Fast Faller Side Event

Just curious if anyone has done this before. I hate floaties and I play smash because I love the combos.

Given that a fox vs falco match in my opinion, is ten times better than a jigglypuff vs samus match, I think there should be a side event at tournaments where only fast falling characters are permitted.

If they had this side event I don't think I would enter the regular event.

Yea I agree, Pikachu can get comboed and combo, but Pichu I think is questionable

Not sure I think that list is from M2K's page of statistics, but yea mario should definitely fall as fast as mario

the biggest jumps are between bowser and below, and roy and below.
it would make the most sense to cut it off there.

persnoally, I would go with Roy and above being allowed.
(but then, you almost might as well do a falcon only or spacies only tourney)

Kinda did, but seriously....most tournaments are spacies, anyway. So I don't see the point in having a side event for just fast fallers? We already see an overwhelming amount of Fox/Falco/Marth/Sheik All of which fall in to the tournament. Sadly...it'd be like having a normal tournament for the most part, save Peach. (Which I find kind of silly.) There really aren't that many Jiggs mains out there, and HBox has a pretty beast Sheik.

So this is pretty much a: "Screw you Peach" tournament. That's actually pretty mean.

Yea for smaller tournaments I don't think this would work out that well, since like you said, it would be really similar to the actual tournament. But for big tournaments I feel like they would go really well because it really only involves the combo characters without the threat of the characters you can't combo.

Instead of banning floaty characters for a side event why not (For the Tournament Directors that have AR/some other hacking method) Just make a Metal Battle side event where every one plays as the metal version of the characters?

I feel like this will be successful if only because the Melee community tends to feel the same way about how fast falling characters are more fun to play against.

As someone who greatly prefers a slower-paced, heavy-thinking game, I disagree with this mentality. Maybe I should play LawlBrawl, but I'm happy with Melee, and I think Melee has a lot of factors that emphasize the thinking game as well.

I generally think it's dangerous to legislate based on what people think is more fun, but since this is a side event, I don't really have any objection. I just wouldn't play in it.

Well...the problem does come with....camping. Which the heavier characters are capable of. Especially Fox/Falco/Sheik. Falcon can run away effectively, and even Marth can be campy. So you still run the same risk of the match being slower paced.

By doing this....I'd say make it an invitational. (For a larger tournament) If you know they're going to be there...make sure they're in it. Even Peach can combo and be exciting. (VaNz/Armada)

You could make it the "Oh You Fancy, huh?" tournament. Camping is prohibited, and matches will be monitored. Taking the idea, and just expounding. (I get what you're getting at.)

8 minute long matches shouldn't be a problem
