Looking for legitimate dishes with (preferably) some nutritional value that require minimal preparation, which for my purposes means 10-15min or less.

I'M NOT LOOKING FOR DIETING TIPS. I just want to learn to cook more foods that have some nutritional value aka not ramen noodles and hot pockets....

Including a recipe, or instructions, limited or not, is a plus. Links to these things are also fine.

I would like to, for the most part, avoid things such as frozen dinners, mac & and cheese, ramen noodles, etc.

I went ahead and filled out breakfast, being that it is, well, easy. It is also the meal I most frequently prepare (I feel like this is probably a common thing for most people, I mean who eats out for breakfast?)

Breakfast
Eggs
Omelette
Biscuits and Gravy
Sausage
Bacon
Pancakes
Waffles

Lunch
Various Sandwiches *
Various Salads *
Black Beans
Salsa
Guacamole

Dinner
Grilled Chicken
Steamed Vegetables
Spaghetti
Penne (another type of pasta)
Rice
Salmon (although this is rather expensive, and not very feasible on my budget)
Burritos/Tacos (mainly chicken, not beef)

*(If anyone would care to list out toppings/deli meat/etc. I'll throw it in a spoiler, but I don't really need ideas for this personally)

I just started the P90-X workout and I need to eat healthier. I also want to eat out less, and in order to do that need to learn how to cook a wider variety of foods.

Back when I was powerlifting (from age 16 to 24) I always ate cereal for breakfast, it's easy, always agrees with my stomach and it's not really lacking protein once you factor in the milk (1g per fl oz). Carbs give you valuable energy to start your day. Then at night I limited my carbs severely.

Ace is right. You want to start the day off with a good base for food. As bland as it is, having the same calories of food at the start of the day will make the rest of it infinitely more bearable when it comes to managing your energy/fat/carb/whatever level.

Well for lunch, a sandwich with lean meat (like turkey) on wheat bread is really good. There is also double fiber/double protein bread out there which can help supplement areas of your diet that may be lacking. You can also avoid unneeded calories (cheese, mayo, oil, dressing, etc) if needed. Mustard has like no calories so that's a freebie if you like mustard lol. For dinner your best bet would be lean meat and veggies or a salad. I know that's not something you can whip up in 5 seconds but yeah.

What do you currently drink? If it's soft drinks, then dropping/limiting them is one of the best nutritional choices one could ever make. I've done it, and I've never regretted it.

Pesto pasta with grilled chicken and parmesan cheese. OHHHHHHH YEAH!!

I also like rice with cilantro and lemon juice as a side to meat and veggies.

Lastly, fish. Fish is so under appreciated in America. Its tasty and healthy.

ace, what are some good protein heavy snacks? I've been eating mad since i'm trying to gain some more weight at the gym. I've been eating stuff like pb&j sandwiches and cereal with fruit as snacks but I dunno.

Lean meats, milk, and nuts are good sources for protein. Just increase your servings of protein or add muscle milk.

Your average serving of protein should be about the size of your fist in meat. So eat more than that or double that serving size.

If you're building muscle, drink a protein shake with your workout. If you're not actually building muscle, then the shake will do very little.

I never used any kind of weird supplements, or even protein shakes the entire time I lifted weights. I basically had cereal in the morning for reasons I stated earlier in this thread, but also because it's loaded with vitamins. I basically just ate a good bit of chicken, fish, and turkey (not an insane amount but I had some form of lean meat with both lunch and dinner). Beef jerkey is high in protein and super low on calories but you gotta watch out for all the sodium in that. There are probably some good protein bars/shakes out there but I just don't 100% trust them lol. Also drpepper, nuts are a good source of protein but they are an even bigger source for fat (more than 2x). It might be healthy fat (omega-6) but it's still too much if you're trying to look like you're in shape imo. I basically tried to avoid fat when I was really into this shiz, cause the time would come where you had to go out to eat or bend the rules at some point, so I mean you'd get some fat in your diet one way or another.

I used to lift with some guys that took all kinds of supplements, they would even try to get in 1g of protein per pound of body weight! I never tried to get more than 100g of protein in a day when I weighed 180-190, even when I was lifting for straight power. And I can say with confidence that supplements are unnecessary, I went from a max bench press of 160 when I was 16 to 340 when I was 23 or 24. I just tried to get in some protein with every meal and the amount of food I ate was proportional to how much I figured I'd burn off (how active I planned to be that day).

Linguini, if you drink a 23 gram (or something close to that) protein shake immediately after you work out, you'll be good. But you gotta eat the right muscle building foods too (which were already mentioned here).

if you dont count cooking as preparation

find some boneless chicken breast, split em in half, stuff them with cheese, wrap in bacon, cook in oven and serve over pasta

delicious, doesnt take very long

I've been drinking a whey protein shake with each of my workouts, and lean meats and such aren't really what I was wondering about as my meals are usually pretty balanced in terms of that. Ace thanks for the input man, it gave me some ideas. I'm not too worried about fat intake though, because my metabolism is so fast and it'd be pretty difficult for me to get out of shape even if I wanted to lol

Being in college without a car in a dorm def makes it harder to get the foods I want so I have to rely on my meal plan(@ss) and the local food places.

Benching 340 is pretty beast dude lol, my max is 180 and I rep 160

Hey guys! Do you need to experience DOMS for muscle growth? Or does that mean you got enough protein if you don't experience DOMS after a workout?

Fish tacos may sound weird at first, but I learned from someone that their appeal comes from their budget-friendly costs. At first you may need to defrost/cook a lot of tilapia(or whatever you prefer) filets. But once you have those stored in the fridge, you can break some up and use 'em in hard/soft taco shells with cheese and tomatoes/lettuce!
p.s., Eggs = most complete food you can eat.

I hit several plateaus over the years, finally talked to some UNC football players (one of them had the campus all time squat record, guy did 730 weighing 230 lol), and they told me if I wanted to get my max up I should start doing sets of 3. It worked pretty good because as you gradually increased the weight, you wouldn't be burned out by the time you got close to your max (more energy gets used on heavier lifts, instead of doing 2-3 sets of 10 and already being kinda tired before you finish up). Like after I did my normal 135x10 set, I'd do like 225x5 or something just so I wouldn't be doubling the weight after one set. Then I'd do 275 three times even though I could do it like 8 if I wanted to, but that allowed me to get sets of 3 in with 295, 305, and on a good day 315 (then I'd pyramid back down doing sets of 5-7 to sorta burn out). I never got really big, just stronger and defined, which was cool. Always getting underestimated lol. I'd have like 295 on the rack and ppl would walk by and say "are you sure you know what you're doing?" ... "I got it." lmao. No spotter either unless I was going above 300, and I wouldn't let them touch the bar. Dude I think I've just talked myself into lifting weights again. Thanks Omni haha

Fish tacos are daaaaaank!! It sucks there are a lot of people out there that hate fish, some types of fish are among the healthiest sources of protein. I was lucky, I grew up in a small village on the beach in NC and my dad was a commercial fisherman for over 30 years. I always had the freshest fish and got really good at preparing it. I can't order seafood if I can't see the ocean lol.
