According to GoNintendo, Nintendo WON'T have a press conference.

I wouldn't be surprised if we already knew about 90% of the material released at the press conference anyway.

God, the time could not have been worse for my internet connection to be gone.

As some of you may know, I live in Leipzig. I was gonna be there already, but unfortunately... I was so nervous this night I got 1 hour of sleep. If I go now, I'll have a heart attack at some point. So sleep comes first.

Apparently, there's hardly any information available concerning events like press conferences, so chances are low we'll be getting anything. But I will still report. If anyone hears any good leads as to when something could happen, PLEASE post it here and send me a PM, because I only have little time in the internet cafe.

If I'm not getting any leads, I'll just scour about on two days and see if I can get a glimpse at some other nice games.
Don't get your hopes up for Brawl news...
However I will do my best to tickle some info out of the people there.

nice fawriel, do what you can on your end, and we'll do our best on ours.

*If you happen to meet any capcom reps, see what they say about mega man in brawl lol-doesn't hurt to ask

Aaaaaand reporting from the first day. Mission survived, still without sleep, but almost without heart-attacks.
Whether it was successful, I dunno.

In short: The most revealing Nintendo-related thing I saw was a sexy lass in a Pikachu bikini. Ears included.

Seems like they are still as secretive as ever, but it's not only Nintendo this time. There is almost no program available for anything, so information on anything was sparse.

Of course, Nintendo's still the master of that.
The Nintendo stand styled the typical white. It was the only stand that I recall that had curtains all the way up to the ceiling around it, only open to one side, where one could enter to play Brain Jogging or whatever it was called, Wii Sports and Wii Fit. I think I saw Strikers Charged for a moment once?
In essence, the stance was based around the games for everyone.

One thing to note is that the stand also had a completely curtained area only accessible to reporters and the like. The security dude acted clueless in response to my sly remark about rumors that there's to be a press conference... apparently, there won't. And if there was, it would be for the press.

I wouldn't expect anything interesting... after all, the Dojo turned on the boost anyway. Two updates today, and already another newcomer.

I shall still keep hoping for the PAL release date... on the other hand, you would probably hear about it from another source before I could get back online.

As for non-Brawl info, Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Game(?) seems fun, but plain. In case anyone cares, you can play as the main Mario cast ( including Luigi, Yoshi, Bowser, Peach... ) as well as Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Robotnik and Amy. There might be some unlockables.

Also regarding Sonic, I think Sega might be learning from its mistakes. I caught a glimpse of two ( or maybe it was one after all? ) upcoming Sonic games. One was a racing game that reminded me a lot of the bonus stages from old Sonic games. The other thing I saw might have been from the same game, but it seemed more like a full-fledged single-player platformer. Either way, both remind me of earlier games and seem to indicate that Sega's going back to their roots a little.
Though the cheesy rock music is still there.

Well, here's hoping tomorrow will be a better day.

At the very least I hope to hear mention of it and a release date (even though I live in North America).

There are still three days left to cover. That curtain thing seems suspicious, but I won't get my hopes up for anything Brawl related behind it.

Pics please?

I mean, thanks for the info!

I believe that is Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity for the Wii and PS2.

Was it 2d or 3D?

Thanks for the nice words, everyone.

Day 2 of 4 today, I'll be leaving there soon.
If anyone wants me to try to find some important people who happen to be able to tell you stuff about, say, Megaman, just ask me where to go and what to ask so I can do it tomorrow.
I doubt anything good will come out of that, though, because most people there are just people who were paid to stand guard or give information about the few things they are already presenting. If I got a hold of any higher-ups, chances are they'll be busy with a lot more important things than some little fan asking about unrelated things.

I'll take some photos today, too. I keep forgetting I have a digital camera. Of course, uploading them will be a problem without my own PC online... let's hope that'll be fixed soon... ( it was actually delayed again... )
But once I'm fully back in action, I'll have some photos of curtains. And maybe certain Pikachus.

Red Maniac, that's exactly the game I meant.
I do think there was another... it showed Sonic running through a 3D world with predefined 2d pathes, including the famous loops and rings and stuff. It seemed like an upgrade of the first games. I'll pay more attention today.

I dunno. Ask people for cryptic character clues, or their game of origin, if you meet anyone higher up. Of course, ask for their autograph too (gah, I can be such a nerd sometimes X_X).

Yay! Photos should be good.

Fawriel, keep it up dude.

And back from the second day.

Good news or bad news first?

...

