you jump, you can pull another one before you land. Out of shield this can be great, because if you usually pull a short jump neutral out of shield, you could try a full jump neutral, hitting them while you rise, and if they block it, coming down with another one before they could try a shield grab. Stuff like that.

heh, haven't posted as often as i should, guess garde's not the only busy one...:p

I meant my dedication to playing only Link. I'm not going to give him up, ever. He's the coolest character in the game, and my favorite video game character since I was 3 years old, there's no way in **** I'd trade him in for someone else (except for maybe Young Link, since he's still the same character, in essence, but I doubt I'd trade Link for YLink).

BLAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAINE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's good to hear from you man. We've all been hoping you've been alright. I hope those medical reasons aren't anything serious. Anyway though, glad to hear you'll be back around, and stay tough man.

Also, on Link sidenote, has anyone else noticed the double hit from the sex kick? There have been times where the I or the computer will pull of one sex kick, and it hits for double. And it's not the end of one sex kick and the immediate start of another, it's 2 hits off the kick. It's like you get hit by the lead foot, and the tucked in knee of the other leg. In which case the damage range goes from 6-9 to 14-17, from what I have seen.

1. Samus
2. Ganondorf
3. DK
.
.
.
12. Link :D Yeah, ok I'm still in the learning process I'll admit.

I find him one of the most enjoyable and captivating players/Nintendo characters ever. I just love Zelda games which helps.. Playing OoT at the moment, man its been a while, I'd even forgotten some of the songs. Its like rediscovering all this cool stuff! :) YAY LINK!
