Introducing the East Coast Regional Circuit for 2008!

Website - http://ECRegionalCircuit.com

2008 is just around the corner, and with the new year, a brand new circuit for the East Coast will begin! While we tried this idea in the past year, many obstacles and setbacks gave the idea little success. Now, a new team of smashers has come together to rekindle the Regional Circuit, and we have a huge plan for the EC Community!

Five tournaments are being planned, as well as one last final tournament to determine who will be the best in the East Coast.

The system will work with KishPrime's point system:

Point System:

Singles

1st 45
2nd 30
3rd 20
4th 15
5th 12
7th 10
9th 8
13th 4
17th 2
25th 1

Doubles

1st 45
2nd 30
3rd 20
4th 15
5th 12
7th 10
9th 6
13th 2

Please note - Only the top 32 single entrants and top 16 teams entrants will receive points in every Circuit event.

The points determine who is currently leading the Circuit, as well as seedings for the Final event and the next coming FC. The Final Event will hold the bracket for 32 Pro Singles and 16 Pro Teams. Only the top 31 singles and top 15 teams in terms of points will be allowed into the Final event. The last spot for singles and teams will be determined by an amateur tournament during the Final event, and the winners will move on to the Pro brackets!

Important - The Circuit will be strictly for Melee. Brawl is much too fresh to start as a competitive fighter. Should this Circuit season be a success, it will be considered for the next season.

The five tournaments being planned for the East Coast are as follows:
  • Pound
  • Viva la Smash
  • Smashtality
  • TGP's event
  • Cataclysm
The events will be held a minimum of 6 weeks in between each other. Only Circuit events will grant the top players points for the Final events! As like before, 10% of the event pot will be taken and added to the Final pot. A website will be designed specifically for the circuit as a database for all players, as well as points and schedule of events. (http://ECRegionalCircuit.com)

With all this exciting news, we can only ask: Will the top elites once again dominate the scene, or will a newcomer blow them all away? Who is going to win the EC Smash Trophy?

And so it begins.

Stay tuned for updates as well as schedules for these events. Please ask any questions you have in this thread.

Nah me n' woz are cool.

At least, I think we are. Who knows what Wozzybear plans behind closed doors...

but yeah, East coast is too good, having some sort of ranking system is going to be very interesting.

Good thing all of those events listed aren't really far away from me. ^_^

How does the point system work in case of a tie in a position? Also, what if someone places in a position for the final event but they can't show?

For your first question, you'll have to give me an example. As you may or may not know, if I'm thinking about this correctly, placings look like the following for the top 32:

1st
2nd
3rd
4th
5th (x2)
7th (x2)
9th (x4)
13th (x4)
17th (x8)
25th (x8)

The multiplier is how many people tie for that position.

If you look at the point system, everyone who places in those ranks will receive those amount of points. 1st will get the full 45, while all 8 of 25th place gets 1 point.

For the second question, the top placing players will need to confirm before the event if they can come or not. If not, then players below them will be bumped up.

Hmm, well WoZ, you probably won't have that many people tied for those positions. For example, there may be 2 people tied for 25th, and the other 6 for 27th. Now, what happens when say, in the above situation, you have 2 people tied for 25th, but you have more than 6 people tied for 27th? Yes yes, it's a really really far out there theoretical situation, but I certainly would not like to be stuck in that situation.

One answer to that predicament could be let them duke it out gladiator style. Doubt it will happen though...just trying to ask questions beforehand as to avoid possible future confusion.

To answer your question, the above is exactly how it turns out. You can't have people tie for 27th. The only ranks people can achieve in a double elimination tournament are the ones above.

I don't even know how people can even place 27th - it isn't possible considering the bracket. Should there be more than 32 entrants, the next rank would be 33rd place, with 16 people tied in that position, and so forth.

WoZ, I was referring to if, for another example, the same person places in different positions in the final results for all of the major intended tournaments. If so, then said player will have an odd amount of points. What if that happened for...say...everybody? Theoretical of course.

Well firstly, the reason we have 5 events is so we reduce the chances of that happening. Someone who gets 1st twice already has a total of 90 points, while someone who gets 2nd twice only gets 60. 5 events will mix up these results as much as possible.

Tie's won't matter so much to players who easily make it through the top 31 in singles or top 15 in teams. However, should there be a tie for that final spot, there will probably be a set of 3 out of 5 between those two players to get the 31st/15th spot.

Keep in mind folks - the points don't necessarily determine rank. Their main purpose is to determine who gets to play in the final event, and plays a part in seeding. Of course, it doesn't mean that it isn't accurately close to what the rankings would be either.

The thing I'm hoping for is that these events happen an appropriate time apart from each other for proper preparation.

Well Kaotical dont worry about that.

We all met before posting this, the tourneys are going to be scheduled, specifically for this circuit.
I know i myself plan on attending every single one of the tourneys, and helping run them.

As the first post states, there will be a minimum , of a 6 week break between each event, so it will all be scheduled accordingly :)

Yeah, I forgot about that little detail in the first post. Still, there's the entire year to plan for, and I know 6 weeks is a bit of time, but what I'm saying is I'm hoping there's more than that. For me personally.

This is pretty awesome. I didn't even know about a circuit last year, then again I didn't get into smash competitively until late 06. I'm definitely interested in attending these, however there's a chance that Brawl will prevent me from going lol. Since this is throughout 08, and Brawl comes out fairly early in 08, I may not want to go back to competing for Melee.

think i'll be playing brawl in 2008 :\
good plan though! if this works out maybe '09 circuit would be brawl (assuming it'll be abled to be played competitively, and won't suffer the "soul calibur 3" affliciton)

Now, i dont want to say that there isnt a chance, that we will throw brawl tourneys at these events, were just saying the actual ranking and stuff, will be for melee only. because we cant just switch over mid season, but we definatly would like to see some competitive brawl. But. if thats the case, it would mean either no crews, or no teams.. or something along the lines of that, for melee

everyone lets work together to make sure m2k doesn't get the trophy ! good plan somebody else needs to win =/
Na, it will only take one Person. And that person is Me. So take it easy EC, take a nap, grab a snack, get a drink, cause I'm already cleaning that place above my fireplace for the trophy.

........That was a good dream, but seriously yea someone's gotta do it.

If PC doesnt take out m2k then our next best bet is Cort. But the winner of the trophy will no doubt be the same as the winner of Super Champ Combo, Korean DJ.
