Down-tilted Fsmash when close to a horizontal blast zone

I haven't done serious testing yet, but I've started tilting my forward smash DOWNWARD on Jungle Japes.

Luigi has a problem getting sidescreen KOs as we all know. Up-tilted Fsmash has a slight angle to it but it's usually not enough on the taller stages. Out of all of Luigi's KO moves, a DOWN-tilted Fsmash has the most horizontal angle, except for Bair, I'm fairly certain
I've been able to get the KO at 90-95% or so from the center of the stage on Jungle Japes (and earlier near the edges), surely an impossible thing to do with an up-tilted Fsmash.

Plus, it has more range. :) Unfortunately you can't auto cancel it as quickly as the Uptilt Fsmash, but if we can start killing earlier on these stages it'll certainly help us when we're counterpicked

EDIT: did some testing on Luigi's mantion. Luigi and Mario on Luigi's Mansion, the Mario did not DI or try to recover in any way from a side KO. Fsmash while Mario is just to the left of the bottom-left pillar (barely touching)
DFsmash -- 80% (side)
Fsmash -- 86% (side)
UFsmash -- 86% (corner)

Then I dropped Mario straight down from the platform on Luigi's mansion and Fsmashed him. Results:
DFsmash -- 100% (side)
Fsmash -- 102% (side)
UFsmash -- 86% (top)

The lesson? DFsmashes are good near the edges only. Oh, and NEVER use an untilted Fsmash. Ever.

EDIT2: Jungle Japes shows MUCH more favor for the DFsmash.
I dropped Mario straight down from the revival platform on the base (where the window is). It's pretty much in the middle of the stage.
DFsmash -- 87% (side)
Fsmash -- 93% (side)
UFsmash -- 96% (side)

Then I set Mario so that he's on the far left side of the stage, in his unbalanced animation.
DFsmash -- 53% (side)
Fsmash -- 59% (side)
UFsmash -- 69% (side)

So it seems the general is that on most stages, use DFsmash near the edge of the stage only. But on Jungle Japes, use it everywhere when the opponent between the 80%-105% range

never tilted a fsmash anymore since my tap jump is off :[ But occasionally i get a dtilt fsmash once in a while.
Its actually a nice mindgame cuz alot of ppl tend to DI downwards if they expect a utilt fsmash. Well ftilt kills too on lighter chars =[

What does tap jump have anything to do with not tilting your F-smashes? I use tap jump off; the C-stick in conjunction with the analog stick suffices (for me) for tilting smashes...

EDIT:

And to respond to the actual topic: yeah, dF-smash seems useful enough - I shall use it more often now. :-D

I like your sig kig

:)

edit I mean avatar

To azomg: I'm not sure if it has more range than untilted, but it most certainly has more range than uptilted. I'll check tonight to see. Regardless, you should never use an untilted Fsmash, on any stage, in any situation. Tilt it up or down, usually up unless you're on jungle japes or near the edge of the stage.

Oh, just a little note, this was done in training mode, so the knockback multiplier was 1.0. In actual matches, the knockback multiplier should be 1.05 for a fresh move, and your opponent may use aerials for recovery or DI your attack. Good DI hurts UFsmash the most because it takes them straight to the corner on Jungle Japes.

I was the first person he used this on lol. And it works almost like magic on japes, luigi gets his goofy kills back!

I entirely disagree with you on the "never use fsmash" idea. At any % above 100 on most stages, regular fsmash will kill, and has the second most horizontal range (behind bair) of any of our kill moves. I say any time the situation presents itself, go for it. Honestly even if they're in range for a Utilt, I think you should go regular. If only to be in the habit of it at the right %s.

@ hippie. WTF are you smoking?

When I get the chance I'll test the range differences between the UFsmash, Fsmash, and DFsmash.

From personal experience though, I'm pretty sure that the DFsmash has a pretty good horizontal hitbox... at least it's much better than UFsmash.

Having tap jump off is the thing that helps me from doing UpBs and up tilted f-smashes because he doesn't jump right before them.

Luigi is so mysterious i swear lol. Changing the mere angle of his fsmash gives you a huge difference compared to like Mario's fsmash other than tranjectory =P.

Yes you can, you just set a shoulder button to jump. Even better if you get rid of the springs. Even better than that, 3/4 of a spring makes it like a button.

Also, as for range, dfsmash has range similar to ufsmash.

nFsmash adds a little range but I'm so used to having bad range that I'm mostly close enough for tilted.
