Final Smashes and the Reflector

Now, I'm pretty sure Sakurai and his team are sensible enough to make sure this doesn't happen, but my friends and I had a strange idea the other day.

A couple of Final Smashes, namely Mario and Samus', have at least the look of projectiles. If they register as projectiles in the game physics...what would happen if you shot a FS into the reflector?

Im pretty sure the game would register it as something non physical and non projectile... like.. something beyond that.. like a mystical force or some stoner ****.

Yeah, that would just be way, way too much.

I'm more willing to bet everything that Final Smashes are going to be all or nothing events. Either you somehow manage to avoid it completely, or you get mollywhopped. Expect Final Smashes to completely bypass charcter-specific defensive measures (the Reflector, Ness' little absord shield if he makes it back in, etc.) and they'll probably either completely ignore shields or chew through them at an inprecedented rate.

Yea, fox's reflector would either do nothing and he still get hit or break on impact while he's getting hit by it so either way he would still get nailed. Samething with trying to shield it I imagine, instant break while getting hit. Best way to avoid it would be to jump out of the way, roll behind them, hop on the edge to cliff hang, or maybe hit them while they are in the starting animation which could possibly cancel it.

Well it SHOULD break through the shield. Though I am guessing that shielding it should help out to lower the damage.

It should be powerful enough to not get reflected.
And if it could be reflected.. LULZ

LOL:

I feel sorry for the n00b who tries to reflect the Zero Laser, gets the reflector broken by the laser, is dazed, and then is stuck in the laser until the FS finishes and he dies.

Wow that would suck.

Too crazy for me. I say Final Smashes are just what they are, Final. It doesn't seem to be focused quite as much on damage as it is distance, sort of like another item we know and love to hit people into the stardust with. I just want to know how many are multi-target and how many are single, and how many are transformations (if not into an alternate form, a super mode).

Uh... well... I uh...
We'll find out December 3rd when everyone rushes to training mode and drops like 100 smash balls at once!
Super Ace Away! Lol. Seriously, that's something to think about. Can she block the hammer or homerun bat?

What about powershielding it? I can imagine something crazy like the GW bucket thing happening, if they didn't think of this.

I'd think it'd have the same effect as throwing the starrod at a reflector. Which is that it ignores it and just hits Fox.

reflecting or powershielding will result in instant death anyways....

i imagine that the powershield would reflect the first hit of lets say,...samus cannon...

but i think that powershieldin can save you from Pika´s powertackle--- at least from one of them... but since pika can attack again, i think it will be very tough to dodge the second attack.

I love how everyones like no, techniques to reflect things are too complicated and un fun. hhahah some threads are just charming.

jk :p

But ya, final smash I think that it should just ****ing go through. Fox's reflector is too easy to activate and that would be really abusable in any level of play where final smashes were used.

Well, here's the thing.

Fox's Reflector produces a miniature black hole which sucks in the projectile attack then simultaneously switches into a miniature white hole, ejecting the projectile. Normally, the blast from Samus's Zero Laser would just simply be more than Fox's miniature black hole could take, and it would overload, and he would suck hot searing beam-y death.

HOWEVER.

If he switched the batteries of the black hole generator for the same batteries as Samus's Power Suit (Energizer. If it's good enough for the National Guard, it's good enough for the Chozo, apparently. Also, they hate that little ******* pink bunny with an insane passion), then the black hole and the Zero Laser would be operating on the same energy, and the Zero Laser would sort-of "feed" Fox's black hole, until it became large enough to start actively sucking in all of the surroundings, eventually destroying the entire Smash Bros. universe.

So, to those who play Fox, if Samus fires the Zero Laser at you, SHUT THE HELL UP AND TAKE IT. It might just save the universe.

Man, I'm glad I read your entire post before I replied... after the first line I was already fired up to let go with a, "Sweet mother of all that is good and pure, please do not bring physics or canon storyline into this," reply.

I agree though. Foxes, shut up and take it. In fact, just stop moving around so fast and take everything. All the time. Do it. C'mon, do it. :chuckle:

Techincally, Zero Laser and Mario Finale aren't projectiles. They're more like beam attacks.
Beam attacks are like projectiles in that they move a long way, but they can't be reflected (i.e. Blastoise's Hydro Pump and Master Hand's laser attack). Reflectors can only reflect discrete blasts, not continuous discharges.

I think that you should be allowed to powershield it, but it goes through everything else.
I think the powershield will be instantly shattered if you tried to block a Final Smash. Just look at how powerful all of the Final Smashes we've already seen looked!

I personally think the FS will overrule just about everything, including Fox's reflector. The only way to avoid damage would have to be getting out of harms way (say, flying over or ducking under Mario's huge fireblast.)

I would actually find it funny if you could just easily reflect a Final smash. Yes, it would majorly suck, but there is a mildly funny side to it.

LOL Samus on a high percent with one stock left, the player screaming with delight as she gets a Smash Ball - only for it to be reflected by Fox. PWNT!

As Toomai correctly stated, the FS's are not Discrete Projectiles but continuous discharges.

Of course, if a transformation-type Final Smash shot a projectile at you (such as Giga Bowser's fire breath), I suspect you could reflect it.

What if Peach used Toad to block the attack?
i guess he would die intimidately, i think final smashes wont be blocked for nothing, once theyre done and you get hit, you die (maybe expept if you have a star?, meh, i think that will be youre only chance of sruvival :p)

Yeah, invincibility from Stars, revival platforms, and maybe edges would be the only way to avoid Final Smashes (as opposed to invulnerability, such as shields and dodges).

Why not just abuse the ledge invincibility? That's my current plan, given I have enough time to get to it before I get blasted.
