Do you need custom controls for mortar slide?

I've started to pick up snake recently because he is powerful and he doesn't die below 100%, like all my other characters. I know that you have to dash, cstick down, and up z to mortar slide. My "z" is default grab. I was wondering if I need to set it to attack in order to do this mortar slide thing. I always end up dash attacking or dash grabbing....

Sorry if this has been posted before. I haven't found anything on control settings and mortar sliding...

No u can leave it as grab, but u may want to turn tap jump off. With tap jump off u can dash with the analogue stick at an upward angle and just cstick-down -> z.

With Snake, turn tap-jump off. That's the closest thing to a requirement that you'll need.

I stick the C stick down and then up rather quickly. No need of special controls, and it works perfectly.

Hurray for Rusty! Bust seriously, there's a sticky that points out everything you'd ever want to know if you were a Snake player. It's right there, it calls itself a list of all the best/useful Snake threads, it's not really a self-appointed name. Read the stickies.

Also, nice to see you again. How's that university of yours going?

No special controls are needed for mortar sliding.

There are a few ways to do it. The easiest is c-stick down then up really fast. Only thing is that you won't charge it when you do it like that. If you wanna charge it there are two ways to do it, down c-stick to up-z, and c-stick down then c-stick up+z.

Yay! I can finally do it! I prefer the c-stick down and up-z since it allows you to charge it. I love mortar sliding across FD, much to the annoyance of my friends. Thanks Everyone!

Don't overuse it. You become predictable, and though the Snakedash is hard to punish, they will find a way, if you give them the chance.

C-stick...for mortar slide....? I can easily do it with tap jump off, and just do a dash attack and up smash on the joystick quickly. It's pretty easy once you get use to it. and you don't move your fingers as much.

c-stick down to initiate dash attack. I think its the best way since it allows you to mortar slide from a stand still. If I'm running, I use A + upA. I find mortar sliding very fun...

...You can A>Up+A from a standstill, too. Using the control stick and A for mortar slides allows you to leave the C-stick for specials, which help immensely in RAR and other stuff.

But that's just me. Really, though, control stick and A for Snake, easiest to do it with.

If you use control stick and A to initiate dash attack, you have to dash, then attack (or else you will shutter step fsmash, which is bad, when trying to mortar slide). Control stick plus c-stick down instantly initiates a dash attack, which allows you to mortar slide from a standstill.