Bad news first.

I completely missed a live appearance of Hideo Kojima. I'm sorry, Snake fans. I'll study the programme more closely now so I won't miss such a chance again.
If it's any consolation, I did catch a photo of a certain "Shingo" from Konami, who presented a game about a certain "Dewy"?

I also learned that today was Hideo Kojima's birthday. How weird that Sakurai didn't seem to care enough to dedicate an update to him. Or maybe one is to follow come monday?

Somewhat good news, though. At least, a bit of information beyond the games they show to the public.
I was lucky enough to run into a hardcore gamer while trying to ask a security dude about stuff, who complained about Nintendo's apparent lack of care about the hardcore gaming community. He was advised to go to the press-only area and ask for a spokesperson... I had no idea that was possible! So I tagged along.
The man who came to talk to us listened to the accusations and assured us that it's all just the marketing strategy Nintendo's pursuing, yet the hardcore gamers are not forgotten. The stand did get a lot of attention - it was always well-frequented by all sorts of people, all of whom seemed to enjoy jogging their brains and boxing the air.
I remarked that Nintendo as a whole should take an example in our dear Sakurai who makes us feel cared for. There's no telling whether that will cause him to consider anything, but alas, it's the best I can do.
Information I could tickle out of him was only that, behind the curtains, press people were allowed to play Super Mario Galaxy, Super Paper Mario and Metroid Prime Corruption. If there was any new information, he wouldn't be allowed to tell me. However, I got the impression that all of the GC was more about showing stuff that already exists in order to advertise it, and that there really is no new information. The brain games, Wii Sports and a thing that lets you make a button for your shirt with a Mii on it... all things aimed at increasing the popularity of the Wii itself as well as the DS as "Touch Generation" consoles.
Another thing he assured me of is that no information about Brawl even exísts - that is, nothing outside of what we already get from the blog. I guess that means we can only wait and see.

Another fun fact: According to him, there were 10 bodyguards behind the curtains!

As for Sonic, I paid some more attention and finally got the name of the game: Sonic Rivals 2.
Doesn't seem as promising now that I found information about it...
But at least the Nights into Dreams sequel looks much like the well-loved original game.

Anyway, I've gotta run.

In the end, information seems extremely hard to come by. The convention is centered around advertisement, not hype.

But again, if anyone wants me to check out anything certain, I'll go ahead and do my best.

By the way, I remembered to ask Capcom about Megaman's chances in Brawl, but had to find that a Capcom stand didn't even, well, exist. Bummer.

Better luck next time, I guess?

PS: I like cheesy rock music, too.

Thanks, Fawriel. At least someone let a cry out for hardcore gamers. It seems that they still want to keep up in the dark. It would be nice to have a playable demo in there.

:(

Euro people always get beaten, even at our own conference.

You think they could at least relase the official EU release date. Or maybe they were afraid we'd attack the stands with machetes.

I forgot to include a little comment regarding the lack of information for hardcore gamers.

I think I'm starting to understand the thought behind the strategy.
The spokesperson said that showing only the casual stuff was an expansion of their current strategy... if they displayed the hardcore stuff, those casual gamers would be driven away. "You can't please everyone," to put it in his words.
I think Nintendo's simply pursuing two different strategies now... they appeal publically to everyone everywhere with their easily accessible and fun stuff that, you have to admit, is pretty innovative and interesting.
The hardcore gamers are already loyal fans... they don't have to be spoon-fed information. Us hardcore gamers are the kind who know where to look for info and even bother to look for it. Even if there is none, we know what we'll get. And it's not like there had been a whole lot of info revealed about games before they were released in the past, right?
Nintendo declared that it's not even taking part in the competition anymore... they are filling the "niche", which happens to be quite large. It gains them profit, and the more profit the company has, the safer it can feel and the more it can dare to produce things with less potential gain in them.
This is purely speculation, but if my judgment is correct, it can only be good for every Nintendo fan in the long run if Nintendo pursues this strategy until its goals are achieved, then finds a balance between the hardcore market and the casual one.

...but I do want my release date. *shakes fist*

No report from day 3, since there was nothing to report.
The creator of Final Fantasy gave autographs, I waited there for half an hour in advance to be there in case of an interview, but the only question he was asked was whether he liked the convention and stuff.

So... yeah.
Nothing's gonna happen today, either.
So since I'm not feeling too well anyway, I'll just stay at home.

I hope the two reports sufficed to still your hunger for some taste of the Games Convention.
