I can't seem to get it down with Capt. Or any character aside from MK, for that matter. Do I just need to get used to his timing, or is it just WAY easier to do on MK?

You may have to buffer the [forward]>[down]>[back] (the run off platform>fast fall> autograb) a little earlier, before you reach the edge. For Sonic, this is about the distance of the 2nd arrow from the edge of FD. Experiment from there to find it for Falcon.

its pretty easy actually run of the edge, then do down, down and towards the stage, and then towards the stage. that motion as ive heard called the "hadoken" motion from street fighter. so basically run of the edge and do a hadoken towards the stage.

Nice. Street Fighter invented the quarter-circle!
There was some video about how to do this a while back.
