my friend is thinking of hosting a brawl tournament, starting off with a free for all going into 1v1 to save time. would you guys go to this tournament? also, would a buy back be viable?

I'd be happy to enter, but there is one thing stopping me from making a solid descision...Where is it held?
The ultimate thing that stands in my way, sadly, is distance. Why?
I'm broke... ._.

If your going to host a tourney do doubles and singles

FFA is not competitive and most likely won't get competitive. Though it is fun to play with a friend that sucks at smash or a nephew or something lol

If there is a prize to be won then people will just work together to team up on the better player which will allow them to have a better chance at winning. The results of a free for all are much more random which is poor for any competition.

FFA are fun with a group of people but it really shouldn't and can't be taken seriously competitively.

dont even think about it, delete that thought from memory

ffas are the worst decider of skill ever, the biggest camper will win, just let the other 3 fight, or gangrape the best.

nobody of any decent talent would willingly enter knowing they'd have to go through ffas.

You should definitely read the threads on tournament hosting and whatnot before asking any more questions.
Llumys is all over it.

Singles and Doubles are the way to go and also a lot of FFA happens when people arrive early to tournaments. From what I've seen there's the time to sign up for singles and doubles. After/while people are doing that you have some time to do FFA, or if the tournament doesn't go too long after the tournament.

What if the it was set on time, and have top 2 advance in each game. The winner of time matches are the players with the most kills right? if so that would discourage camping, and make the players want to score.

I know people would go to the tournament if some serious money or some kind of prize was involved along with a fair rule set.

xwhaletalk, you should post some information on this tournament; make a thread in your regional section http://www.smashboards.com/forumdisplay.php?f=89

you could probably also get some help hosting this tournament from locals in your area.

I've seen (and done) this at an anime convention. Two people pair up and just keep killing the other two.

"Hey look. That guy's really good. Let's triple team him so one of us can Win!"

Also crew related shenanigans.

Favortism FTL.

I recommned 2 on 2 with friendly fire on instead.

Leave it to the anime conventions to host FFA tournies

I recommend you read the stickies here if you're looking to host a tournament, but in all honesty I also suggest that you go to a tournament to see what it's like for yourself

What if your nephew just happened to be M2K?
