Hey guys,

After all these years, I'm finally making a brief trip down to LA. It will be my first time in Cali, so I'm naturally quite excited.

I will only be visiting for a short time, but I wanted to see if anyone in the area was interested in meeting up to see some of the sites or to play some brawl. Any suggestions on what to see are most appreciated as well. I've already located a number of interesting things, but I'm sure that those of you who live in the area would know far more than any crummy guide book.

I'll post a more specific time and date when I have the flight info, but if anyone is interested feel free to let me know.

I'll bump this. Surely there must be someone in the LA area besides Mikehaze?

Theres always a tournament at PlayNTrade like every 2 weeks. You can play ALOT of good ppl there.
No, don't listen to this guy, those tournaments are garbage, unless you like laggy tv's.

There's another gamestore that hosts tournaments called "shuffle and cut," which aren't that bad, and usually get a decent tournament. they're weeklies btw.

*Gulp* Yeah, that's me, but I'm not a Falco player in particular and tried to use every character to some extent (I was probably best with Sheik Peach Doc and Gannon). I feel like Eric Seidel when it comes to melee; always getting recognized most for my worst defeat, heh. To be honest I find the video pretty funny now (I couldn't even shoot lasers the right way LOL!) and I'm willing to laugh at my mistakes rather than defend them frivolousy.

Edreeses, I've heard of you, and I recall hearing that you were a really cool person, so it would be great to meet you!

I don't know if I'd have time for a tournament, but I'd certainly be interested in playing anyone in melee or brawl. However, the thing I'd like to do most is see many of the sights LA has to offer. Any suggestions?

he was the campiest of all campy sheiks in melee. and wasn't good at that. unless im thinking of another unknownforce
Wtf? Not true, except during some matches at GS2 when I was told to play that way. I don't see why you feel the need to talk trash when I've never met you, but it's not really cool to go around insulting other players you know nothing about. Or are you just messing around?

i'm not talking trash, i just recall when i started out in the community you were ridiculed alot for your play style and you were very defensive, much as you are right now. I respect that you flew out to that japan tourny with ken and isai tho

Hmm, so if you didn't mean to trashtalk, why else would you possibly feel the need to mention your opinion on a totally irrelevant matter? Even if what you said is true (which I feel it isn't) I fail to see how it possibly has any relevance to me visiting, which leads me to conclude that you wanted to see how I would respond to an insult. I admit my response was defensive, but how else would you expect me to respond? The alternatives were to ignore it, joke about it, or talk trash back, but instead I attempted to clarify that your assumption was incorrect (and that since we hadn't met, it seemed unfounded). The fact that I was defensive shows you much more respect than if I had ignored you and acted like you weren't even worth responding to, and I didn't want to joke about it because you would probably assume it was true.

I'll just clarify again that I wasn't ridiculed alot. After GS2 I recieved a few complaints on DC+ for my match against Kubu, and because I didn't want to be known as a camper I changed my style for the most part.

None of this has anything to do with my visit though, and I really don't want to continue this further (the thread has already gotten stupider!) It's really no big deal, but I don't want to discuss anything besides LA and meeting up with fellow smashers to have a good time.

Speaking of which, is the Zoo or any museums in LA worth seeing? The guide I read spends most of the time talking about Hollywood, so I don't know much about them.

Mango, do you live nearby? If so, it would be cool to meet you too.

isn't smashboards a public forum where we can discuss our opinions openly?

Edrees said he had heard of you but he didn't know where, so i let him know you were the campy sheik in the gs2 crew battle vids.

I did not enter this thread to hate on you, i even recommended the towers in watts as something to visit while in LA. Sea world is in San diego, almost 2hrs away from LA. But if you have a means of transportation or a smasher who is willing to go with you down there then it's def worth seeing, plus while in san diego you can hang out with rickety who is top tier

2 hours? Doh, that might be tough, but it would probably be worth it to see both cities. Ironically, San Diego has one of the best Zoo's in the world, so seeing both places (not to mention all the other great sites) would be wonderful. Rickety is well known on the East Coast as being another amazing person, so it would be great to meet him too.

You are right that you are free to discuss your opinions, but you can understand why I took it the wrong way, right? I did ask if you were joking because I saw your second post. Like I said, no harm done, and really, I don't mind (but ack at being remembered best for GS2 and Japan instead of the more positive things I've done =P)

Dark-I don't know if I could possibly get to Norcal, although it would sure be a shame to see only a few parts of Cali. Maybe I could see about renting a car...

I don't know if you would care, but Video Games Live/Comic-Con is going to be in SD at the end of July too.

Sea World is pretty fun :)

Cool, a giant gaming convention? Sounds fun, but I'd be getting way ahead of myself to make any plans with it yet. After all, I'm only going to be in Cali a few days for now, heh.

ROFL! I still remember they started showing that video during the tournament and I started to laugh at how I was holding the controller (and DA Dave tried holding it the same way as I did during a match haha).

I made a number of appearances on MTV's Truelife as well, including about a second of my YL versus Killaor's Mario (I guess the media likes me? LOL). What's funny is they recorded a number of our matches and the cameramen spent at least 6 hours recording footage at Chris's house (he was a really nice guy and spoke to a number of us off camera about the game and life in general). Seeing as they had to cut it all down to something like thirty seconds, I'm surprised they put it on at all. How I wish they had put the part where KoreanDJ was moneymatching Zanguzen and he put his controller down, thinking he had lost, but somehow survived because Zang accidently got off the ledge too quickly. Dan made a mad dash for the controller, but it was too late and Zang downsmashed him to his death (without realizing that Dan had put down the controller!) The cameraman walked in right as people were laughing and one of Chris's friends shouted, "How embarrassing!" but they cut the part showing Dan's reaction. Dan kind of starred at the screen blankly, and then posed for the camera and shouted, "What's up MTV!" Those kind of smash moments are priceless...
