I think Sakurai lost his mind! Then again, the stage is better than Game&Watch. It could be possible that a created character could be in the game. I'm just adding some facts, some fighting games have that option.

The Alphabetical part of the icon theory is the only part that can be disproven...

THe other part has not yet
I still have no clue what you're saying, I don't know the icon theory as I thought I did, I guess.

Even if it did stand for a Touch Gen. character, the only person I'd see in it is an Elite Beat Agent, and even then I would say they would get an icon from their game.

Maybe, or Dr. Lobe...

BTW I found a TG AT...possibly one

Even then, Dr. Lobe (which would be a horrible character IMO) I say would have his own icon.

TG, I haven't done any research or anything on but it looks like a seperate "company" in a way. It has a series of games using the DS's touch screen. Nintendo has a series of games using their consoles, so characters from Mario or Zelda have the Gamecube icon or the N64 icon? No.

He does fit the Touch Generation character requirements, and having his own icon is just an assumption...this could very well be his icon.

Maybe, we don't know that...

They did create a seperate icon...

...and no Touch Generation has has enough game singlely to be considered a franchise.

...We already have a potential AT

We just don't know how Sakurai thinks to know enough

Well honestly, the ends don't justify the means.

I have no idea what that phrase means but I hope I used it right.

We won't really know for certain, but if there is a TG character, then it'd be hella groovy to put in an Elite Beat Agent.

We ALREADY have a Touch! Generations character in Melee... Just only retroactively... Remember, as well as Nintendogs, Brain Age, Pictochat, Wii Sports, Wii Play, Cooking Navi, and Ouendan/Elite Beat Agents... It ALSO retroactively includes all of Nintendo's Puzzle games, like Tetris, Panel De Pon (Lip's Stick FTW!), and...

DR. MARIO!

Dr. Mario is also irrevocably connected to Brain Age with the spin-off game "Virus Buster" in Brain Age 2, which will be getting a port to the Wii alongside the classic puzzle game as "Dr. Mario & Virus Buster."

However, Melee was made before the DS...A long while before. ...I also believe Dr. Mario will not make it into Brawl

is the logo for touch generations.

plainy refers to the Nintendo DS in my opinion.

Thats why this symbol is ON THE ACTUAL DS ITSELF, the Touch Generations symbol wouldnt be on there....

Checktheir website if you dont believe me, thats their logo, not the one on the DS and the DOJO

Either way, they may not have used that symbol for ANY number of reasons...

...And we won't know until we receive another DS/TG character, AT, Stage, etc.

We already have a potential AT

Retroactively means that once it wasn't, but now it is. Either way, we haven't seen hide nor hair of Dr. Mario being an alternate costume for Mario when darn near everyone else has one, some more than others like Diddy as Dixie, or Fox ala Starwolf.

The Nintendog is already an AT, though. It was in the very first trailer of Brawl and I remember seeing it on the Dojo.

Now I really know why the game was delayed...

Sakurai just likes to **** with us all, and he can't get enough of it.

I really agree with points made about it not having a rep. The stage personifys the game. There really isn't a reason to include a protagonist (much less create one).

Now to play devil's advocate:

The icon is represents Nintendo HARDWARE as a whole, not just Pictochat. The inclusion of different music from the Wii and Brainage emphasize the unique hardware and features of Nintendo systems.

Brainage is a very stylus oreinted game, so it makes sense for the DS icon to represent the game. Granted, it might not make much sense for a characters like the Mii, but it does work for characters like Dr. Lobe or Dr. Kawishima.

The icon could also hint at the inclusion of R.O.B as a playable character. ROB is a piece of Nintendo hardware himself. If the DS icon does represents Nintendo hardware, then the icon would fit him. ROB also made an appearance on the DS in Mario Kart. ROB is already in the game, but we don't know the extent of his moveset yet. However, the picture of ROB on the Dojo shows that ROB can indeed duck and jump . Rob has movement possibilities. We've also fought Yoshis and Pokemon as enemies in Melee's Adventure mode and they all had complete movesets. What's stopping ROB?

ROB is seen helping the bad guys in SE, you can see they are kinda like servants. Nintendo has never really done a good job at making small-role characters playable in their games. By that I mean, if you see it in the game, it's playable. I wish they did do that though.. in Melee we could have had the Wire Frames, Giga Bowser, and Master/Crazy hand.

Miis are not that big of a stretch (a stretch regardless, but a smaller one)

Miyamoto said at the GDC that the mii channel began as a DS project, so they are in fact connected to that system.

They could include Prof. Hector into the game as playable since he's the one who made (Game Universe wise) ROB...and use ROB in his moveset...

But that's irrelivent as neither really have even been on DS...

I take that back, ROB has been in Mario Kart DS

Yeah, but Wario is also helping the Ancient Minister and he's playable. My point is that we don't know if he is a "small role" character yet. He could be a complete character that you fight many of like the Yoshi team and the Pokemon in melee.

Wait Wario is helping the Ancient Minister? Where did you come up with that?

As for the logo, guys, it's the official DS logo. It's there to represent DS hardware and I doubt there will be a DS character. More DS stages and assists maybe (stylus FTW!!!) but a character is highly unlikely. The stylus would be an AWESOME AT though! I just get all tingly from the thought of a HUGE STYLUS doing lots of neat stuff!

EDIT: Might I add that this logo is ON THE DS LITE itself and wherever it says Nintendo DS (I think mostly on the DS itself) the logo is in-between Nintendo and DS.

EDIT2: Just to prove what I said: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/4/4e/Nintendo_DS.svg
And: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/6/6a/NDSLblack_Closed.jpg.

Sakurai gave it a symbol because, well, what else was he supposed to call it?
He could've just given it the Smash symbol.

You know, this could hint that the EBA are in the game for all we know. Arguably, it can be anyone that is exclusive to the DS.

He probally made it more simple, since Pictochat is basicly a stage-maker/stage sharer where you draw a stage with your DS.

What I'm curious about is, can you make moving platforms and such? Breakable ones?

Maybe, and maybe there is a Pictochat, drawable character...But how would it know how to make it interact like the stage does?

It probally wont be a character maker. (THAT WOULD BE AWESOME, but it'd have to have some simple concept thing with the special moves...)

What I'm wondering is, can you make the stage move? Like, add things to the thing? Hazards?

Lots of possibilities with this update.

Tournament legal?

Oh my god I know who the character is.

The Legendary Stick Figure.

Or it could be Mr. Game and Watch's spot.
Naw, Game & Watch is icon 14....this is 21

Stop that.
Not every icon requires a character.

With the Animal Crossing theory you protected, that at least had some basis behind it.

With the four people you offered as a possibility in the first post (Miis, Dr. Lobe, Elite Beat Agents, Tetris) only two of them are likely (Dr. Lobe isn't since I've never heard of him, and Tetris isn't because that's just silly). Miis have pretty much been deconfirmed. Elite Beat Agents are pretty likely, since I've heard good things about the game (never played it myself though). However, I did a quick Wikipedia search, and they have what could potentially be their own Smash Bros. Icon: The pointed star on the game's logo.
True, Kirby's logo is a star, but the edges are rounded. This one has pointed edges, so it's different.

Overall, a DS Character is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard.

Jesus Christ... Please help me....

NO!!!!!!!! Come on, this just reveals that not all ****ing franchises have playable characters!!

I am willing to bet there will be NO DS CHARACTER and NO ANIMAL CROSSING playable characters at all.

You can quote me on that too.
