Mayflash have produced an adapter that allows you to use your Gamecube controller as a classic controller for use of Wii and especially Wii U. It's most likely that Super Smash Bros. for Wii U would have Classic controller support. Suppose it did, would anyone get this adapter and use the Gamecube conrtoller? Now if this game announced CC support and Mario Kart 8, then yes I would.

I would. It would mean less money to be spent on pro controllers.

I'll keep using the GC controller for smash if this adapter works for it. But no split milk if it doesn't. In a way it would be fun to re-learn smash a little.

Less money they would be spending to make this controller or less money they will be making because no one will be buying the controller?

In Super Smash Bros Brawl, I used the Classic Controller with mine own special control scheme. After using that, I am no longer used to the GameCube controller. That being said, assuming Smash 4 will have customisable controls like Brawl did, I will probably just stick to the Classic Controller or the Wii U game pad.

Remember, folks: people had to move on when people moved to Melee from the N64.

It's a matter of adapting to a new controller. I don't think it's much of a big deal and I played Brawl with a GCN controller!

You won't have that option on the 3DS version either.

True, but moving on from the N64 was a much easier process, especially considering that we have been using the controller for more than a decade now.

But you are right considering the 3DS version, though some may choose not to play it for that very reason. The pro controller would be so much better if they just switched that stick...

That WiiU GC Adapter is not available in the UK...what a suprise....(-_-) Also Home button?
You can get it on ebay, though it ships from Hong Kong (Link:http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/GC-Gamecube-Controller-Converter-Adapter-to-for-Wii-Wii-U-Mayflash-Brand-New/251251155034?_trksid=p5197.m1992&_trkparms=aid=111000&algo=REC.CURRENT&ao=1&asc=14&meid=8425743605903634623&pid=100015&prg=1006&rk=1&sd=251251155034& )
You can press the home button by holding the start button for more than one second or on the wiimote itself.

definitely will have to get one of these. I'll probably learn to adapt to the new control scheme anyways.
Still comparing the two controllers, the GCC just seems more natural imo; not just in smash but gaming in general.

If Nintendo doesn't make this, I'm certain someone like Hori will.

^ If hori could do something like that without conflicting with the patenting agreement, then i'm all for it.
I've always wondered how much of an obstacle Nintendo's patents are here, every third party gamecube controller I've used has been horrid and that's being generous because I don't know any adjectives strong enough to adequately express how bad third party GCN controllers are...

I haven't used the Wii U Pro controller yet but I already think the U gamepad is pretty bad, assuming Wii controllers are useable I could get by with classic controller though I don't love the feel of the sticks and buttons on it

I'll definitely try to get this.

If I get a Wii U, that is.

Yeh one thing for pro players who do want to use this, just a slight warning(I got one for brawl when I realized my new Wii didn't have gamecube ports) All the buttons and triggers work fine, the only thing I had a prob with was, the joy stick had a slight calibration problem. The if u tilt it, it has to go over quite a bit far before it registers, making it that at some point where a tilt would work, it doesn't register as the joystick being moved at all. It sounds bad in text but, when using it, it isn't much of a problem but for some, it may be a real pain

The last incarnation of this thread didn't go over so well. I'll keep it open for now but I'll lock at the first sign of flaming. We're all passionate about GC controller but discuss it in a civilized manner!

edit: I voted no.

I actually wouldn't. I have been relying on the Gamecube controller for far too long, I am trying to learn the other controllers. Currently, I am practicing with a Wii Pro controller and once Smash 4 launches, I am going to switch over to the Wii U Pro controller. It adds diversity to the experience.

To be fair though, I was strongly considering the adapter when I first started.

I don't even use it now. It's my third choice in Brawl.

Classic
WiiMote + Nunchuck (Dat reaction time)
GCN
WiiMote (Only if truly desperate)

But, with that said. I voted no, as I can't (I don't think you can plug a GameCube controller into a 3DS)...

I'd try it out with both the gcn remote and the pro controller. I'll keep the adapter around for when friends come over, regardless of which one i end up choosing.

I think at this point it's not so much that people want GC back, but something akin to wired controllers. Only thing is game consoles are ditching wires, and I don't think they want to go back.

Personally, I'm cool with using the Wii-U Pro. It and the 3DS have the same basic button layout, which makes it easier to shift between both.

Moving from 64 to Gamecube was basically an evolutionary step.

The new controller options are just kinda like a step to the left. I'd rather not take it if I don't have to.

Only reason why I think anybody is really passionate about the GC controller is because of how both Melee and Brawl were designed with the GC controller in mind, and that worked really well. This obviously isn't the case for Smash For and judging from what we've seen at the E3 Demo, the game will probably be designed with the Wii U Pro Controller in mind.

So this Gamecube controller adaptor may not allow you to get the "full" experience in Smash U.

I hope sakurai doesn't include wii classic controller support just so everyone is forced to learn a new controller like the jump from 64 to melee :3

also think about it, why would smash 4 have classic controller support. that would hurt wii u pro sales.
also the fact the game already is going to be forced to have gamepad support, wii u pro support, wii mote support, and wii mote and nunchuck support makes me think sakurai isnt going to add classic controller support.

can't wait to findout what ends up happening

Anyways. If a wired GCC was made then yes I would use it. However if another wired controller is made and GCC remains wireless only through an adapter then I would play with the wired controller. If the only options are wireless then it will either be the CCP or Game Pad I will play with, I'm only considering the Game Pad because I can play on my own screen rather then look at the same TV as my opponent which could end up being advantageous.

The truth is whatever wired option or (almost wired option) comes to fruition will be the only one allowed at events anyhow.

don't you see comrad, it's impossible for there to be any wired iteration.

events are just going to have to deal with the bull**** of wireless wii u pros. (probably going to involve people turning their controllers off if they aren't playing by removing the battery with a screwdriver)

it's literally impossible for a wired solution to exist simply because the wii u pro doesn't transmit any data to the wii u, it just charges when its plugged in unlike what happens when xbox one, ps3, ps4, and 360 controllers are plugged in via usb. Nintendo kinda ****ed up on this one big time :/

Wii U Pro Controller sucks.
Gamecube Controller is old and obsolete.
Classic Controller Pro is Master Race.

Totally exaggerating here, but yeah. I'll just use the CCPro for Smash 4. ¦D

Someone or Nintendo may come up with a wired solution, that will be the only one allowed be it pro controller, GCN knock offs or whatever no way are large scale events gonna run with wireless bull****.

is the wireless bull**** really that bad for large events?

I would if it was an option. I don't feel like going out of my way to get an AC adaptor. I'll wait for either an official GCN controller for the Wii U or a good 3rd party one. However, it doesn't matter for the 3DS version anyway…

Nah, I'll likely pick up a Pro Controller, which feels great.
That said, if someone, like, walked up and gave me an adapter, I'd definitely use it. The GC controller is a beautiful piece of equipment. <3
