Self explaitory topic, but add an explanation please. Also, tell me some runners up

if possible, heres a response I'd like to avoid

"The matrix is the best movie ever. Neo is really cool, its totaly awesome when he fights agent smith in the subway. Kung-Fu rocks!"

heres a better response

"I loved the Matrix. The movies ability to make the viewer question reality and work in revolutionary special effects at the same time proved that action does not have to be stupid.

Personaly, American Beauty is the best movie I have ever seen. An amazing portrayal of an average family that is anything but ordinary (theres a line like that in it somewhere). It is a contemporary masterpiece that is touching, engaging, and at times pretty funny too.

Among others, Donnie Darko, Pulp Fiction, Resevior Dogs, Dogma, Equilibrium, Back to the Future, Star Wars (originals), and The Last Crusade.

how about you?

I would reccomend

The Goonies: Come on, do I need to say anything

1969: Shows a cool freindship between two guys my age set in the fore mentioned year. It was worth watching to hear Winnona Ryder say "Make love to me." Ultimately tackles the Vietnam protests.

The Mexican: Story about a guy who "Forrest Gumps" his way through the delivery of an artifact gun in Mexico. The gun has a tragic history that is revealed through the comedy/action fim.

The Highway: Two guys are on a road trip. One is looking for a girl. Kurt Kobain's death is the backgroud story through the whole movie. I am not sure if I have the title of the film right, I was watching it late at night on a movie channel. As a matter of fact, this movie may have sucked, I am not sure why I remembered it just now.

The Salton Sea: Love lost and all the low brow drug deals you can shake a stick at. Some comedy thrown in to the mix for comic relief, in this somewhat dark drama.

Then the big ones like LOTR, Star Wars, and Teh Matrix

I saw Donnie Darko and I thought it was awesome.

Gotta give props to Vanilla Skies now that I think about it.

I might think of more later.

Super Troopers: It has an engaging story line, and proved that comedy can be classy. And it made me giggle.

Honourable Mentions:
Ice Age: errm, sid moved funny. And did everything funny. Nice smooth animation. Plus its addictive like crack, so i can watch it over and over.

Donnie Darko: A wicked good storyline that makes you think. Just a cool underground movie. (well it was here...)

also Snatch, End of Eva, Enter the dragon, Ninja scrol.

The Bourne Identity is my favorite film. It had an excellent plot, and it also portrayed Europe accurately. The action scenes were really engaging, too.

A close second favorite goes to Behind Enemy Lines.

Mine is Monty Python and the Holy Grail. It's just too funny. The actors (Only 6 major ones) are so good, it must be the best satire comedy ever. It's just really crazy, the storyline and the rest don't matter, it's not the point of the movie. In fact, there's no real point in the movie, it's just craziness! O_O O_O O_O

My favorite movie right now is Matrix: Reloaded. Neo is awesome it was sooooo cool when he took on all the smith's at once........
but the movies ability to cause people to think, not only during the movie but after it as well, I spent a good hour afterward contimplating all the possibilties. The wachowski brothers are genuises. Their ability to build on the original was amazing, It had awesome special effects, and even the stuff that didn't make sense and your like why didn't they do that before, it still all fitted (blah) perfectly! It was superb! And Neo is awesome!

I'm a movie lover as well! What a coincidince

Here's my favs

Happy Gilmore: About a hockey player, gone golfer, plus Happy manages to change the sport of golf forever due to his rambuncious additude

Goldeneye: This was the first bond movie that I accually watched, and I loved it! I also liked how another 00 agent was the bad guy for this movie

Batman: The original one mind you! Non of that Batman and Robin crap! I liked the first movie because it was true to the comics, and was given a dark atmoshpere by Tim Burton

Spiderman: Another great comic gone movie, this is the movie for the people who loved comics, some people complained that spiderman wasn't dark like batman... but Spiderman was and never will be batman now will he!?

The Goonies: HEY YOU GUYS!!! Who could forget the moment when Sloth removed his outer shirt to reveal a superman shirt, and then saved the kids from the gangsters!

Bruce Campbell vs. The Army of Darkness: This movie is for the people who love action, and guys who get the girl in the end.... oh, and this is also for those who like horror/comedys

Clerks: Smart humor, plus witty clerks who hate there jobs, and the people who buy things from them.

