BIG NEWS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Shigesato Itoi came out himself and said he is working hard on a Mother project. It is unknown exactly what it is all about.all we know is the project is underway.

he said this on his twitter (Translated by Tomato and earthbound Central)

"Since it’s now okay to blurt this out, here goes: the “MOTHER republication” thing I mentioned briefly before is making progress.

It’s not “(MOTHER) 4″, though! This has to do with making “MOTHER” playable. I can’t give out any details just yet, but I do at least need to say that it isn’t 4."

Not really excited for this given Nintendo's poor treatment of the franchise probably means the West will get nothing. Here's to hoping I'm wrong, though.

It is really possible that it will be released (whatever it is) in the west, Itoi now recognizes more than ever the western audience, partly because of the people of starmen.net

Itoi recently tweeted: "All you people who play MOTHER, thank you. I really appreciate it. People of Starmen.Net too… thank you very much. I hear all sorts of enjoyable rumors). SENTIMENTAL"

Sorry for being lazy and not bothering reading that link, but is it basically a MOTHER 1 remake? If it is then it sounds amazing because I find the game almost unplayable with the very old mechanics and huge grinding that makes me unable to really enjoy it like the rest of the series.

I completely disagree with your assessment of Mother 1.

It was a very charming game. ESPECIALLY it's version of magicant, which is my all time favorite

The only thing I found tedious was the area I got lost. Couldn't for the life of me figure out where to go

IF you played Mother 1, you know the area I'm talking about.

It doesn't exactly say anything about Mother 1, he refers Mother as the whole series. But I get what you mean, sometimes people say it's "unplayable" because most of the people that play it have in mind Earthbound/Mother 3. I wouldn't be surprised if it's a remake of the first game. It isn't that hard really, just remember it's a NES game.

Well, to be honest it could be any area, there are a lot of hard parts in the game: the cemetery, Rosemary Mansion, Duncan's Factory, the swamp, the Yucca desert, Mt. Itoi/Holy Loly Mt.

I tried looking up the specific area, but it's been MANY years since I played the game. At least 10 years.

In the past I read a lot about other people getting lost there in the past though. It was an annoying area.

Meh, I do remember some of those areas though.

No really, Mother 1 is a bad game. Obviously this is because it's very old, but I think it needs a remake in order to allow more people to experience it. I've played it for like 3 hours and couldn't really get anywhere because I didn't feel like grinding for 5 hours to kill a common bat.

I'm hoping it's a Mother 3DS trilogy. I'd be happy with anything though as long as it comes to the west.

You're forgetting that Mother 1 was on the NES, meaning that it is automatically free from all judgement for some reason.

Honestly, my only real experience with Earthbound was when I played through it in a programming class on an emulator my Sophomore year in high school. I know that Mother 3 is supposedly awesome as hell but I Just haven't gotten around to checking out the fan translation.

Well it can't be a trilogy.earthbound still has the copyright issue..…I would think it would be localization of mother 3.i doubt reggie fils aime would allow that.....shigasato itoi thanked those at statement.net, so I'm not sure

There's so much wrong in this post. :ohwell:

Edit: I guess I'll clarify to make myself look less mean. People blow the copyright thing out of proportion, there isn't much, iirc. So all they need to do is like alter a song and change some names. Mother 3 wasn't localized because it came out late. The DS was already out for a couple years. As for Reggie, it's dumb when people keep bringing up his name when they want to blame someone. He isn't someone who gets to call all the shots. Plus there have been hints about Mother/Earthbound related stuff coming here.

from http://earthboundcentral.com/2013/01/itoi-mentions-mother-revival-again/

Just a minute ago, Itoi posted another Tweet, which translates to:

"Concerning the MOTHER revival… I haven’t forgotten about it, of course. Don’t worry, it’s making progress."

Thanks to KingDarian for alerting me!

UPDATE! He’s still talking!

"I’ve actually been wanting to play MOTHER too. Running into Belch, taking in the Runaway Five’s shows, getting sick in Moonside, visiting Tenda Village, enjoying the resort life in Summers. And, at the very end… that. I want to spend time doing all that."

Another update! This time he replies to @m0ther3:

@m0ther3 said:

"Please hurry and make a new game! I’m (earnestly) looking forward to one!!!!!"

And Itoi replied with:

"I’m really sorry, but it’s not going to happen. Maybe someone will make it someday."

Another update – I forgot to mention that Itoi retweeted an English tweet directed at him:

"You have the full support of Western fans for MOTHER, Itoi-San."

Itoi retweeted this and replied in English with, “Thanks!“

Actually mother 3 wasn't released in America from what I've heard because reggie fils-aime didn't think it would be profitable. He seems to not care about the series or wanting it to be released. Itoi is our last hope for this series. He misses the mother series. I think because of his tweets, it will be an altered earthbound.

If it wasn't clear that this Mother "Republication" is going to be released outside of Japan:

Yoshinaga: Foreigners are really straightforward, so I feel like I want to ask a foreigner―for motivation when I’m writing. I love watching American dramas, but it makes me wonder when they go out to eat one day, and the next day they’re lovers.

Itoi: It’s really something. And when they’re mad, it’s written all over their faces.

Yoshinaga: It is.

Itoi: It’s easy for us to understand them, but it makes me feel like they’d have a hard time understanding us.

I met with an American recently―a woman in her late twenties. She’d grown up with an American version of an old game of mine, fell in love with Japan, and found a job out here. She’s since lost her job and had to go back to America, but we met before she left.

Just the fact that a child in America could get so engrossed in a game that someone like me made―it was a little mysterious to me. Then she told me how things were for her.

