Falcos Dthrow!?!?!

I have played smash since release, though i have only recently joined the smash boards community. That said, I'm not a [total] noob.

Anyway, my question is this: is there a reason why Fox can not L-cancel out of Falco's Dthrow? Basically, I hit the ground, get shot a few times, and immediately stand back up, almost like crouch-canceling Fox's shine. I can DI a little bit, but not enough that the Falco can just run up and grab me again. In essence, it is a huge chain throw that shouldn't even be happening.

I have tried L-canceling over and over again, even using different controllers, but nothing works. Is my game glitched? I can L-cancel using every other character, just not Fox. Has anyone else noticed this, or is this an old idea that everyone has accepted and let die?

Any insight would be appreciated.

You mean tech, not l-cancel. Fox does not hit the ground after falco's downthrow, so teching is impossible. To avoid being grabbed, di-ing away puts you far enough to dodge any attempt at grabbing, or you could try shining him out of it if your timing is good.

Argh. I do mean teching. That makes me look like the noob I claimed not to be ><.

Anyway, I'm only an above-average player, so I don't always DI right. The Falco I usually play against isn't that much better than me, but if he can get a grab off, he'll chain throw me, Dsmash me off the edge, and spike me into oblivion. Is there a certain timing (e.g. after the last laser, or when Fox makes his "hurt" sound, etc.) I could use to shine him? I always try but his Dtilt seems too fast to counter effectively.

its ok man lol i hope people dont flame you cuz then ill get mad. i hate when people flame noobs for asking questions. if its a dumb question i might join in but if its a serious question they dont know better i protect them.

what i do is i jab as soon as the downthrow ends. jabs lead to either and upsmash or a grab so you can turn a stupid chaingrab into a offensive combo starter. you'll get the jab with timing so just keep practicing. you'll be fine. :)

you can di far enough away to make him have to run after you, but youll be fully recovered by the time he makes it. at really low percentages youll di just barely out of his dtilt range. the timing should be right when fox makes his "hurt" sound (i dont know any better way to refer to that either...) if hes in the habit of charging right at you, use a dtilt for now, but you can use anything once you get used to the timing. that and hope he doesnt start shining right after the dthrow...

If you reach this level, some professionals like KDJ I believe and a few others who have answered this question for me before is shine into a "Thunders Combo" right after a Falco d.throw to actually turn it right back on him, making it a dangerous Falco decision to d.throw.

Thanks for all the help guys, right now I'm just having my brother Dthrow me so I can try some different tactics for escaping. Not doing too well, but I'll keep on it.

Oh, is learning to powershield Falco's lasers a good idea? I can usually get it on the third try (i.e., after being shot twice in a row). It really seems to slow Falco down and ruin his attack and grabs etc. that he can use after a close range SHL.

Next big thing, I suppose is to incorporate WDing into my game. I can do it without a problem.... but not in a match. Nervousness, perhaps?

but powershielding is sooo sexy <_<

and yeah, just try to WD during matches and eventually you'll do it as well as in practice

seriously like why bother go down. make those **** falco's come up here. lol my crewmate plays falco to help me train and hes always like showing off his tech skill on the bottom until he realizes he has to come up cuz im not getting off the platforms.

honestly though foxes should never lose to falcos. maybe if you made 2 many mistakes but we can just out play them so much easier then they can us. if ur having problems with ur friend just stay on a platform and jump whenever he trys an up-smash from below or a u-air, then punish it.

jeezuz ima get some vid's up in the next 2 weeks garentee'ed

if you want to WD in actual matches first you have to do it perfectly, as in never miss one for like 50 in a row. just go into a match w/ 2 controlers plugged in and dash dance a little bit then wavedash. practice this a TON. once you can do it 50 times in a row you will notice in actual games you have done it soooo much that you end up doing it in real games, which is REALLY helpful.

against falco though there isn't a lot of room to dash dance/wd because of lasers. you just have to learn how to play against falco. the main thing is keep him in the air w/ uthrow to usmash or utilt followed by another grab, usmash, or tilt, or uair. just keep popping him up, all combos against fast fallers are attacks that hit directly up.

Falco is simply better cuz fox sucks ballz and shoudn't be top tier LAWL

/***********

Just shine out of it. I play falco and my friend (a fox player) just shines out of it...which is extremely annoying but effective.