Those are my top movies... I wish I could list more... but I don't got the time... :shyguy: :beezo:

The Matrix Movies, by far. Nothing combines action, coolness, and deep themes so well. The Wachowowososossowowoski Bros are just awesome. Revolutions will rule.

I just wonder what they'll do after The Matrix trilogy...that's gonna be impossible to top...

Memento: Speaking of movies that make you think.........A very cool style of cinematography and storytelling. About a man with no short-term memory who is trying to find his wife's killer.

Transformers: The Movie: Really needs no explaination.... One of the finest animated (not CGI) movies to date.

Resevoir Dogs: A great film about treachery among jewel theives, very gory/vulgar mind you, but still great.

Dogma: My favorite Kevin Smith movie by far, a different twist on religion, can be very offensive to some, but it's freakin hilarious. Plus, Buddy Christ is just too cool........

The Boondock Saints: A very cool action movie about two Irish brothers who believe they are on a mission from God to kill all sinners.....Be warned though, there is a helluva lot of swearing

Honorable Mentions: Blade, Mallrats, Clerks, X2, Batman, Daredevil, "The Holy Grail", Event Horizon, Mafia! and UHF.

Traffic- Shows how futile (well, almost anyways) the drug war really is, providing very little victories and a **** of a lot of losses. Cinematography is also a plus.

Planet of the Apes (older version)- The newer made me puke, but the original kept me interested the whole way through. One of the best sci-fi plots ever.

Vanilla Sky- Nice soundtrack covers this rather confusing story, concerning the very nature of love and life. Got me thinking at least XP

Fight Club- One of the few movies with 0 plotholes. I looked and looked.

Frailty- Shows how not all unstable people are wrong.

Taxi Driver- WATCH THIS MOVIE. It is just plain great.

American History X- My favorite movie. Shows how racism causes more hurt than anything and it's irreconcilable.

My fav movie is: Cardcaptor Sakura the 2nd movie: The sealed card

Still? hehe ^-^ I absolutely love this movie, once being an absolutely obsessed CCS fan, I love this movie. It's so sweet and just wraps up the whole series so perfectly. I wanted to cry at the end out of happiness the first time I saw it ^-^

Of course, still gotta love the mainstream favourites though, we all know what they are ^_~ And there are others...but I'm not buggered to mention them right now honestly ^_^'

I can't believe that nobody has mentioned Shallow Hal yet . Man, that movie was hilarious yet touching near the end. I laughed so much when I saw it in the movie theatre that I almost couldn't breathe.

Orange County is also a really good movie. That movie left me in stitches also. Actually, I think that any movie with Jack Black in it is good.

There's also X-Men, the first one (haven't seen X-2 yet :(, but oh well) which was really cool and had a lot of action in it.

I also loved all of the Jurassic Park movies, man they were the greatest. Especially the third one with spinosaurus, darnit he kicked butt!

That's pretty much all I care to think of right now, but I know there are many other great movies out there.

I loved the Hulk, it had so much action. Pretty much all Marvel movies have alot of action. But when the Hulk took on those mutant dogg....I cant expain it.... It's just too visicous. I enjoyed X-2, the battle between Wolverine against Lady Deathstrike was good it left me on the edge of my seat. And Spider-Man, in the matrix scence where spidy dodges those razor-blades.

There was a reason no one mentioned Shallow Hal. It sucked. A few, VERY few scenes were funny or worth watching but over all it was terrible.

Orange County I agree with though.

I have to add two more.

Orgasmo and Basketball.

Orgasmo was just so funny. Trey Parker really is a genius.
"Jesus!" "Where?"

BASEketball was a great movie. It came on Starz when I was in about 7th grade during the summer. Well, I have Satellite so it played 4 times a day typically. I watched it about 56 times. Mostly after 1 am since I had no reason to go to sleep. It always stayed with me. Great movie.

Certainly not in X's house.
Jurassic Park cause it was my first movie. I loved how Steven made the dinosaurs so real. It almost freaked me out. The unforgottable part of the movie is when the T-Rex bust out and ate the blood-sucking lawyer. It was also the funniest part of the movie.

Followed closely by Indiana Jones. Indy's witty remarks are so cool! And those melting scenes were awesome. I was like HOLY CRAP, WTF?!

"No ticket!"

Orgazmo is my absolute favorite movie of all time. Every step of the way, it's just hilarity after hilarity. And there's SO many memorable lines from it, I say at least one a day...generally...
And how could anyone not like a movie with Ron Jeremy in it?

