Basically they said you don't control Amiibo characters, and you can fight against them or use them as a partner. You can also equip them with items. Also, they level up the more you use them. Unlike CPU level 9's, they can reach up to level 50. They also learn while fighting against opponents and adapt to how opponent's play against them. Example: Opponent that shields a lot, the Amiibo will take that into account and use it to it's advantage.

Because, the main thing that affects Paper mario's chance is the fact that other characters need to get in before him but if it's 50-52, I think there will be one place left (again, it's tight but it's possible).