Not everyone blatantly reveals what they’re thinking, she said. Things always felt somewhat out of place, but one day she played that game and felt she had finally found a game for her. And now, fans of that game get together once a year for a convention.

She said there are a lot of people like that. Another thing that made me happy was when she said, “They’re growing in number.”

Also, she said that when she came to Japan, it was always comfortable. (laughs)

“They were actually all like me. ” (laughs) I was so happy when I heard that. She’s back in America now, but she said she’s going to find a job out there and save up some money so she can come back to Japan.

We talked about how there are more ways to do things than just being frank and open, saying everything on your mind, clashing with one another and just finding a compromise.

I asked what the biggest difference was with my game, and she replied, “The humor.” They’ve got humor of their own overseas, but my humor isn’t in other games. So I guess it’s true that the kinds of things that make us laugh or feel bashful seem to go hand-in-hand with what makes them laugh or feel bashfu

EarthBound coming to the Wii U?

The lights are on bright tonight for Nintendo’s Wii U Direct conference where they promise to announce new Wii U titles along with provide details on previously announced titles. As is usually the case with such conferences, hype is already building across the gaming community with speculation reaching boiling point. Following the hype and clues left behind by developers can be somewhat eye-opening.

One developer, Monolith Soft have been burning a quiet revolution by giving away hint after hint at a potential Wii U title and all signs point to Earthbound.

If you have been following Monolith Soft since their announcement of developing a new RPG for the Wii U, you will probably have noticed a number of hints that directly hint at a brand new Earthbound title for the Wii U. The first and most obvious allusion to a possible Earthbound is the artwork for the Monolith Wii U title.

On top of that Soraya Saga, game designer at Monolith Soft and wife of president of the company took to twitter with hints towards Earthbound Wii U being announced at tonight’s conference. Saga posted an interesting tweet which speaks of looking towards a shooting star and constellations. She also retweeted the news that the Nintendo Direct conference would take place tonight.

Perhaps the most interesting news is that of Shigesato Itoi the original producer and director of the Earthbound (Mother) franchise. He tweeted only a few days ago that fans should not forget about the ‘Resurrection of MOTHER’. This follows previous tweets where he confirmed that there will be another Earthbound title but he could not detail it any further.

I love the Mother series! My favorite part about the games is how dedicated the fans and Itoi are to them. Plus, I love how there's always something new and awesome about Mother being posted about on Earthbound Central. You'd think they would've run out of neat updates by now, but that's one of the things that makes the series so great.

I also have a Hobonichi Techo next to my laptop, and it's pretty cool to have. I can definitely see the similarities between the quotes Itoi picked out for the planner, and most of the Mother series' dialogue. Some of the planner's quotes are humorous, yes, but the way they're written is where I see the correlation. Anybody else have a techo?

So much win, and a great victory for the fans! Huzzah! I told my roommate that even though we didn't initially get a release here, through the power of Miiverse, we WILL have it. And guess who got the last laugh? Hah! I knew Miiverse would mean more connection to the fanbases for Nintendo, and I'm real glad I was right.

I can't wait for this winter! YES!

I wouldn't say Miiverse was what finally persuaded them, but it is true the Miiverse has helped out in the past (like 60Hz VC games for PAL territories).

Even though I finally have a copy of the cartridge, I still don't regret it at all. I'll get this (whenever I get a Wii U) for portability around the house. There's a huge sense of nostalgia playing it on the SNES though, and who knows, stuff could be removed so I can still enjoy the original if I want to.

Whether or not it was, I'm glad it played a part. They at least presented it as if it played a major role, using screenshots from it, etc. In any case, here's hoping they use the sales from this to see if a Mother 3 port is also justified. (PLEASE!)

Yeah. It was a good way to promote Miiverse at least to encourage people to have their voices heard too.

I hope Nintendo will look at Earthbound sales in the long run though. Not a lot of people have Wii Us, and as much as some people like Earthbound, it won't be a system seller to the average gamer.

Wow that's good news. Maybe I will buy it when Smash 4 gets released and I finally consider getting a WiiU just because it's an awesome game.

Nintendo, you do listen after all! A great victory for the Mother fanbase at last, the next step is a Mother 1 and 3 English release.

I'd given up on Mother 2 getting an international Virtual Console release long ago, and so like a lot of people resorted to emulation, and played and beat it on an emulator, but this is great news for me nonetheless. I beat Mother 2 for the first time a few weeks ago and I was blown away by the game, it was one of the most original, creative, clever, surprising and genius things I've ever played. The best thing is that now thousands of people who have yet to play the game will finally be able to experience the sheer brilliance of the game like I did recently. Maybe as a result Mother 2 and the series will finally get the recognition it deserves.

Glad to hear this because I've never played it and have absolutely no desire to get an emulator. Hope it is as good as the incredible amount of love and respect it tends to get from people and not exaggerated.

It's about time Nintendo finally release this game on the Virtual Console. The game was way overdue for an appearance.

You have no idea how happy this makes me to finally see this game come to the Virtual Console. It'll be worth every penny just for long we've waited. Most of all, Mother fans finally get a victory, which they haven't had in so long. Perhaps this is a sign that Nintendo is going to start treating the franchise better.

People always exaggerate the quality of classics.

That being said, Earthbound is still pretty good. It does a lot of things right and is certainly unlike anything else I've played. But it's not for everyone.

The thing is, they announced EB as a Wii title as well, but never released this.until we get an official date, I will remain skeptical. I have a crapload of 3ds games I want,so I'll wait until my birthday next march to get a Wii u.

I beat EB on a hombrew snes emulator with classic controller.( got homebrew just to play it on my T.V.)it was an awesome experience, although the game DID make me suicidal once or thrice ;) I played before leaving for school and All day after school.Good Timees....