Braveheart and Gladiator are my faverate movies. After those I would have to say Spiderman. The Kevin smith movies are good, but I wouldn't go so far as to say they are my faverates.

1. Pulp Fiction- This movie has been my favorite for a few years now, for different reasons, I don't need to explain myself! Everyone knows it's great.

2. Taxi Driver- Wow, I love this! My favorite De Niro movie, though I'm not a big fan of him myself.

3. Apocalypse Now- The cinemetography is AMAZING in this, and it's the first out of two war films I can actually watch. (The other: Full Metal Jacket)

4. A Clockwork Orange- I just watched this again the other day, and it reminded me of how dull most movies are these days.

5. Trainspotting- I bet most of you don't know this movie!

6. Come Drink With Me- Old chinese kung-fu movie, wild stuff.

7. The Big Lebowski- John Goodman's greatest ****ing role. This movie...god...it's so funny. As good as the Coen Brothers get, outside of Fargo.

8. 2001: A Space Oddysey- This is lower on the list because I haven't watched it fully, each time I was a bit distracted, but, like most Kubrick movies, I loved what I saw.
---

Now, for a little lecture.

The Matrix ****ing sucks.
Kevin Smith movies, while they don't suck, are they really that good to be put on a favorite's list? So high up, at least? I do like Chasing Amy, and I guess Clerks. Oh well.

I know I'm exercising futility when I'm trying to get any of you to watch real movies, especially anyone who puts Bruce Almighty or Rob Schneider movies on a movie list.

I totaly agree. I'm looking through the posted lists and I'm going... "SWAT? Bad Boys 2? RAT RACE?! over Indiana Jones or Star Wars(not the c-rap prequels either)?"

It must be the Generation Gap, I'm 20 I'm sure the average here is quite a bit less then that.

I agree, somewhat. Rat Race was just so hilarious though.

REAL entertainment are movies like Die Hard movies, Terminator movies, Star Wars movies (original series), Lord of the Rings movies, Jurassic Park (original), Indiana Jones movies. REAL entertaining epics. Then, we have former classics like All Quiet on The Western Front (1930), The Wizard of Oz (1939), Gone With the Wind (1939), The Grapes of Wrath (1940), It's a Wonderful Life (1946), The Best Years of Our Lives (1946), Lawrence of Arabia, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, Easy Rider, and Midnight Cowboy. REAL hilarious movies, like all Mel Brooks movies, etc.

2001 is now my favorite movie!

I didn't edit because I'd have to switch the whole list around, which I'd have to do almost daily anyways.

This movie, god, I wish I could've seen it in a theater, when they re-released it in 2001...It's an experience..

Private Ryan was overrated

Time to revive a semi-dead topic!

For now, I'll dispense with comedies (except to mention the Odd Couple! Neil Simon ROCKS!), although I ADORE comedies. For now, I'm all about dramas!

Goodfellas
Casino
Patton (one of the best war movies ever)
Platoon (likewise)
The Deer Hunter (BEST WAR MOVIE EVER! MK WILL BACK ME UP!)
Dances With Wolves
Forrest Gump
Shane (admit it, Jack Pallance rocks)
Cool Hand Luke
The Sting
All Quiet on the Western Front
Amadeus
Clockwork Orange
To Kill a Mockingbird
Godfather Parts I and II
Apocalypse Now
Dr. Strangelove
2001: A Space Odyssey
Mr. Smith Goes to Washington
Apocalypse Now (The horror! The horror!)
It's a Wonderful Life
Schindler's List
On the Waterfront (Favorite movie of all-time)

EDIT: Holy Jesus. I just saw Vertigo. It was so **** good. Drop what you're doing and go rent it.

  • The Ace Ventura Series (IMO, the best Jim Carey movies)
  • LOTR Movies
  • Monty Python and the Search for the Holy Grail (Everyone needs to something stupid every now and then :-P)
  • Star Trek: First Contact (Aside from being Star Trek, it's actually a good movie)
  • The Lion King (A tad childish I know, but it never gets old for some reason :-\)

That's all I can think of for now, I'll post more later.

Best movies:

Lord of the Rings
Quentin Tarantino's movies (especially Kill Bill and Pulp Fiction)
Anything by Hayao Miyazaki (Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, Kiki's Delivery Service, etc)
And obviously a whole whack I can't think of.

Has someone mentioned the Matrix movies? 'Cause they suck (except the first one, which now feels cheapened by the sequels).
